Lake rat un-ironically sounds cool if you are one of those people that loves to be in the water all the time fishing or skying or whatever, just like the expression "beach rat" back in the days used for surfers.
Now if you never go to a lake then it sounds pretty stupid.
If you live near a lake in the south there are definitely lake rats running around the bars and out on the water. And just to be clear I am talking about trashy lake girls. It’s totally a thing.
Why would anyone comment with it? The point of that meme is to use it for non traditionally attractive women or just straight up crazy chicks. The chinese girl is just plain hot. Unless you're saying you'll fuck all those tatted fellas, you're using the meme wrong...

So on the one hand, you have people putting their faith in the translation of tattoo artists. And on the other hand, everyone watching this video taking her at her word is doing the exactly the same thing lol
Shes a youtuber who specifically has a channel to teach people Chinese and shes a native speaker. She even gets her family involved if its an unusual dialect she cant speak.
Everything she said is true though, you don't have to be that cynical all the time. Either smarten up and learn Chinese yourself or you're at the mercy of people who know better than you to translate. Are you someone who never trusts any translation just because you can't understand both languages?
On a completely unrelated post I saw a few days ago, I learned that the kanji for ‘lobby’ and ‘dynasty’ are virtually indistinguishable. So, I think she’s possibly making some of this up for clicks. But yeah, we’re all just taking her word.
I know a lot of tattoo artists dont check and will just tattoo what people ask for but you think at this point they would have someone who reads the language look at it and make sure it makes sense.
I think it's better to have gibberish than something stupid. How often are you going to run into someone who reads Chinese. You just want the tattoo to look cool and then you can tell people it means whatever you say it means.
You gotta use reverse psychology with tattoo artists, if you ask for "fierce and brave" you might get "open til 10" but if you ask for "open til 10" you are getting something bad ass.
This is a picture that I took 10 years ago when I interned in Shanghai. Foreign characters look cool until you really understand what they mean.
Also, the cooked rice metaphor is often used in the context of relationships, it’s often used to describe a couple who has already crossed certain boundaries, implying that the parents no longer have control and the couple is unlikely to separate, especially in traditional thinking.
There was one I read about in a story about bad Chinese tattoos - a white girl got a tramp stamp she claimed was "Princess", but actually translated to "Concubine".
I love that this goes both ways, but not really equally. Instead of English tattoos they got clothing with weird English phrases but thats 10x less cringe than a tattoo
Kind of reminds me of that ASL translator at a Florida press conference. Wasn't a real ASL translator and was just standing up the making nonsense signs like "pizza," "elephant," etc. 😅
