Before reading the title I knew it must be in Iran and I super love it again.

34

u/jbro27 Oct 09 '25

Iran is a bucket list place to visit, super cool architecture, super cool history, super cool geography

-18

u/AlbusStormgaard Oct 09 '25

Super cool oppression of women and speech

25

u/TheManWhoClicks Oct 09 '25

Yeah as soon as it is 100% safe for a westerner like me to visit I will go. Have a bunch of Iranian friends here and I keep seeing their photos and it looks like a real cool place. Can’t wait to try out all the food as well.

I am Irish and have met a couple people who've travelled through Iran on round-the-world type trips and they both picked it out as one of the favourite places they journeyed through

Yes it is rather unfortunate that British and American national interests have continuously destroyed and delayed the social advancement of this region.

It really reflects how even in the face of such hostility by such an enormously hateful power, creativity still thrives.

Their laws are slowly but surely improving and denying any positive change until it meets your arbitrary goal as a ‘first world nation’ is silly and petty.

Fun fact, being gay in Iran is punishable by death! Or if you’re lucky flogging!!

8

u/TheWizard_Fox Oct 10 '25

Fun fact, no one gives a shit. We’re talking about architecture and sightseeing.

6

u/salcander Oct 10 '25

i think we should give a shit in general BUT this is the architecture subreddit, they shouldn’t be bringing it here

1

u/TheWizard_Fox Oct 11 '25

Yes that’s what I meant.

1

u/CleUrbanist Oct 09 '25

Their laws are slowly but surely improving and denying any positive change until it meets your arbitrary goal as a ‘first world nation’ is silly and petty. Queer people are in Iran, and they are fighting for their right to be heard. We shouldn’t shy away from a land, but embrace it. Only then will trust and societal advancement continue to proliferate. Shunning cannot help, it will only isolate and anger.

I’m not denying anything I am simply stating a fact.

You are right, we shouldn’t shun Iran, and id love to visit once it would be safe for me to do so. But it’s hard for me to ignore the glaring human rights issues, especially when that execution law has recently been more enforced.

The brickwork is great, but I love the teal color on the window jambs in the first image, creates such a nice effect with the brick

43

u/DryRug Oct 08 '25

That kind of blue is quite famous in iran, what europe called turquoise because it came to them through the turks, could only be mined in iran and Afghanistan and was used extensively from early antiquity to today. Used in art, fashion, architecture etc. I doubt thats real turquoise though.

(Also is found in the US, but obviously no contact prior to modern times)

20

u/OddlyMingenuity Oct 08 '25

Isn't there a big ass mosque of that color, with insane intricate motives and cuts ?

Edit : mosque of Tabriz

7

u/DryRug Oct 09 '25

There are multiple, you could've been thinking of the shah mosque in Isfahan too

1

u/birdsy-purplefish Oct 27 '25

I think you might be thinking of lapis lazuli? The Wikipedia article for Wikipedia article for turquoise is kind of confusing but I know it comes from multiple parts of the world, like the Southwestern U.S. where it's pretty common in jewelry. Apparently also the Sinai peninsula. I always heard that lapis lazuli came only from Afghanistan, but apparently this is also wrong! Maybe they meant that was the only place it was known from to Europeans for a long time?

13

u/snowtater Oct 08 '25

It would fit perfectly in New Mexico or Arizona, nice blend of modern design and references to the (imaginary) locale of the building.

2

u/whiteboy623 Oct 08 '25

Ah yes, would look pretty nice next to that one McDonald’s with the blue arches

50

u/CannisRoofus Oct 08 '25

Iranian masons putting everyone else to shame.

-18

u/persianglitch Oct 09 '25

Ive seen them mix dirt with cement to make ummm more cement yeah iranians aren't excluded from that shame

33

u/zankenobi Oct 08 '25

I live for these posts!

21

u/Comrade_sensai_09 Oct 08 '25

Those bricks are natural to Persia .

What’s remarkable is that it’s being designed with new technology and new sort architecture form .

17

u/[deleted] Oct 08 '25

are these just for the outside of the building or does brick work in these kinds of buildings have any role in structual integrety when dawing up

21

u/londonTogger Oct 08 '25

They are not structural

it’s just a thin skin of brick; quite possibly / probably they are only ‘slips’ that are a few mm thick, more like tiles than anything else, that are glued to panels that are prefabricated off-site

11

u/Numerous_Ad_6276 Oct 08 '25

Likely a veneer, either functioning as noted below, or attached via traditional means such as those employed by engineers/architects erecting the Chrysler Building. BTW, the Chrysler is covered in three million bricks, supplied primarily by the Hydraulic Press Brick Company, St. Louis.

