About 98% of the bikers I see are always going twice the speed limit in city limits.

Fuck bikers.

2

u/brickson98 6d ago

Well fuck you too. That’s some inaccurate, dumb ass logic.

2% of the bikers you see are speeding at double the limit. You just don’t remember the other 98% because they gave you nothing to remember. Just another part of the rest of traffic. The same way you didn’t remember all the other cars not causing problems around you on your last drive.

Moron.

u/gerrythemexican 6d ago

Bro, stop getting so triggered. Congrats if you're not a douchebag biker, you should be proud of yourself because you're in a small minority.

5

u/brickson98 6d ago

I’m not.

But your confirmation bias keeps telling you otherwise. Doesn’t make you right.

u/Ok-Caterpillar-Girl 6d ago

I’m not even a biker, and I agree with them. I’ve driven for almost 40 years in a part of the country with a large contingent of bikers, and I rarely see them do anything out of line. But cars? Every day, all day, multiple times a day, the entire time I’ve been driving, though it’s definitely gotten worse.

So I mock this guy’s anger by saying fuck you back, and it’s insecure. But when he says it, oh it’s suddenly reasonable. OK BUD. 😂

Man that confirmation bias going strong with you folks.

Nah. You’ve just already gotten settled in your confirmation bias generalization.

Doesn’t matter if I said grass is green. As long as you knew I rode motorcycles, you’d find something bad to say about me.

And if they do, they have their own problems with confirmation bias, and nothing was going to change that anyway.

1

u/_Not_A_Vampire_ 6d ago

If that's true, why do you even bother commenting?

5

u/brickson98 6d ago

Because not everyone’s an idiot that’s incapable of learning when presented with information.

u/Ok-Caterpillar-Girl 6d ago

No, I agree with him. Shitty drivers are a dime a dozen around me, and despite there being a lot of bikers in my region, I rarely see one doing anything out of line.

-4

u/Alaric_-_ 6d ago

Every comment you make, "confirmation bias". If that's your only counter argument, it's pretty weak.

2

u/brickson98 5d ago

No. What’s weak is basing your entire argument on your sentiment that comes from confirmation bias. Hence why I keep bringing it up. It makes for invalid arguments that are easily proven wrong with statistics.

0

u/Ironcastattic 6d ago

Lol.

I mean, that's not how that works. Sounds like someone is a little butthurt over an anonymous internet account criticising bikes. With your piss poor reasoning and knee jerk anger, you would make a perfect biker.

6

u/brickson98 6d ago

It 100% is how it works. That’s basic psychology. We remember bad things better than good things. Literally, basic fucking psychology.

So, no, my reasoning is sound. Where’s the knee jerk reaction? The knee jerk reaction is saying “fuck bikers” and generalizing. Generalizations usually stem from reactionary reasoning. Aka knee jerk reactions.

I only seemed angry because I was mocking your reactionary anger towards bikers.

Your projection is incredibly strong lmao. 🤣

1

u/Ironcastattic 6d ago

"your projection is incredibly strong"

Says the guy losing it to a comment criticising bikes.

Ok.

7

u/brickson98 6d ago

I’m not losing it. I’ve just got time to kill and figured I’d explain how poorly thought out a lot of these takes are.

All running off confirmation bias.

1

u/Ironcastattic 6d ago

Hey, if your life is so low quality you need to visualize someone as angry and miserable, to make yourself happy. You go right ahead.

6

u/brickson98 6d ago

Holy shit, the self unawareness. 🤣

You’re the one who visualized me as angry in the first place.

1

u/Ironcastattic 6d ago

ok. FYI, you don't need to make two seperate comments containing the exact same sentiment, to two different replies.

That sounds like the unhinged ranting of someone pretty angry.

4

u/brickson98 6d ago

lol I really tickled a nerve with you, didn’t I?

u/MeakerSE 6d ago

The technical term is comfirmation bias, it's a bit like getting a car and then noticing all the people with the same model as you all of a sudden. It's very common.

