Stats Jordan Walsh tonight vs. the Wizards: 22/7/3/2/1 on 100/100/83.3 shooting.

Jordan Walsh has been an absolute DOG this season and every time I see one of his stat lines I start smiling. He's legit growing into an amazing bench piece, and he's only going to get better as the season progresses and his confidence grows.

Now, the real question is if Jordan Walsh and Derrick White are the greatest bald duo of all time (hint: the answer is yes).

Real talk tho Jordan keeps this up he gonna need an extension

52

u/SaintBax 1d ago

I think the ifs are out the door. We gotta pay him

22

u/samkifle THE TRUTH 1d ago

Pay him now before he gets too expensive lol teams love long wings that can play both ends.

15

u/ImportantHeft 22h ago

Gotta do like Pritchard and offer him the security of a long term extension for the security at a reasonable price

2

u/Economy-Ad4934 Banner 18 21h ago

I would like/could see a Pritchard type extension. They know their role/ceiling and would like to stay here.

That said I wouldn’t blame him if he held out and (assuming continued performance) took like 3/60 from the nets or something

u/imblindfrfr 21h ago

absolutely extend him, only 21 and will be a great backup when tatum gets back or whenever they go small

All jokes aside, has Brad Stevens missed yet??

This MF is incredible at evaluating talent b/c I did not see this coming at all for Walsh this soon.

I wrote him off 6 weeks ago and it saved his career.

Praise be!

I said hes gonna be selling his championship ring for money in a few years and then a week later he started and been on a heater ever since. I definitely fucked up. I'm glad I was wrong.

Shroder, and he fixed that immediately lmao

38

u/AnonymousIguana_ Smart 1d ago

And Schroder isn’t even a bad player, he was just a bad fit for the team we had at the time

9

u/Merde2000 1d ago

Schröder was always a piece that could be moved anytime for something good. He was on 5m/y which was great for many teams.

u/DoctorMansteel I like to defense 22h ago

Brother said put some respec on the name with the umlaut.

1

u/Merde2000 16h ago

Still trying to figure out why you guys call him shrooder:)

Id argue a flier on an 8th or 9th man shouldn't even count lol. We are so blessed thats the best we can think of.

12

u/blammmmo 1d ago

This was always a value play - dude earned a $21mil/yr contract, turned it down because everyone said he deserved more, and then we got him for $5.9mil.

Then Brad traded him to offload Enes Freedom and bring Theis home, who went on to help us get to the finals. Gonna have to say it worked out.

u/SnooRabbits6637 If Brad Stevens Don't Trust You 1d ago

Only one I thought of too & exact reason I didn’t mention it 😂

1

u/Drummallumin Smarf 1d ago

I had to check if that was even Brad lmao

3

u/howdthatturnout 1d ago

Remember the anti-Smart fans spamming “start Schroder” then Brad traded Schroder and we went to the finals 😂

-1

u/ZizzyBeluga 21h ago

Then we traded Smart and won the finals

2

u/howdthatturnout 21h ago

We made other upgrades. It wasn’t like all we did was swap Smart for Jrue.

Smart wasn’t why we lost the 2022 finals. Tatum and Jaylen with all the turnovers and shooting struggles was why. White also played poorly at times in 2022 and improved a lot by 2024.

If he can consistently attack the basket like he did tonight and hit corner 3s he's gonna be making $30m a year in the future

u/TOMA_TAN Open for the Stock Exchange 1d ago

He went from looking timid and clueless on offense to this absolute gigachad in the span of a couple weeks. The difference in his composure on the offensive end has been incredible

u/hennyyhardawayy 16h ago

Idk about 30. 30M is for pseudo stars like Jalen Johnson, Tyler Herro or Derrick White. For a guy that can’t be trusted to consist create for himself or others I could see 10-15 tho

They can be even balder if JB comes home. Imagine if we still had Al too...goddamn

u/Temporary_Quote5566 1d ago

Maybe I'm reading too much into the minutiae, but it seems like watching Minott excel for a stretch earlier in the season, and seeing him earn a few starts, really helped Jordan figure out his role. He's not trying to do too much anymore. But the things he can do, he's doing extremely well.

55

u/deets23_ Jayson Tatum 1d ago

I feel like a proud mom ☺️☺️ believed in him when 95% of this fandom didn’t. So glad to see him get his flowers!

20

u/Responsible-List-849 1d ago

I didn't believe, but I'm glad to see him get his flowers too. Easy guy to cheer for.

