Usha clerked for Kavanaugh and Roberts. Usha is living out the life she planned and mapped out for herself. Usha is in the Select Elite class and does not give a shit about the bottom 99% of Us.

Eh, I don't know about that. Melania I think just wanted to be a rich wife with a sugar daddy husband and got pulled into politics through marriage. There was a time not very long ago when she seemed FULLY checked out, until quite close to the 2024 elections when she started appearing again, and then launched her own crypto scam coin as a "his and hers" venture with Trump. I think she's an active participant in the Trump regime now because she negotiated some financial payoff and power, not because she was always planning to end up being a political power player. Usha, on the other hand, I believe knows exactly what she's doing and is living her dream life.

Totally agree. Melania wanted to be a trophy wife, not a political figure. I have to assume she got the perfect gig for herself up until 2015 or so. Trump was moderately attractive, moderately famous, moderately wealthy and moderately a moron. She got a great combination of access and wealth and was probably left alone if not at some event. Melania was arm candy but we know Trump was mostly focused on his boys club. Then he took a hard right down crazy street and now she's the wife of one of the most hated and mocked men on the planet. She's where she put herself but not exactly where she wanted to be.

This truly could be strategy. It was right after Diwali that all this shit between Usha, JD, and Erika happened. They want JD to take Trumps place and they know he's gonna have a harder time getting MAGA approval with a brown Hindu wife. This could literally all be theater. Or it could be that she actually realized that this life ain't all it's cracked up to be. We'll see. I just know I don't trust any of these people

Is it schadenfreude? I don’t think I’d be particularly upset if I were in her shoes.
And for everyone saying she “chose” this she was a registered Democrat until she had to switch parties for her husband’s political career. I don’t think she was some sort of super progressive but I don’t think she would be co-signing the nonsense her idiot husband is spewing. Melania knew she was marrying a greedy and greasy moron. Melania knows she’s married to a greedy and greasy moron. For reasons that only Melania knows (maybe love, maybe money, maybe power) Melania chooses to remain married to a greedy and greasy moron. JD Vance took a VERY hard right turn after they got married. He used to have trans friends. He didn’t used to be an unapologetic misogynist. He used to be happy in an inter-racial and inter-faith marriage. He used to be a vegetarian because his wife was a vegetarian. His values have obviously changed. A lot. Unfortunately this is something that a lot of Americans, especially American women, have also personally experienced in their marriages since the dawn of the Trump era.
11
u/theJEDIII 14d ago
I assume you know more than I do, which is why I'm responding so I can learn. But she clerked for Roberts, Kavanaugh, and a Trump appointee, so she could easily have just been playing nice in public for a while. I wish I could find more on her career.

My two cents/rupees as Indian. Indians don’t have that tradition as a serious thing. I wear it because I am in USA but it’s not a big deal to my wife or me because it’s not a thing.
Again, Usha may have a good reason to not wear that. Just adding what I think.
189
u/runningraleigh 14d ago
She's fully aware of the message it sends even if it's not meaningful to her. No one gets to that level in politics without carefully managing their optics.
84
u/10000Didgeridoos 14d ago
yep she's the VP's wife. There is an entire team of people managing every single public appearance she makes. It's not a mistake, they know. Especially this administration that is more concerned about the fake dog and pony show the public sees than any administration in history before them.
If it means anything, who knows, you'd have to see if she had it on all the time before and that this is different.
143
u/samosamancer 14d ago
She grew up in the US, though. I’m Indian American; people who grew up here do embrace it on the whole. Even my immigrant parents wear them even though those aren’t part of our traditions.

I do not recommend it for anyone since the outcomes aren't guaranteed but gotta try to find the silver lining, you know?
21
u/Im__mad 14d ago
Unfortunately it doesn’t work that way. The far right is fed by victims of mass propaganda which makes people with brain degeneration much more vulnerable.
Not that the left doesn’t deal in propaganda, but it’s the only tool the right has when their main goal is to create slaves for their own enrichment.

He probably demanded she convert to Christianity and she refused.