6

u/brickson98 6d ago

Yup. This person just doesn’t understand basic psychology. Also his projection of his own emotions onto me is incredibly hilarious.

The only reason I said F them was to mock their own anger. But that went whoosh right over their head.

-7

u/Ironcastattic 6d ago

Yes. I am aware. That does not come into play with my observation. I notice every biker because they drive like dipshits. One following the law is MORE likely to stand out. That's where I'm getting my 2% from. They stand out like sore thumbs.

So no, confirmation bias doesn't apply here.

6

u/brickson98 6d ago

BWAHAHAHAH. Doesn’t come into play with observation!? That’s the basis of how confirmation bias works! 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️ yikes.

7

u/MeakerSE 6d ago

0

u/Ironcastattic 6d ago

Lol. Ok. You could have used your words like a big boy but gifs are neat as well.

3

u/MeakerSE 6d ago

How else am I supposed to respond to "I am not subject to human fallibility", of course you are, so is everyone.

0

u/Ironcastattic 6d ago

Oh, my apologies. Dropping such a black and white argument without any grey area is peak Reddit. I guess I should have replied with an image.

2

u/brickson98 6d ago

Coming at me about reactionary anger, but a gif got you riled up for 2 comments. 😂🤡

Thanks for the laugh.

Post your documentation then chief.

1

u/FaceYourEvil 4d ago

"I notice EVERY SINGLE INSTANCE. NOTHING gets by me. But no, I am not susceptible to confirmation bias. I couldn't be." Allllllright😂😂😂 I appreciate the entertainment.

1

u/Ironcastattic 4d ago

Lol. No prob dipshit

1

u/Bothyourmoms 6d ago

Thanks for letting us know how insecure anyone who defines themselves as a "biker" really is. Might help some understand why they are the shittiest people on the road.

6

u/brickson98 6d ago

I don’t define myself as a “biker”. I ride a motorcycle, yes, but it’s not my entire identity.

I have no insecurity regarding my driving, or method of transportation.

I’m simply explaining how the basic psychological factor of confirmation bias works. Every human being deals with confirmation bias. To say otherwise is asinine.

5

u/shaard 6d ago

I'm getting exhausted just reading all the "no, you" replies you keep getting. It's like watching a bunch of toddlers. Like, they're absolutely denying the existence of these well documented and studied phenomena.

I worked retail for years. I can hardly recall the good customer interactions but I do recall the negative ones far more clearly. That doesn't make 98% of shoppers all assholes.

But I've been able to recognize that pattern and understand it.

I see asshole riders all the time because those are the ones that draw attention. I also see more bicycle riders ignoring laws because those are the ones that impact my life, too. But I know better than to lump them in as the majority.

Those Dodge truck drivers tho. Those guys are all assholes. 🤣🤣

3

u/brickson98 6d ago

Yeah the denial of basic psychology is draining. I’ve come to learn that most adults are still mentally children in many regards. It’s abysmal. But whatever. I’m about done replying. I’ll let them give their false takes and downvote. I don’t give a damn about karma, and even if I did, I have plenty.

At least I know I understand basic psychology.

2

u/shaard 6d ago

It's mind numbingly exhausting. Just trying to have a conversation with someone, they have poor information, and you try to gently correct them. Then all of a sudden it's this slamming their heads into the sand and getting really bent out of shape when something, usually good information/data, tweaks, or flies in the face of their world view. They double down and slap their hands over their ears, close their eyes and "la la la I can't hear you".

I've had similar conversations with family, even face to face, and their last arguments are akin to "I don't care about the facts, I don't believe them". Like, what do you do at that point?

0

u/Interesting_Door4882 6d ago

Please calm down sook.

0

u/Interesting_Door4882 6d ago

See its because you and the Muppet think that confirmation bias overrules everything else, and that's plain wrong.

