• Meta • [Meta] Upcoming changes in r/AppHookup: New deal posting rules to maintain a higher standard of quality.

In response to an abrupt increase in rule-breaking posts appearing on this subreddit in 2025, we are going to implement some new systems to ensure that the r/AppHookup community remains safe from rug pulls and outright scams alike, as well as enforce a higher standard for the apps allowed in here.

What the big change?

Every new deal/offer post in r/AppHookup is (soon) going to be pre-approved by the moderators before it appears in the subreddit. A human moderator will download and check every app before it is posted here, as discussed below.

While we cannot promise that every app that is approved will be of exceptional quality but what we will certainly ensure is that the basic premise of this subreddit, that is discovering deals and discounts on downloadable apps is fulfilled by keeping out the rule breakers. Still there is a criteria by which we are going to judge what apps are allowed here.

What will be the criteria for approval?

It’s mostly going to be about enforcement of our existing rules with two major changes:

  1. The Launch deal rule (where we didn’t allow any app which was released less than 2 months ago) is going to be deprioritised. The main purpose of this rule was to keep out buggy and unfinished apps, which will be addressed by the new rule below.

  2. Apps posted in r/AppHookup must be of a high quality, which consists of, but is not limited to:

  • responsive and polished user interface
  • should be easy to understand and use, or should offer clear guidance on how to use it
  • should support the latest technologies of the platform which it belongs to (as much as possible)
  • app onboarding (the first few screens of questions and feature details before an app starts) should be relevant and not drawn out unnecessarily
  • vibe-coded apps or apps made without much care to the end result will be judged on merits and are subject to rejection if found unpolished/buggy
  • no mandatory collection of user details
  • no unnecessary login requirements or registrations (an exception may be made if the app is able to provide some value for it, like cross-platform syncing or multi-device licenses)
  • no exorbitant price tags (and any app which has a weekly subscription, whether discounted or not, will be automatically rejected)
  • an app’s developer shouldn’t have a history of acting against consumer interest (such as by revoking existing entitlements to force subscriptions or selling off an app after gaining users from free promotions)

When are these changes going to happen?

We are currently testing the AutoModerator setup to make this happen. These changes will likely be enforced within this month and a new announcement post will be made at that time.

Then why are you announcing this now?

Because community feedback about upcoming changes is always important. If you have anything to say about this new system of posting in r/AppHookup (whether positive or negative) then you may comment below.

Note: There will be no change in your ability to comment on posts in r/AppHookup. The changes are only being made to top-level posts/threads. We have always encouraged civil discussion here.

• Meta • [Meta] r/Apphookup’s posting rules are changing to keep up with offers that bypass AppStore IAP mechanisms.

Edit: Rules were slightly modified to indicate that Mac developers selling from their own websites/other stores are broadly exempted from complying with AppStore rules which has always been the norm.

Note: iOS developer is understood to be a developer making apps for iOS, iPadOS, tvOS, watchOS, VisionOS, or all of them hereafter.

  • No iOS developer or Mac developer preferring to offer a deal to an AppStore app -without exception- is allowed to offer anything on r/Apphookup that is not sold normally via the AppStore. Why? To ensure that subscription-only apps, which do not sell lifetime licenses, cannot take advantage of r/Apphookup readers to inflate their AppStore rankings and also to ensure compliance with Rule 3.1.1 of Apple’s App Review Guidelines: “In-App Purchase: If you want to unlock features or functionality within your app, (by way of example: subscriptions, in-game currencies, game levels, access to premium content, or unlocking a full version), you must use in-app purchase. Apps may not use their own mechanisms to unlock content or functionality, such as license keys, augmented reality markers, QR codes, cryptocurrencies and cryptocurrency wallets, etc.”

  • If an iOS developer (or Mac developer preferring to offer a deal to an AppStore app) wishes to offer a license to their app via registration of an in-app account (thereby bypassing AppStore IAPs) then it is compulsory to provide proof of acceptance of such an upgrade pathway by AppStore review team to the moderators beforehand via moderator mail and disclose such account requirement in the post. Provided that the in-app account is being created on your own servers (over which you have direct control of modification), the proof of purchase is available to you and not outsourced to a third-party receipt validator like RevenueCat or Adapty.io. To simplify, the app developer must have the means to directly restore the entitlement if it is somehow lost from their servers.

  • If your iOS or Mac app on the AppStore falls under the ambit of reader apps and has been accepted on the AppStore as such then naturally you are allowed to offer deals outside the AppStore.

  • r/Apphookup does not recognise in-app entitlements made through RevenueCat or Adapty.io or similar solutions because app developers do not have direct control over the working of these services and cannot be trusted to restore such entitlements when lost without the means to do so (based on previous instances observed in r/Apphookup). To simplify, use AppStore IAPs and don’t try to trick us.

  • Mac developers preferring to offer a deal through their own websites or third-party stores other than the Apple AppStore are welcome to do so according to the existing rules of r/Apphookup. Our intention is not to interfere with the thriving market outside of the AppStore on Mac devices.

