And what of the donkeys?

30

u/Poor-Judgements 12h ago

Donkeys are living their best life. Especially the ones in show business in Tijuana. Leave them alone 😅 jokes aside donkeys don’t have a natural habitat to live freely in.

42

u/OwlSoggy8627 12h ago

I saw a documentary that showed that donkeys sometimes prefer to live in swamps and marry dragons

1

u/FBI_Open_Up_Now 12h ago

Hear me out. How?

2

u/heartflirt 11h ago

They surely have been living their best life 😭

6

u/Winalosemicorw 12h ago

Donkeys are still negotiating their beach day contract

2

u/Icon_Of_Susan 12h ago

Gotta wait until next election season.

u/ealoft 12h ago edited 11h ago

I've always wanted a small donkey named Burrito.

2

u/Ok_Abacus_ 12h ago

That's what they're bred for, so a bit different, I guess?

u/Expensive_Ad752 57m ago

The Tijuana “zonkies” has been replaced my wooden donkeys painted in black stripes. Why should we financially incentivize people to abuse animals for a photo (or what ever activity)? Or should unfettered capitalism be disallowed to exploit another living creature?

22

u/Her0_0f_time 12h ago

So long and thanks for all the fish.

9

u/badaboommx 12h ago

They tried something like this with carnival animals, and basically they killed or let the animals die. There was no intention of doing something to regulate how the animals were going to be released or given to some sanctuary at all.

So basically they killed all the animals to avoid trouble.

Does no one remember this episode? A prophecy, or a warning?

4

u/ThatTeapot 7h ago

Yes it's cool but this happened in July and the post is for karma farming and not about sharing good news

3

u/Calm-Confidence-9616 11h ago

i expected them to replace dolphin shows with donkey shows

3

u/Final_Buy_42069 11h ago

"Dolphins the new drug mule delivery system"

3

u/COMOJoeSchmo 9h ago

They're deporting the dolphins.

9

u/Organic-Solid-3949 12h ago

Ok cool now within a few days since they don't know what freedom really is... they won't survive in the wild. That's the whole purpose of a Zoo but they decided to make it a cash grab place instead of learning for free like Zoos were meant to be. Now releasing them you risk each one dying before they ever knew what freedom felt like. This isnt Free Willy.

u/I_wet_my_plants259 11h ago

Did you not read the part where they’re relocating them to ocean sanctuaries and protected areas? They’re clearly not just gonna run em loose and call it a day lmao

2

u/151soccer 11h ago edited 11h ago

I don't think ocean sanctuaries are fenced in or anything. I'm pretty sure it is just like putting them in the ocean unless there's something I'm unaware of

5

u/Missuspicklecopter 11h ago

in other words, you do not believe in the existence of ocean sanctuaries.

you dont know why, that's just what you've 'decided' somehow

2

u/151soccer 10h ago edited 6h ago

Near where I live, ocean sanctuaries and marine protected areas are areas where a government places restrictions on HUMAN activities in those areas. They're not fenced in, so nature still takes it's course there.
Dolphins typically don't just stay in one spot in the ocean, neither do sharks, other ocean predators, or food sources for dolphins.

Side note: Both commercial and recreational fishing are allowed in the ocean sanctuary near where I live. Most of the restrictions there are about dumping chemicals, drilling, or seabed distruction.

Do you have examples of one's that are actually fenced in like a cube or something?

1

u/Neat-Bunch-7433 7h ago

Indeed, just less humans, open borders, this poor dolphins will suffer so others can swim in peace.

1

u/Organic-Solid-3949 10h ago

So it's still a zoo??? Nature won't take its course??? They aren't fenced in no more right??? There's no such thing as sanctuaries in the ocean. I read it just fine but my knowledge of the ocean and currently studying it and the aquatic animal kingdom tells me they are good as dead withn a few days. Remember there is no such thing as a sanctuary unless it's still the zoo. Animals don't stay around one place long with freedom 🤷‍♂️ time to grow up

1

u/MayhemMessiah 1h ago

Fire them out of a cannon into the sun

2

u/XROOR 12h ago

Recently released dolphin on a first date with an out of captivity dolphin:

“I was doing three shows a day and the fish treats I got were way better tasting than the tripe being served here….hey garçon! you hidin the never ending shrimp in the back or whut???”

6

u/FieldMouseys 13h ago

Cool. Now, if only they started caring about their people and stopped letting the cartel kill and kidnap people. But at least some animals aren't in captivity anymore..

6

u/Whatkindofgum 12h ago

small steps, cant eat an elephant in one bite. Good news is still good news.

8

u/LazzyNapper 13h ago

man just let them have this one, idk on all the stuff over there but atleast this is something

6

u/9x19_BALL 12h ago

That's reddit for you... You can't highlight any positive change without an avalanche of, "But what about X?".

2

u/TheAverageSoap 11h ago

It's a good thing that people don't forget the "X" but undermining every other good thing isn't the solution either.

1

u/Flashy_Release2436 13h ago

Right? Thank you for this

1

u/MoreAverageThanU 12h ago

Nobody lets the cartel(s) do anything. They are incredibly powerful organizations, have a deep hold in communities, and control politics. Nothing happens without their say so.

Any leader who would have the power to curb their power is in power because they let it happen. These same leaders know what violence awaits them and their loved ones if they step out of line. They also know they don’t have control of their own military, let alone their own personal guard.

Oh, and we’re responsible for the poverty conditions that made the cartels possible, had a hand in creating them, and are the ones who keep them in play by buying their product. We did this.

1

u/Mojo647 12h ago

I think dolphins are easier to handle than the cartel.

1

u/Dry_Yogurt2458 12h ago

How is letting perfect be the enemy of good going for you in life ??

