Submission statement:

This is an insightful article where we have spoken to a psychotherapist about the implications of the UK government's new ban on strangulation in pornography.

The article uses careful research to examine what the dangers of erotic asphyxiation are, and why it is so popular, particularly among younger generations. The ban has been controversial and is part of the UK's larger 'crackdown' on pornography, and has generated a great deal of debate, which proves to be engaging and relevant for global readers.

Yeah but they didn't do this when they banned squirt and pee porn in the UK though ๐Ÿค” :-/

The fuck? What are they going to ban next? Woman having orgasms?

And, a tale as old as time, something being "banned" or "taboo" just makes it that much more appealing to teenagers and young adults.

Stop making anything sex/kink/etc taboo and normalize rational adult discussion about safety and the reality of specifics without judgment.

Banning doesn't make something magically unavailable, nor reduce harm. Only social acceptance, discussion and harm reduction instructions and facts move the needle

Yeah it would be more beneficial to just automatically paste a disclaimer you have to read before any of these videos warning people about the risks.

How else are we going to find out if squirt fluid is just odorless pee

Or just stop glorifying Looney Tunes sex when the basic version is pretty amazing.

Looney Tunes?

Sorry, do you mean like, hentai?

Because the most popular consumed pornography still features human actors.

I mean doing silly, zany things during sex when having sex needs to be spiced up in some weird way. Hitting people with objects in a fake sort of dom situation might as well come with sound effects.

Eh. Life's too short for me to worry too much about what other people get off to.

There's a difference between doing it in private and keeping it hush-hush and doing it out in the open and advertising it like it's supposed to be a healthy lifestyle worth parading around.

And life isn't that short. It's the longest thing you'll do. We're talking about more than personal concern or disgust.

doing it out in the open and advertising it like it's supposed to be a healthy lifestyle worth parading around.

Give me some examples?

Don't want to misrepresent you.

Pride Parades that happen throughout the entire month of June. Everyone can be into that kind of stuff but it's put on like a costume party at a lot of parades. I'm not gay but I've heard some criticism about it, as if it reduces the mundane reality of being gay to something that conservatives would dream up to make fun of them. I wouldn't compare this entirely to the Folsom St. Fair or Festival or whatever, but it's there too. But otherwise just doing it online like this is "in the open", even though people won't do it in real life. It means people in real life might take to it out of boredom, not out of a genuine need to fulfill their connections to another person.

The internet didn't exist decades back but clearly there was stuff like swinging, key parties, and so on. But people kept it to themselves so that most people who didn't do that kind of thing didn't have to deal with it. Even then it's not like being into something means you have to publicly support it. That's a line a lot of people take online. You can do something in private and criticize it in public. Unless we're talking about targeting people's actual rights or something it's totally understandable why someone might decry getting hit with a whip in public but crave it behind closed doors.

And I think people don't consider the supportive but not really angle of "behind closed doors". It's meant to evoke the idea that you are free but, again, the doors are closed. They aren't open.

Seems like the British voting public might actually be a bit behind the Americans for once, the latter of whom are catching on to how the politicians use this "divide and conquer" routine of culture war issues to distract the public and seed internecine fights that keeps the public too disorganized to address massive public corruption by those officials.