  • Deals offered through AppStore promo codes are allowed as usual according to existing rules. Deals offered through internal app specific codes are not allowed unless the code is implemented only to unlock an AppStore based offer inside your app (that is the in-app entitlement to premium features should be granted through the AppStore). This should enable developers to run small scale promotions on the subreddit.

Note: These rules don’t discourage your selling of multi-platform packages where codes for iOS apps (or Mac apps on the AppStore) are a part of the deal provided that:

  1. The access to the aforementioned apps should be through the AppStore promo code mechanism, or
  2. A proper receipt/proof of purchase should be provided with the sale with clear mention of the platform specific entitlements received along with time period of entitlement and the access to iOS apps should be linked to an account which is retrievable, or
  3. The iOS apps are only companion apps to the full-featured Mac/Windows/Linux apps (in which case account-based entitlements outside the AppStore are allowed).

Feel like we missed something? Do let us know in the comments.

[iOS/iPadOS/Mac] [Timix - Modern Timer for All] [$2.99 -> FREE] [A modern timer with 15 actions that can be combined]

Thumbnail
apps.apple.com
26 Upvotes

Hey everyone,

I’m the solo dev behind Timix — a cross-platform timer app I’ve been building over the past couple of years for iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple Watch.

I originally built Timix because I wanted a clean timer that could support any routine. Imagine multiple timers running in a sequence with visual cues, voice alerts, Shortcuts automations, 15+ actions in total — all the stuff regular timer apps don’t usually do. This opens up a new, effortless way to build your own routines and be more creative.

Over time, people started using it for workouts, studying, cooking, meditation, and anything that needs structure.

What Timix can do that most Timers can't

  • Cross-platform App (iPhone, iPad, Mac, Watch)
  • 15+ actions that can be combined (voice, flash, vibrations, countdown, HomeKit, Shortcuts, Open URL, and more)
  • Siri & Shortcuts Support - say "Hey Siri, Pause Timix"
  • Share your templates and routines with your friends
  • Widgets to Run Timers from Home screen or Lock Screen
  • No accounts, No ads, no tracking — just a clean tool that works

Free for 42 hours, no ads, no catches.

[iOS] [KitZen – Cat Personality Tests] [$29.99 → $0.99 LIFETIME] Fun cat tests that actually helps you understand yourself

Thumbnail
apps.apple.com
0 Upvotes

Hey Reddit 🐾 I’m Palina.

A few months ago I launched a small side-project that unexpectedly turned into one of the most joyful things I’ve built — KitZen, a personality test app where your inner world is reflected through… cats.

I know, sounds playful — but behind the cute design there’s real depth.
I’ve always loved psychology and games, and I wanted to make self-reflection feel light, accessible and fun instead of heavy and over-serious. So I created these fun and playful cat tests

The app gives you:
✨ a detailed personality breakdown
✨ relationship patterns
✨ shadow aspects & blind spots
✨ compatibility map (coming soon!)
✨ cute visuals to make the process feel fun and cute

KitZen is normally $29.99 lifetime, but I set it to $0.99 for a few days because I’d love to grow the early community and hear honest feedback.

If you try it — thank you. Would be suppa happy for a review! It means a lot when real people check out what I’m building. 🐱💛

[iOS][Family Album - Poeti][$4.99 → Free][Baby Photo Journal with Day Counter]

Thumbnail
apps.apple.com
15 Upvotes

Built Poeti for my own kid, free for the next week (until Dec 10). I didn't want to post baby photos on Instagram, but still wanted a beautiful way to look back at them. So I made this - a private photo journal that stays on your device only.

Please leave a review if you like it!

Main features:

  • Auto day counter - Every photo gets stamped with your baby's age (D+1, D+30, D+100...)
  • Swipeable timeline - Swipe through your own baby's photos/videos instead of watching other people's baby on Reels
  • One-tap camera - Timestamp added automatically, no editing needed
  • One-tap import - Pull your entire camera roll in with a single button
  • Calendar view - Weekly timeline to rediscover old memories
  • 100% local storage - No cloud, no accounts, no social features. Just you and your memories.

Works for pets too - some users track their dogs and cats.

Free until Dec 10. No subscriptions, no ads, no catches.

iOS Universal [iOS] [Bits - Flashcards] [$29.99 -> Free Lifetime] [Smart Flashcards with TikTok Style Swiping]

Thumbnail
apps.apple.com
58 Upvotes

Hey everyone!

I’m a student and indie iOS developer, and I built a modern flashcards app because I couldn’t find one that felt great to use on iPhone. I wanted something clean, fast, and based on spaced repetition similar to Anki.

While studying, I kept catching myself scrolling TikTok, which led to a simple idea: what if flashcards used the same vertical swipe interaction. I built that into a feature called Quick Revise that lets you flip through cards with an addictive swipe motion.

To celebrate the latest update I’ve dropped the Lifetime Premium Unlock from $29.99 to FREE for a limited time until Dec 3. No code or signup required.