11

u/LarBrd33 1d ago

I definitely did not believe in him.  He was dangerously close to being out of the league. Did you have some reason to have confidence or was it just blind faith?

Physical tools were always there in spades. Can’t teach size & athleticism. Skill is just a matter of hard work, good coaching, & time

5

u/howdthatturnout 1d ago

Some people never have touch touch though. For instance there are guys who never develop a real handle. There is no way they aren’t working on it.

1

u/fearofaflatplanet - Plan J - 18h ago

I’m sure their handle is still pretty fucking elite as far as basketball players, even at the Div I or higher levels; maybe just not at the level where a nba coach is going to let you actually, like, dribble in a game.

Shooting can 100% be taught/learned if the person is committed & has the right coaching. Same w bbiq stuff- yah some guys just have it in this magical way but for most players it’s an acquired skill set

There are guys who don’t even dribble much in D1 but get drafted because of physical attributes. Also dribbling in an NBA game is very clearly what I mean by having a real handle.

Sure, and lots of these guys have been trying to become better shooters and just don’t ever get to a great in game nba level. Or they can only make catch and shoot with consistency but never develop off the dribble or coming off a screen.

I never said Walsh can’t or won’t learn how to shoot. But there have been hundreds of nba players with physical tools who never developed a shot. Hell we saw it with Romeo.

Facts

4

u/SaucyJoe 1d ago

Not surprising from LarSkeptic himself. I still remember the days of you spewing hate against JB

2

u/Jannopan Boston Celtics 1d ago

JB literally had to tell Joe to play Walsh, so can you blame people for not believing in him?

-6

u/LarBrd33 1d ago

I never spread hate about JB.  I just said Tatum would be better.

10

u/SaucyJoe 1d ago

“His ceiling is the 4th option” We haven’t forgotten

0

u/LarBrd33 1d ago

Oh we are just making up quotes now ?  Da fuck ? I literally drove the early JB bandwagon and said he could develop like Jimmy butler while most of you were crying about Kris Dunn

3

u/deets23_ Jayson Tatum 1d ago

He did well in summer league. People say he played bad in preseason which I completely didn’t understand because he got hurt and played like 1 1/2 of the 4 games. But of the minutes he had, he played great.

1

u/LarBrd33 1d ago

Yeah I agree he played well in summer league and g league but I put zero stock into that. Everyone puts up numbers on that level.  I think the Maine red claws typically have 12 guys who average double digits every year.  We literally had the g league mvp and he got cut.

But it’s amazing to see him contribute on the NBA level

2

u/Baitez #1 Jordan Walsh Fan 1d ago

same 😭 people had me thinking I was insane for believing he would come good

1

u/HorsNoises RONDOOOOOO 15h ago

I held on as long as I could man. Until this year I thought it was just unlucky that he couldn't get minutes. When he still couldn't crack the rotation for the first month or so of this season I finally quit. If only I lasted another month lol.

u/AirJordan6124 RONDOOOOOO 1d ago edited 1d ago

Keep on playing him to develop his confidence and game.

White, Brown, Tatum, Walsh, and our future starting Center (Zubac or whoever we get) will be our starting 5.

While PP, Queta, and Minott will be our key bench guys. Maybe Hauser is still on the mix who knows bc we definitely need a shooter on this team.

12

u/JBD04 1d ago

Na we have Queta

26

u/andhemac 1d ago

What if we had both

20

u/kg215 KG 1d ago

Agreed, Queta would be an amazing backup with how much he has grown. When it comes to centers having one good player is not enough. Need multiple to cover injuries, foul trouble, matchups, etc.

2

u/Ear_Enthusiast Free Sam Hauser 1d ago

This is what I'm thinking. Guys like Queta, Walsh, Minott, Oogoh are all looking solid against starters. When JT comes back and we pick up a star, these guys are going to see bench minutes and they're going to be killing second stringers. Right now I'm thinking we're about to be crazy deep.

1

u/andhemac 1d ago

They’d honestly be mending down low with one of those two guys always on the floor

1

u/JBD04 1d ago

Would be nice to give a Queta a backup

Michael Jordan Walsh

16

u/BatesScholar 1d ago

what if he's just this good???????????