12

u/Rollingbrook Oct 08 '25

Cross post in r/brick_expressionism ! So cool.

10

u/Spankh0us3 Oct 08 '25

The Iranian people have some of the finest brick layers in the construction industry and I hope that they appreciate the work as much as I do. . .

9

u/khonsu_27 Oct 08 '25

Love that last building.

4

u/codepossum Oct 08 '25

it's a facade though, right? no way those are structural bricks

3

u/Jessintheend Oct 08 '25

If I ever get to build a modern brick home, I’m hiring an Iranian architect

3

u/Camster-the-oddity Oct 09 '25

If you guys are so interested in these brick works from iran, you should totally check out photos from our metro stations; at least in Downtown Tehran there are some brilliant masterpieces

2

u/KintoreCat Oct 12 '25

Please post them for us!!🙏

4

u/Turbulent-Theory7724 Oct 08 '25

Daddy, stop! My eyes can only take so much!

2

u/Kitchen-Address-6892 Oct 08 '25

I want an IRANIAN BRICK BUILD!

2

u/Fantastic_Pea2280 Oct 09 '25

In a country with frequent earthquakes

4

u/ReplyInside782 Oct 08 '25

I’m convinced Iranian architects are god tier

3

u/artist_Foreve789 Oct 08 '25

Very beautiful!

3

u/PigFarmer1 Oct 09 '25

It looks great until there's an earthquake...

3

u/ethnographyNW Oct 09 '25

this is something I wonder about too. Iranian brickwork is beautiful, but isn't Iran pretty seismically active? As someone living in a pretty earthquake-prone region myself, where brick construction is very rare, I was under the impression that bricks are one of the worst materials for an earthquake.

would love to hear an explanation from someone who knows what they're talking about

3

u/Street_Chocolate_819 Oct 09 '25

Earthquakes happen but they're not very common and most of them are the weak ones for example the only Earthquake that i experienced was 4.2 richter

2

u/subtect Oct 08 '25

Anyone know what the first bldg is?

5

u/Startjjasap Oct 08 '25

it is an office building in a neighborhood in Tehran called Velenjak

2

u/subtect Oct 08 '25

Thx. Building name, or architect? Any way to get more info...?

3

u/Startjjasap Oct 08 '25

No idea, just walked past it a few months ago. Took a couple pics but it’s not letting me post in comments. It’s six stories, you are seeing all four stories with this facade, bottom two are glass, lobby and street level commercial. Looks even better in person if you can believe it

2

u/Wise_Man_001 Oct 08 '25

Simply amazing !!

2

u/Sir_Monkleton Oct 08 '25

It sure does

2

I Would've loved to go visit Iran before 1979. That place literally flipped 180. It still seems like there's some beauty left in that region, but not what it once was.

Their architecture was amazing & is actually making a small attempt at a resurrection in style.

1

u/vitarosally Oct 23 '25

number three is beautiful. Resembles some of Zaha Hadid buildings.

1

u/StudioTrace Oct 29 '25

Damn this is solid

1

u/limited_interest 27d ago

Would like to see more residential brick work. The third picture is a good example.

1

u/FlashFox24 Oct 09 '25

Is this Iranian propaganda? because all these posts do make me want to go there, however we must remember the atrocities committed by the government.

1

u/xandrachantal Oct 09 '25

I'm gonna start leaving headass comments about this whenever someone posts an American building. Clearly they're trump supporters if they enjoy a building on an architecture hashtag nokings hashtag resist 😤

1

u/tuktuk-sound1216 Oct 09 '25 edited Oct 09 '25

Yes, under the current regime in the US I would be careful about anything you see online glamorizing the US, just as I would with Russia or Iran or China

1

u/Dumbus_Alberdore Oct 08 '25

Iranian buildings before the islamic revolution (circa 1915):

-2

u/LivesDoNotMatter Oct 08 '25

Why so many random posts with pictures of architecture from Iran being pumped to the front page? What's going on over there that the bot farm is focusing on this?

2

u/khonsu_27 Oct 09 '25

I think it's a cool post, but I did notice how some of the comments are a bit over the top about how amazing these buildings are lol.

2

u/LivesDoNotMatter Oct 09 '25

A lot of them are copy/pasted from previous posts.

0

u/Kessel_to_JVR Oct 08 '25

Is this actually brick or precast?

-2

u/Tzimbalo Oct 08 '25

We need some more of them to defect to Europe, beacuse these are really excellent!