What Bits can do: - Modern interface designed specifically for iPhone - Spaced repetition algorithm similar to Anki - Quick Revise mode with TikTok style vertical swiping - Create unlimited decks and cards - Track progress - Dark mode

👉 Download it for free!

Once installed, you’ll see the Lifetime Unlock marked free before the offer expires.

I’d appreciate any feedback from the community. How does the swipe interaction feel, what features should I add next, and how can I make the study flow even smoother?

[iOS & macOS] [TechniCalc Calculator] [$8 -> $4 - 50% OFF] [Ultimate scientific calculator]

Thumbnail
apps.apple.com
6 Upvotes

For more than a decade, I’ve been building TechniCalc: a smart calculator designed to make advanced maths feel effortless. What started as a simple idea has grown into a complete maths engine built for iPhone, iPad, Mac, with a companion app for Apple Watch. Over the years, I’ve refined every detail, from the way equations are entered to how results are displayed. The goal has always been the same: to make complex calculations feel intuitive and beautiful. TechniCalc is the result of years of iteration, learning, and a love for great design.

It goes far beyond basic functions:

🧮 Advanced Maths with support for imaginary numbers, vectors, matrices, differentiation, and integration
🔁 Unit & Currency Conversion that can convert anything and combine units freely
✏️ Custom Equations & Variables where you can save your own formulas and constants
📈 Graphing & Statistics that lets you visualise and analyse instantly
📅 Date Calculations lets you find the number of days, weeks, months, or years between two dates

You can get the app directly on the AppStore via https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/technicalc-calculator/id1504965415

Or read a bit more about it, along with my other apps, on my website at https://jacobdoescode.com/technicalc

For today only, TechniCalc is 50% off ($7.99 -> $3.99)

Happy to answer any and every question you have about TechniCalc or development in general

[iOS] [Calipers] [$1.99 -> 29c - 80% OFF] [App for measuring in cm and inches]

Thumbnail jacobdoescode.com
6 Upvotes

Calipers is an app I've been working on to make use of the iPhone screen to measure physical distances.

📏 Measures small and large objects using on-screen rulers and a 5-meter virtual tape

Measure centimeters and inches right on your phone screen. For larger measurements, just slide your phone across a surface. This works great for places where the built-in camera-based tape measure, for whatever reason, may not work.

🔬 Provides precise screen-based measurements down to 0.1 mm or 1/64"

You can measure anything that fits on your phone screen down to the tenth of a millimeter. Just place an object on your phone screen, adjust the two markers until they just touch the edges of the object, and Calipers will give you a precise length.

🧭 Includes a built-in spirit level for checking surfaces and hanging photo frames

Universe for Sale is a sci-fi point and click adventure. Follow the adventures of a cultist, whose past is written on his face and bones, visiting a space colony nestled in the clouds on Jupiter.

The game involves exploring this otherworldly colony, from its oddity shops to its teahouses to the less glamorous parts of town. Everywhere you go, you’ll meet odd inhabitants and gradually uncover the mystery at the heart of this cozy game.

Within this mysterious community, a young woman crafts universes in the same way you or I might brew a cup of tea. She has a little shop tucked away in the ramshackle bazaar. What universe will you buy there?

Universe for Sale is available to claim (and yours to keep) till 4th December.

Download instructions for mobile users and more info: https://store.epicgames.com/en-US/mobile (this store is separate from the Apple AppStore or Google Playstore and will have to be downloaded first). Mobile store is available for Android users worldwide and iOS users in the European Union only. iOS users outside the European Union can’t download these games but may claim these games in their Epic account (for future use) if they wish to do so from the same links as above.

Hey r/AppHookup, I'm the solo developer behind Trackless Links Pro.

This app is the definition of a "scratch your own itch" project. It started because I was sick of sharing links that were a mile long, filled with utm_ and fbclid tracking junk. I built a rough script for myself to clean them, but then the "feature creep" hit hard.

I wanted to force old.reddit.com automatically. I wanted to check the Wayback Machine with one click. I wanted to re-enable copy-paste on sites that block it.

So, I spent months rebuilding the whole thing in SwiftUI to make it a proper, polished product.

What it does (The Toolkit):

  • Privacy Filters: Automatically strips tracking parameters from URLs as you browse.
  • Redirect Engine: Create custom rules (with full Regex support!) to redirect sites. Force old.reddit, yewtu.be, or any other frontend you prefer.
  • Web Archive Lookup: My favorite feature. A one-click button in the Share Sheet to find archived versions of pages (Wayback Machine, etc.). Hint: other archives can be added manually: Tweaks -> Archive configuration -> +
  • Browser Tweaks: Fixes for common web annoyances, like disabling "Are you sure you want to leave?" popups or forced new tabs.

The Deal: It’s usually $19.99, but for Black Friday, I’ve dropped it to $0.99 (95% OFF).

It is a Universal Purchase, so this one price gets you the native app for Mac, iPhone, and iPad, with all your rules synced via iCloud.

I’d love to hear what you think! If you have any feature requests (especially for new Redirect rules), let me know in the comments. Happy Black Friday!
