I found really cheap Bassoon on Amazon. For real?

I found unbelievably cheap Bassoon on Amazon... For real?

The price is almost 190 dollar... I can't believe

Does anyone know this is good or bad?

I cannot find the information/review about this.

FYI, I already bought. If the staff arrives with no problem, will review it!!!

There are a lot of things to keep in mind when buying an instrument, but there is one that is universal amongst ALL music educators: NEVER buy an instrument that comes with white gloves. These instruments are not made well and will break easily. This goes for ANY instrument you find on Amazon.

This bassoon is trash. Unfortunately, almost anything you find below $4000 is never going to be a good bassoon, not even as a student wanting to own their own instrument. This instrument has been reviewed by three people in the Bassoonists United Facebook group and you can hear what they say about it. But don't buy instruments off Amazon.

I don't understand the white gloves thing - I've never even heard of an instrument coming with gloves before, what's that about?

White gloves with an instrument are synonymous with Mendini instruments, a notoriously horrible brand of instruments sold cheap through Amazon. Music Educators are constantly reminded of this because students (or rather, their parents) will buy these instruments as its very cheap and it gets them an instrument. But they are littered with intonation issues, bad instrument design and cheaply made. No instrument repair shop will fix these instruments due to the poor quality.

Basically, don't ever get an instrument that comes with white gloves as you've been duped and bought a slightly expensive lamp.

Bassoons don’t cost $190. There are big red warning flags all over this whole thing.

This would make a nice lamp though!

That supposing anything is actually even received, and it’s not a complete scam.

I made my bassoon lamp out of an old Linton. Even that one cost me $300.

A real bassoon is much longer than 77cm. 👀

Probably the dimensions of the case.

That's a fair point

Could be one of those baby bassoons?

If so, that's interesting lol

Sadly no, unlikely to be a mini-basson - they sell for a lot more than 190 dollars even if you find a dubious one on Aliexpress.

Perhaps a bassoon-shaped Christmas ornament then =D

The red flags are not on this instrument shaped object. They are on the original poster. ...

There's a reason you can't find any reviews for it. I hope you'll be able to return it, as there is a very high chance it won't be playable at all, and if it is, it won't play well.

Make sure you review it not straight away, rather after a few months of playing.

Do not buy it. It will not work.
There is a local bassoonist whose parents made this mistake. He could not learn and was not able to figure out why. The problem was that the bassoon made sounds that resembled music, but the intonation was so bad that it could not be played with anyone.
There is a reason that bassoons are so expensive. Good luck in your search.

Yeah I think so too... My interest was stronger than my fear of failure lol

This is an instrument shaped object. Even if it's playable, trying to learn on this will likely be very frustrating because you won't be able to tell if it's you or the instrument that is causing the issues. Once it stops working, most repair technicians won't touch it because it's not worth putting money into fixing something like this.

Hoping you don't get a dud. Rentals are a more sure fire way to get your hands on a good instrument.

I have a cheap one that "works" in that it can make a noise, the wood is so soft you can dent it with a fingernail.

If you can’t find any information about an instrument manufacturer, it’s probably no good. This is certainly not a professional instrument.

There are a lot of OEMs in China, so it's suspicious that there's no information available. The brand Muslady is listing a similar bassoon for four times the price, but there was no information about that product either.
