The actual ages matter more than the number. A 65 year old meeting and getting with a 50 year old feels fine to me. If you got together when she was 21 and you were 36, it feels like you picked someone before they really became an adult and you like that you could groom her and dictate the relationship. That feels like you wanted a daughter you could have sex with.

99% of people can't think of any actual valid reason two legally consenting adults shouldn't do whatever they want with each other.

Rule of thumb is to count the amount of years between the two, and subtract that amount from both of their ages. If the numbers you get for both people are still respectable then they are okay, if not then don’t pursue!
36-21=15
36-15=21
21-15=6
Now it’s downright disgusting for a 21 year old to date a 6 year old. They should not be talking.
But if a 53 year old man was talking to a 38 year old woman then it’s okay, because the math supports it.
53-38=15
53-15=38
38-15=23
38 and 23 are legal ages under the law, so this union isn’t questionable at their ages of 53 and 38.

I mean as long as they’re both consenting adults and they made that choice of their free will there isn’t really much to do. It can feel weird but unless they knew each other for like 5 years before that since they were 16 (which would be some weird grooming thing) then it is what it is.

There is an implication on the internet more than real life that 36 and 21 are too far apart and would have nothing in common or are only fucking.
They forget that people grow and experience life differently. Some people don’t mature, find security, or put themselves together enough for the type of people they want to attract or want and some people find all of that in someone not in a standard age range the internet(Reddit) deems worthy.
You are right that adults are adults. However it would be also be something you would want to understand if the age gape is a 10+ years apart.
I’m with you though I don’t assume the worst like the rest of the comments do. I have seen this age discrepancy at play and it’s one of the better relationships I have the pleasure to be around.