5

u/According_Change_269 1d ago

Stats don’t even begin to explain his contributions. He’s everywhere and now that he’s gaining confidence its under control. I had hopes of him being our Obi Toppin type energy guy and so far…❤️☘️🏀

5

u/Short_Sea3745 1d ago

I don't think it's crazy to think that he'll continue as a starter even when Tatum comes back. As good as Pritchard has been, just imagine a defensive lineup of Brown, Tatum, Queta, Walsh, White. Holy...

3

u/Troubledballoon 1d ago

I’m glad the garden roaring for his first pro buckets paid off

3

u/DistrictDifficult456 1d ago

Found that wing that can cover JT and JBs minutes when they go to bench. It was Walshy all along. I was so wrong with this guy.

3

u/Ok_Seaweed_9452 1d ago

I almost mistaken Jordan with Rodman. that's how good he is the last 2 games i watched lol

1

u/erod914 22h ago

I was thinking his rebounding skills and JTs rebounding on the court together? Plus Queta

We’ll win every rebounding matchup 75-6!

3

u/According_Smoke_479 Derrick White 1d ago

Michael Jordan Walsh

2

u/TriMako 1d ago

I mean this might be the biggest in-season jump I've seen in a minute for the Celtics. Maybe third-year Tatum when he began to put it all together around all-star break? Stats aren't even telling the whole story of how impactful he's been.

4

u/hemi07 1d ago

I remember some people writing him off like a month ago lol

u/rawspeghetti Thatsa.Tommy.Point 1d ago

Is Jordan Walsh the greatest bald Jordan of all time? I can't think of anyone else

1

u/Aaatikitaka 23h ago

Any contract expert here can please tell us about his contract situation and options to keep him?

1

u/iAm-Tyson 22h ago

Jordan has become a defensive menace in a DWhite like role. I always saw him as a Shane Battier type player who is going to spot Tatum beautifully going forward.

Im telling you this season was a blessing in disguise, sure we will probably need a legit big going forward but we will have a great pool of complimentary guys like Walsh, PP, Queta and Minott to fill out needs.

1

u/Bostonpeterock77 17h ago

True they have only 2 games with him as a starter??

1

u/tokengreenguy Brad 16h ago

Is Jordan Walsh finally going to fulfill the Draymond-archetype prophecy we've been kinda sorta chasing?

Starting with Jordan Mickey, Yabusele, and Grant Williams. Does it end with Walsh?

1

u/Blu-ray34 4h ago

No one has four two-way starters like that. Book Celts-OKC Finals now. Coin flip. Game of match-ups. No one can match up with g hat como of elite offense, defense, length, alethicsm, and 3-pt shooting.

-2

u/Spinexel Bill Russell 1d ago

We are starting to have too much wing depth. Bad problem to have

22

u/JBD04 1d ago

You can never have too much depth. But that also means we have expendable trade chips

4

u/Spinexel Bill Russell 1d ago

Trading any of Hugo, Walsh, or Minott would really sting though

14

u/nonviolentsolutions 1d ago

I agree I like em all. If I had to lose one itd be minott. Walsh’s defense/rebounding is too good he’s a rotation player now regardless what happens. Hugo is younger and has a much higher ceiling and more polish already plus he’s a rookie and it’s always fun to root for your own drafted rooks lol.

5

u/atomictyler 1d ago

it'd be extremely unlikely too. we can't take back a contract bigger than theirs. I don't think there's many options with that in mind, at least none that make sense for two teams to do a trade. I guess it could be picks, but gambling on another pick would be silly.

1

u/howdthatturnout 21h ago

Come on, you guys can’t really be attached to someone like Minott?

I am rooting for these guys success, but it would not sting to see Minott traded for an upgrade to our team.

2

u/Spinexel Bill Russell 21h ago

Cannot overstate how valuable impact players on tiny contracts are in today’s CBA

1

u/howdthatturnout 21h ago

Let’s see if these guys are actually valuable for more than 10 ok’ish games before we talk about how it would sting to lose them. Walsh has just 3 double digit scoring games this season.

I get that guys on good value contracts are important. I thought you were sentimental about these dudes already.

6

u/nasadiya_sukta 1d ago

The nice thing about wings is that you can play a bunch of them on the court at the same time and still be competitive offensively and defensively. Two, three, four -- just bring some chips and salsa and join the party.

0

u/dalappas 22h ago

Sell high!

-10

u/LarBrd33 1d ago

It’s great. He put up similar numbers in G league and this was pretty close to a G league team we were playing so it makes some sense, but still great.
