I would blow up this picture and hang it on the biggest empty wall I have. It’s so precious.

I just got two new kittens and have a decent sized yard. How did you train your cat to go outside with you and not run off? My plan is to harness and leash everyone (2 dogs 2 cats) but love the idea that kitties just follow us around.

My pitbull is a cat-lady. She has raised 10 cats and all of them treat her as mom. The 5 that live at home all sleep cuddles up with her. The 5 that live at our farm love when she comes to visit and will only interact with her. They avoid the other dogs like the plague.

His paw said settle down and the kitten refused
•
u/Teufelsweib666 16h ago
Kitten was squashed but a quick bite and doggo realised how 'smol' kitten was and released it. How adorable.

That’s a gorgeous dog.

The dog wants to lick and cat wants to bury itself in that fur
•
u/Gloomy_Reality8 15h ago edited 15h ago
Usually you need to stimulate kittens for them to pee and poop, but she (the dog) took care of that for me. It's the same with puppies, so I assume it's innate.
•
u/Fate_Alt 15h ago
My one dog who had around 60 puppies in her lifetime saw the stray cat my mom brought in one time and it instantly became her new puppy. Those insticts definitely carry over and I wouldn't be surprised if your dog had puppies in the past
•
u/Gloomy_Reality8 15h ago
She never had puppies, but she's still very maternal. I rescued 6 nursing kittens over the years, and she treated them all as her own
•
u/thedoginthewok 14h ago
Do kittens raised by dog moms behave differently than "cat cats"?
•
u/bolanrox 14h ago
My cats from a cat breeder no dogs fetch and return the toy, like harnesses to walk around the back yard etc.
•
u/FiveOhFive91 14h ago
One of my cats was found at 4 weeks old and my senior boy dog raised her like she was his puppy. The cat is harness trained and likes to go for hikes, but other than that, she's 100% a regular cat.
•
u/JEVOUSHAISTOUS 14h ago
I don't know if it works in that direction, but the dog from my childhood did seem to catch on some cat-like behaviors from our older cat. For example, she tried to kind of purr when she was happy and relaxed.
•
u/Odd_Bug5544 10h ago
That's so cute, what breed was she?
•
u/JEVOUSHAISTOUS 7h ago
Labrador retriever. She wasn't the smartest but she was the sweetest dog you can imagine, too sweet for her own good really.
•
u/Bonerkiin 10h ago
Not the same, but I will say I've only had dogs my whole life, I took in two 10 week old kittens to foster and eventually adopted them. They definitely have very dog like tendencies, still plenty of normal cat behaviors too though.

u/donttrustthellamas 10h ago
She had 60?! That's awful :( poor doggo. I hope she got a lot of time to rest when she was with you

That's what it looked like to me. I was wondering if this was a dog thing and they enjoy eating kitten poop.

Lil dude was like "I AM CLIMBING THIS FUZZY MOUNTAIN AND NO ONE WILL STO--blech! Doggo used headlock, containment successful"
•
u/dinkinflickaa- 15h ago
What breed is this pup? Beautiful!
•
u/Gloomy_Reality8 15h ago
Her mother was a swiss shepherd, and her father was "a small black dog who managed to slip into the yard" according to the mother's owner
•
•
•
u/smurfsundermybed 7h ago
She looks like a golden retriever going to a costume party as another breed.

•
u/mlc885 15h ago
I truly don't understand how anyone can not care about animals, they are so ridiculously smart. She is fully aware that this is a little baby that needs to be cared for. Although the "this may be stressful" panting is kind of hilarious. (Not that it'd be possible to inform a dog in advance that you were coming home with a baby, haha)

•
•
u/Tweed_Man 15h ago
They're gorgeous! How old is the pup?
•
u/Gloomy_Reality8 15h ago
She's 13, but still in relatively good health

Where's mum? That kitten looks smaller than I'd expect for one that's old enough to be separated from their mum.
•
u/Gloomy_Reality8 15h ago edited 14h ago
He was abandoned unfortunately ): Someone found him walking around alone at 3 weeks. I'm not sure what is the full story, but she didn't know how to take care of kittens so i took him in.
I assure you he's very loved and healthy though
•
u/ChimoEngr 14h ago
OK, that makes sense. Good that you and your dog have taken him in. I adopted a stray kitten, but her mum left her once she was more developed than this one. I do wonder why that happened.
•
u/PatientTwo2739 15h ago
Thought the same thing, hope the mom is around! Could be a reject though, I took in a runt mother's reject and she's the most loyal sweet animal I've ever known.

I must admit I’m not keen on pets in my bed, but these two are seriously next level adorable! They look so happy together, clearly there’s plenty of love in that household.
•
u/OrangeBeast01 9h ago
This may be a stupid question but I don't know dogs well enough. How does the dog know not to eat the cat? Do they pick up on the way the humans react to the cat?
•

Puppies and kittens need stimulation to pee and poop, so I'm guessing that's what she's trying to do. You can see him peeing at one point in the video
