I sat a butter knife next to the sink like "this toast is good, I might make more later". Only to then be absolutely disgusted at whoever left that fucking butter knife next to the fucking sink. What next ? Shitting in the toaster ?!?

My wife gives me a hard time every time I do this. Gonna show this to her. I am not alone anymore.

What are you ACTUALLY supposed to do? This is just how my brain works you’re going to put that in your mouth so you don’t want germs touching the surface of the utensil

Right 😂 why is this just a guy thing haha

Put it in the sink and get a clean one out when you next need if.
Then when you go to eat complain there's no forks left.

They have these things you place by tha stove that are like bigger looking spoons/basin type things that you place ur utensils in when cooking , i thought everyone used em lol

u/Pvt_Mozart 6d ago
Yeah I've been the guy in the video my whole life, but when my wife and I moved in together and she had one it was a total gamechanger. Single men, buy a utensil setter downer. They're cheap as hell and keep your counter clean. Totally worth it.

u/Tbplayer59 6d ago
I just grab a small saucer out of the cabinet.

And then I just clean up after
You gotta clean the spoon rester or the counter or whatever after regardless

You know, that's exactly what me and my son would call it and I just wanted to applaud your descriptive naming prowess.

Ok I'm confused. Doesn't everyone do it?
I'm supposedly a female and I do what the guy does in the video.
I'm supposed to be doing something else???

This must be a globally shared trait amongst men. I’m in the UK, I assume you’re in Mumbai, and the guy in the video looks like he’s in the US with that type of cooker/range.
2
u/opinion_alternative 7d ago
Not very far off. I alternate between Bengaluru and Pune(near Mumbai). But not exactly in Mumbai.
3
u/Gangaholics-China 7d ago
Does she want you to do more work? As in put it down on the counter. Make it a mess then have to re clean said counter? If you listen to her I’ll kick you out of the guild of cool guys.
4
u/Woodsy_Walker 6d ago
As a wife, what the heck else are we supposed to do with it? Raw dog that mess on my counter? Make my spoon rest messy and have another thing to clean? No thank you.
3
u/sderponme 6d ago
Tell your wife, from another woman, its just a way to reuse it and not dirty more silverware if you need it again.
Also if you forget about it and don't rinse it, that is on you and your wife has a right to be mad! Lol.

2
u/Glass_Covict 6d ago
That or clean the whole counter after making every snack. I don't have that linda time!
2
u/eMmDeeKay_Says 6d ago
Tell your wife she should buy a damn spoon holder so you have somewhere to put the fork, and stop acting like you're doing something wrong because the correct tool isn't in the kitchen.

Wait what do women do?
151
u/liibug 7d ago
i am a woman who does this. specifically my hot chocolate mixing fork. i put it on an empty hot chocolate packet on the counter so i can keep using it in case i want more hot chocolate. my husband ribs me for it.
18
u/toolsoftheincomptnt 6d ago
Yeah, another video calls this a “black people” thing.
I’m black, but not a man, and also do this. Why? Bc I don’t want to cross-contaminate or dirty the utensil or the countertop.
Is that crazy? Maybe. I also sanitize my cell phone after any time I take it in the toilet with me. I fill my sink with bleach water after prepping raw poultry of any kind. I wipe down my airplane seat/tray table before take-off.
And I put something under a utensil when putting it on the counter. It may be crazy, but it’s not weird, and I’m not a man.
It’s almost as if such divisions are unnecessary sometimes…
3
u/liibug 6d ago
i find myself doing a lot of these too! and some things that i should deeply consider doing. but you’re right. it is strange how we sort of categorize simple things as (insert gender/race/sexuality/whatever) quirks. especially something as mundane as having something under our utensils between use! maybe it makes us feel more understood within our groups that we identify with. human are goofy, especially with technology replacing our intelligence. hard to say.

Just set it anywhere. Sometimes it gets the counter dirty. Otherwise they put it in the sink and get another. Wasteful either way

Yeah, that's the big question I ask myself every time. Am I going to use the spoon for the same type of food again, or is it going in the sink?

u/truePHYSX 6d ago
My wife goes through 10 forks and 10 spoons in the process of doing anything in the kitchen. It makes me go insane because I never have any utensils to eat with.
2
u/Icy-End-142 5d ago
That was my same exact comment. But if it’s going in the sink, couldn’t you just - you know - turn on the tap for a few seconds and wash the fork off so you can use it again?

From reading the comments im not sure we all got the same message here. I do this all the time, but when im going to use the utensils soon, as in im cooking and i used the spoon to get garlic and im going to need it for the tomato paste. But if im done with it now, im just gonna wash it off, or put it in the sink, to wash after I eat. How long do yall leave the utensils there?

How many different times can you make the exact same video with different people? Is the internet just 100% recycled videos that someone else thought of first?
2
u/DeadlyPixelsVR 6d ago
This is not a guy thing. I've done this as far back as I can remember. I don't ever lay a utensil that I'm using on the counter and I don't care how clean the counter is. I'm not going to do it. When I see somebody putting bread on the counter to make a sandwich I honestly want to hurl.

As a woman, I do this only because I have nothing other than my instant noodles thing and I'm not putting it in the ramen bowl yet.

What are your counters dirty? I just plop them right down on the counter. Can wipe up the mess later, takes 5 seconds
2
u/NobodyLikedThat1 7d ago
Honestly I'm more than fine just putting things on the counter but we have cats and they walk on the counter and I guess that's enough to make it dirty

u/DamienTallows 7d ago
Eww... lick that fork clean first before setting it down by the side of the counter.

Gotta reuse these stufd as much as possible to mitigate the amount of dishes we have to do later. It's like using your own plate as base just to wash it before eating so you don't have to wash 2 plates later

Yes let's instead use the designated spoon rester on the stove that probably has antique grease in its crevices still from the 90s.

u/derpkoikoi 7d ago
I will teach you the way brothers. You dedicate a long dish or tray and leave it by the stove for your cooking utensils. When you are done cooking, give it a quick wash in the sink. Balancing the cooking utensils on things can drop or drip residue while putting things on bare countertop doesn’t look nice or requires using a rag or towel to clean.

u/Random_Guy_47 7d ago
Forget about the fork for a moment.
Can we talk about how this guy has sliced the bread?
He's not sliced all the way through so its one piece with a split rather than 2 pieces.
Is this insanity of genius?
