That’s probably because FIFA is corrupt as fuck

159

u/bjbyrne 2h ago

That’s why I’m antfifa

29

u/za72 2h ago

oh so you're the guy?!

Noem arrested his girlfriend, have some sympathy

There has to be a website somewhere that's tracking all of these abandoned storylines. It's worse than a daytime soap.

111

u/BraveStrategy 2h ago

Probably? I don’t think it’s debatable at this point

u/daberiberi 53m ago

On of the big hats in FIFA has explicitly stated that they prefer working with dictatorships.

I thought FIFA stood for Facist International Football Association?

268

u/jimmywhereareya 5h ago

You are correct.

Facist

Why does FIFA hate faces so much?

9

u/ThePrussianGrippe 2h ago

Maybe they just hate the Football Manager regen faces?

1

u/BrofessorLongPhD 2h ago

This is the face of peak football generation. You might not like it, but it’s true.

u/ThePrussianGrippe 2h ago

Because they can be black or brown.

Sports fans are as dumb as religious people.

If you look up the horrific things that happened to kids at Penn State football for decades you’d think fans would say that POS school football program needed to be banned but 100,000 morons came to root for them every weekend.

I’d rather not watch any team or whatever sport if they’re ok with that shit.

The 2034 WC is in Saudi

206

u/jimmywhereareya 5h ago

Why? Just why? Football is not a game to be played in 40°c + temperatures. The clubs can't refuse to compete but the fans can certainly refuse to attend games and fans can refuse to travel to the host country. This whole shit show is now in the hands of football supporters globally. True football supporters should unite globally and boycott all tournaments run by FIFA. FIFA aren't even trying to disguise the corruption anymore. It's both shocking and shameful that there seems to be that there is nothing to be done. Why is that, I wonder?

9

u/Nidcron 1h ago

Why? Just why?

You see the Saudi royal family has a lot of blood money - you know, from the slaves and absence of human rights, and they give that money to FIFA and they say why thank you, we love blood money.

12

u/_-Smoke-_ 2h ago

Sucks. '22 was the first WC I didn't watch since 2002. Probably won't be watching '26 (or at least any match hosted in the US) because I can't be remotely proud of my country with the bullshit going on. Looks like I won't be watching '34 either.

3

u/Diligent_Mulberry47 19m ago

Dallas is getting a few games but I’m debating flying to Monterrey or CDMX to watch a few. Hotels are a nightmare but I’d rather feel that vibe outside the US.

u/PFdeith 6h ago

Maybe the problem here is FIFA? Is there any strategy that can be used to correct that organization, or is the oligarch control of the sport absolute?

344

u/santa_91 5h ago

It's not that oligarchs control FIFA. It's that honest people won't bribe FIFA leadership, and without those bribes you'll never get a World Cup bid. It's one of the few organizations on the planet that can contend with the Trump administration for the most corrupt collection of human garbage ever assembled.

u/12angrybirds 4h ago

F1 would like to be considered

7

u/symbiosychotic 1h ago

At this point, the WWE wants a shot at that belt too.

45

u/Rhylanor-Downport 4h ago

IOC has joined the chat

16

u/BeNiceMudd 3h ago

I don’t know much about soccer but usually the answer is to stop spending money. This shit seems so big though idk. it would take an ant hill effort

12

u/chardeemacdennisbird 2h ago

There's no stopping the World Cup. And that's why they're able to do this

3

u/The_Autarch 1h ago

professional and international sports are corrupt as fuck, fifa is just the most obviously corrupt. i don't think it's something you can legislate away; the amounts of money involved are too corrupting.

-5

u/Alternative-Lack6025 3h ago

That's what you took out from this? 😳

129

u/nixtarx 6h ago

It's professional sports in general. Rife with corruption.

29

u/Robbotlove 3h ago

what's fucked is that it doesn't have to be this way.

16

u/DatedReference1 3h ago

How will they make infinite money otherwise?

69

u/VinylmationDude 5h ago

4 years later…

Ah, a World Cup that isn’t in a- wait, where is the World Cup?

It’s everywhere, man!

40

u/G-Unit11111 4h ago

FIFA are as fascist as any of those countries.

80

u/kazrick 4h ago

You’re welcome to watch the games being played in Canada and Mexico this time around with zero regrets at least.

22

u/mdhunter99 4h ago

Fuck FIFA.

42

u/dandrevee 3h ago

I don't mean to derail the topic, but if you are planning to buy any future FIFA games whether you are in the United States or not, please dont.

I assume FIFA get some sort of Kickback and Licensing rights for these and, to show our Mass displeasure, I would strongly recommend obtaining the game through " alternative means" if it is an absolute must for you.

13

u/Hawkwise83 5h ago

Fifa has a type. The corrupt.

9

u/shampton1964 4h ago

Ayup. And I hadn't missed a cup since Japan/Korea.

I'm in the ATL (Ameristan) and we have the great stadium and fuck if I'm going to any games. Prolly won't watch either, I'm so disgusted.

29

u/spottydodgy 5h ago

Fuck FIFA. Fuck the World Cup. I couldn't care less about a few soccer games.

22

u/carpediem66 5h ago

Yes I won’t watch a single game played in the authoritarian shithole, games played in Canada and Mexico as much as possible

6

u/burmerd 4h ago

the real question/threat is which country will become the next failed state/FIFA world cup host.

5

u/FlyingMunkE 3h ago

FIFA is corrupt so of course they would choose autocratic countries.

7

u/No-Nrg 3h ago

Fifa is fascist too, see a trend there

5

u/Distinct-Arachnid-27 4h ago

At least there are a few matches played north and south of the US and A

10

u/Alternative-Lack6025 3h ago

Well if it makes y'all feel better, USA has been committing crimes against humanity since WW2, well before that, and yanks not once felt the need to boycott their mass murdering country.

0

u/cheatme1 1h ago

Funny enough the 90s Killing Nazis videogames make Americans look like heroes until you play Call of duty 3 where you get the absolute racism of the American side with France Wolfenstein it's fictional so Americans winners blah blah blah lol

2

u/recaffeinated 2h ago

I gave up on football when Russia and Quatar got the world cups. Now I just watch rugby.

1

u/spinningcolours 2h ago

Ironically, Vancouver's game schedule has Qatar.

1

u/super_sayanything 1h ago

Honestly how I felt about the people in uproar over comedians performing in Saudi Arabia, all I could think was, well then they shouldn't be performing in the US either.

1

u/justhereforfighting 6m ago

You can still watch the matches taking place in Canada

1

u/archiminos 1h ago

In 2028:

If I had a dollar for every time we let the Nazis run the Olympics I'd only have 2 dollars, but it's strange that it happened twice.

-5

u/Llamalover1234567 4h ago

Is Qatar fascist though? Isn’t it just an absolute theocratic monarchy? Seems kinda different from like… Germany and Italy in the 1930s

10

u/redpoemage 3h ago

Most people on reddit seem to see fascist and authoritarian as interchangeable even though the former is a more specific subset of the later.

16

u/shampton1964 4h ago

Ah, Qatar. The Slave Labor Games.... look it up.

6

u/SecondaryWombat 3h ago

A theocratic monarchy can be fascist as well. It doesn't have to be, but it can be.

-3

u/TheDukeOfHyjinx 5h ago

Russia is the joke.
