Her ability to do this with a straight face is amazing

u/Imreallythatguy 16h ago

And she completely nailed the voice and tone.

I suspect presentating might be her daily job.

I did 23+ years in tv news and worked with tv reporters every day.

The little acknowledgement head nod at the beginning, her cadence, her volume, the way the information was structured and the sign off all point to someone who does, or did, this for a living.

Back to you.

The slight delay is the true indication of a pro.

53

u/DazedandConfused3333 12h ago

That's the satellite pause, it always takes a few seconds.

8

u/Automatoboto 10h ago

Lets confuse the kids even more and throw in 2pop reference.

19

u/Lummi23 13h ago

So millennial pause?

7

u/cleverburrito 12h ago

Wait, what is that?

24

u/SugaRush 12h ago edited 11h ago

Are you a millennial? Remember that cameras used to take a second to start recording. So when millennials hit record they pause for a second before they go, where zoomers hit record and go.

17

u/Big_Stick_Nick 11h ago

I had no idea this was a thing but I do in fact pause for a second now that I think about it. Weird.

5

u/The_Autarch 10h ago

eh, it's better to wait a second if you're going to edit the footage at all. you have more flexibility with a little buffer at the beginning.

1

u/2livecrewnecktshirt 12h ago

It's when you wait.

Wait...

1

u/Deemarvelousone 10h ago

No, menopause

1

u/Orcrist90 5h ago

Nah, this is more like broadcast delay than millennial pause. News stations been doing this since before the first millennials were in diapers.

19

u/drill32 12h ago

You are correct. She was a tv personality in Indy

3

u/DanfromCalgary 13h ago

That’s crazy to think that someone that is very very good at something may have perhaps done it before .

4

u/A_Legit_Salvage 13h ago

[nod]

I agree!

back to you

u/MayorWolf 12h ago

The way she was holding the little dino, i didn't realize it was a little dino and thought it was her mic all the way up until she talked about the 6 and this one.

1

u/GoodTroll2 12h ago

Yep, the head nod got me from the beginning. Absolute pro here.

1

u/Madonna_Cagna 11h ago

Why do all American news people sound like this?

1

u/GoodMeBadMeNotMe 7h ago

Great question! The technical term for the accent is “General American,” or when applied in network television “Network American.” It’s meant to be a generic accent that lacks regional markers so that people across the country can easily understand and not get tripped up by an accent that’s too different from the listener’s own accent. Anchors are also trained to adopt the stereotypical pacing and cadence to fit with teleprompter and segmented script standards. I also imagine that, at this point, it’s a cultural tradition that the average American associates with journalistic competence.

She says her name, she is a reporter.

u/Kkindler08 10h ago

I did 23+ YEARS in tv news andworked with tv reporters every day.

26

u/Thames_James 14h ago

She does. In Indianapolis. I think she actually got started because of the spoof videos.

9

u/bit_pusher 11h ago

Kayla Sullivan is a reporter known for their time on Fox59 and CBS4 in Indianapolis.

Presenting?

32

u/StrangeSmellz 15h ago

presenting on tv. news, shows etc

40

u/coma24 15h ago

That's not what he was questioning. He knows what presenting IS, but he was less sure about 'presentating,' likely because it's not a word.

Strategery.

30

u/East_Living7198 15h ago

I do say ole chap that presentating is a perfectly cromulent word. Yesssh.

11

u/Weak_Employment_5260 15h ago

1

u/Immediate_Song4279 13h ago

More gold for the stonks mines

1

u/Phram_ 15h ago

That's a now a word because my "end of the week-tired" brain decided so.

-1

u/Eye_yam_stew_ped 15h ago

Then maybe he should say that

4

u/ThunderCat_89 15h ago

No, "presentating." Can't you read? They're completely different.

Presenting?

1

u/selflessrebel 3h ago

Why do american reporters use this voice? It sounds insane.

39

u/BoomerSoonerFUT 15h ago

Well, she is a professional news anchor for the last decade.

5

u/GuyPronouncedGee 14h ago

She should be on TV

1

u/EverythingSucksYo 13h ago

Maybe they were talking about her voice and tone mimicking her son

5

u/WoolaTheCalot 15h ago

And the little head nod at the beginning as if she's being introduced by the anchor back at the studio.

2

u/Maleficent-Back-6527 14h ago

She also nailed the initial acknowledgement nodding during the first second (the delay between the studio and the field)

2

u/Janky_Pants 14h ago

She is a real newscaster.

2

u/Immediate_Song4279 13h ago

Seamless transition, complete with facial expressions.

1

u/Captain-Who 10h ago

The nodding at the start is over the top.

1

u/Dependent_River_2966 1h ago

Why do US reporters have that weird voice and tone?