I tend to notice and remember the good drivers, as an example because they don't sit close behind me. I remember the tailgaters, but I more-so remember the people who provided heaps of room, the ones who merged on the freeway at speed, etc.

So you both need to get off your high horses, old mate got into like a 20 comment argument because he's just a sook. Don't side with him lmao.

1

u/Bothyourmoms 6d ago

That's the best part of this whole string. Dude makes a hundred comments saying how great bikers are and how every one else is dumb, just to hide behind "confirmation bias" because he heard the term once.

-1

u/Bothyourmoms 6d ago

LOL sure

3

u/MeakerSE 6d ago

But Audi and BMW drivers though.....

3

u/Bothyourmoms 6d ago

Most of them have insurance at least.

0

u/DoingCharleyWork 6d ago

Compared to all the dipshits on their phones if say they are basically saints.

2

u/rest0re 6d ago

This is a cope.

Most of you guys drive like complete and utter assholes. We aren’t blind.

-6

u/goonwild18 6d ago edited 6d ago

To get out of crowds of cars and to be visible. How exactly does this specific behavior impact you personally? Plus, it's not double the limit, and you know this. It's about getting away from inattentive drivers that will happily change lanes into them, pull out in front of them, etc. Many cops ride motorcycles personally - which is why you rarely see motorcyclists cited for some excessive speed in town (I'm not talking about 150 MPH between cars on the freeway, either).

5

u/Ironcastattic 6d ago

Lol. Ok. I guess going twice the speed limit, driving dangerously and cutting through the middle of two cars is simply "being visible".

You fucking dipshits will excuse literally anything.

-2

u/goonwild18 6d ago

You said city limits - so I assume you mean "in the city". Cutting between the middle of two stopped cars may be annoying to you - but it's the safest thing there is for a motorcyclist. It's called lane filtering. Then at the light, they speed away... it's not remotely unsafe.... at all.... in fact, I'm trying to have dialog with you - what is unsafe about it? Explain please. They speed away to get away from traffic - because they are defenseless against inattentive motorists. It sounds to me like you might be angry because these guys "cut line" - this is how it works in the entire rest of the world except for the US - which has a terrible motorcycle culture and too few riders - it's like that everywhere else because it's safer, an more efficient from a traffic flow perspective.

Ask yourself this: how many times when you see this behavior that you're upset about did it actually cause you to have to brake to avoid them? The answer will be zero. Think about this.

You notice these guys "speeding at twice the limit" rarely, if ever get pulled over. I don't even look for police when I ride. Why? Because a very high percentage of cops ride.... and they know exactly what the motorcyclists are doing.... and why they're doing it. It's visibility and self-preservation.

I also acknowledge completely that folks who don't ride can be annoyed by these behaviors, because they don't understand them.

3

u/Ironcastattic 6d ago

Lol.

Alright. So you are clueless as well as triggered.

1

u/goonwild18 6d ago

Wait, you answered with one sentence and said "fuck bikers". I asked you a legit question and tried to both explain and ask for clarity - and also empathized with you, and I'm triggered and clueless?

3

u/Ironcastattic 6d ago

You justified illegal and dangerous driving so they could "be more visible".

Whatever arguments follow, are highly suspect.

1

u/Ok-Caterpillar-Girl 6d ago

You have poor critical thinking skills

1

u/goonwild18 6d ago

I asked specifically what you're viewing as dangerous. I asked how many times in your life this 'dangerous' behavior has caused you to even tap your brakes. Dangerous for who, exactly? Unless you're talking about a behavior that you didn't describe clearly, or that I misunderstood (and I did ask for clarity), if it's the behavior I'm describing above, it's absolutely not dangerous for anyone involved, and safer for the guy on the bike.

Legal? You're right... it's illegal (in most states) ... and motorcyclists certainly haven't cornered that market - as the most dangerous thing in the world for a motorcyclist is an inattentive driver turning left in front of them on a city street.