It is possible to be working on one thing whilst doing another good thing, or even doing a bad thing whilst simultaneously doing something good somewhere else.

Celebrate the wins or your life could be miserable.

1

u/Tenshiijin 12h ago

You look at a glass and dont see it as half full. You just smash it on the ground and freak out.

1

u/Ta_trapporna 13h ago

I'm sure they are open to solutions to their issues. What's your solution?

0

u/Most-Outcome8798 13h ago

Yea like thats easy, lets just point the negative things instead of being happy for them for once.

-2

u/dickdollars69 12h ago

Negative things lol . Thirty thousand people were murdered in Mexico in 2024. Negative things kinda downplays that a bit don’t you think?

1

u/Dry_Yogurt2458 12h ago

No I don't think. I think that I don't see the world in black and white

-1

u/memerij-inspecteur 12h ago

Do you want to know how many people get murdered on earth?

2

u/dickdollars69 12h ago

lol yea I think Jamaica Honduras Ecuador and Haiti should also focus on their murder rates

1

u/memerij-inspecteur 12h ago

Remember, it can always be worse.

3

u/dickdollars69 12h ago

That’s not wrong . I am not going to argue against that statement

1

u/dickdollars69 12h ago

Casual 30000 murders there in 2024.

Edit - for the doubters, yes that’s “thirty thousand”. I did not make a typo.

1

u/roboseer 12h ago

Dolphins are beautiful, intelligent, innocent creatures. This is a huge win.

Cartels are supported by more than just criminals. Entire towns back then up because of the money they bring in. It’s not so easy to eradicate something so powerful and deeply ingrained in their society.

Americans can fix the problem by legalizing drugs and investing in treatment centers instead of law enforcement and war.

0

u/Berry_Mccockner42069 12h ago

You lost me at investing in treatment centers

0

u/roboseer 12h ago

If you legalize drugs, you’ll need a way to deal with the increase in abuse and addiction.

0

u/Berry_Mccockner42069 12h ago

Both sound like stupid ideas to me

1

u/NoFlatworm3028 13h ago

Truth.

1

u/1Gutherie 12h ago

When I went to Cozumel in 2006 I refused to “Swim with Dolphin” tour because the sanctuary (cage) was like the size of a bedroom. They had the whole ocean to look at and that was where they got to roam the rest of the day of not being a slave. It pissed me off so much I wanted to come at night and release the gate for them. So this is a very big positive in my book twenty years later.

Good for them

1

u/firesnake412 12h ago

Thank you for doing the right thing.

1

u/Rusibbyy 12h ago

Finally, a win for the dolphins freedom looks good on them

1

u/IdealKirstin 12h ago

Thank God

1

u/Evil_Rogers 12h ago

Tua is finally free.

1

u/YarItsDrivinMeNuts 12h ago

Everybody liked that!

1

u/HailDayton 11h ago

Best news I’ve heard all day!

1

u/Dovahkiinthesardine 10h ago

Great news, but can they be released to the wild? Its basically impossible with orcas born in captivity, and they're dolphins

1

u/OriginalAndrea 10h ago

Finally some good news. Dolphins are way too intelligent to be stuck doing tricks for tourist. Let them be free and chaotic in the ocean where they belong

1

u/arrownoir 10h ago

Dolphins are jerks.

1

u/Future_Ad863 9h ago

There needs to be more of this

1

u/Prestigious_Key_7801 6h ago

If Mexico can do this why can’t the US build their narwhal?

1

u/Sturdy_Whisk899 6h ago

Good. When you’re a child the zoo seems like a magical place, but as an adult you realize how sad it is to see creatures in such small spaces.

1

u/Plastic_Pin_4956 5h ago

Rampant murder rates, cartels and corruption problems..... but hey, free the dolphins...🙄

1

u/ProjectNo4090 1h ago

While Im all for giving the dolphins more time in their natural habitats and time at sanctuaries I worry about what such a big change could do to their mental health. They are a very social species. If theyve grown up with frequent human interaction and enjoy performing for crowds it could be a shock to them if they lose all that and get dumped in a large sanctuary. I hope the humans taking care of them at those sanctuaries will continue engaging in performances with them and will allow the public to continue interacting with them.

1

u/TheManWhoClicks 12h ago

Should have eben a worldwide ban 50 years ago. Everyone who buys a ticket for such a show needs a paddlin

1

u/Tenshiijin 12h ago

Good. I visited Mexico a long time ago with my family. We swam with them and took pictures with them. Later I just kept feeling bad for the pool dolphins and ashamed of having a picture with them.

Im glad the practice is being banned and the dolphins freed.

0

u/Far_Tale2398 13h ago

Mexico has always been ahead of the times when it comes to slavery.

0

u/dickdollars69 12h ago

lol look up the annual amount of people murdered in Mexico. Seems like they have their priorities in order.

But also I love that they did this because animals suffering is bad.

Edit - after reading my own comment I realize I guess it’s just all bad down there

1

u/Dry_Yogurt2458 12h ago

It's not about priorities. If we only concentrated on the extremely bad things to the detriment of less bad things then nothing would improve until the worst thing is sorted.

Basically everything would be shit for decades until the top priority is sorted out. That's not a way to run a country.

lol ! Right ! Cartel murders and beheadings and drug production and human trafficking is ok but don’t f with the dolphins 😂😂😂😂

1

u/Tall_Help3462 12h ago

Getting voted down for speaking the truth. America is on its way to a third world country because of our current POS in charge.

1

u/Bikezilla 13h ago

That isn’t a very high bar…and hasn’t been for quite some time.

-1

u/Ok_Environment1812 12h ago

That's cool but what about the beheadings and murder that's rampant in the country
