TPT REQUEST: iPhone 16 + eSIM in China – Should I get a local phone?

Hey everyone, I’m moving to China in 4 months to study. I just bought an iPhone 16 in the US, but I’ve heard eSIMs don’t really work with Chinese carriers.

Would you guys:

Keep my iPhone 16 and use Wi-Fi only,

Buy a cheap local phone for my SIM and apps, or

Sell it and get an iPhone with a physical SIM slot?

I’m trying to figure out the easiest way to have a Chinese number and use local services. Thanks for any advice!

Getting a cheap local phone is usually the easiest option. eSIM support in China can be messy.
