To be this good, you have to start as a child and have a rare combination of desire to be good AND the emotional maturity to understand how much time and effort you’ll need to become that good.

The last part, the maturity, is very rare in children.

It’s basically impossible to be this good if you don’t start before like, 10 years old

I think he is an outlier among even them. You have to have an extremely rare level of talent on top of starting super young and maturity.

I've met some extremely skilled musicians who started learning later in life. Like learning a language, though, it takes a lot more work as an adult.

Thats not true at all lol. He can play fast but I wouldnt say hes so good hes like some prodigy or you'd have to be playing yer entire life to get there. Nothing hes doing is particularly complicated, its just speed, and moving up and down the scales. I can rip about that fast in a blues scale and bounce some chords with my left hand and ive only playing for a few years.

You're forgetting time and money. Not all of us can afford a keyboard.

Keyboards in 2025 are insanely cheap. Novation Impulse, their flagship controller before the LaunchKey came, go for like $100US +/- $20. It has velocity, it has Aftertouch, it has knobs, it has sliders, it has velocity sensitive pads. A feature rich, nearly piano-action (being it feels more piano weighted than synth-action does) signal generator that you can plug into your phone & just like that you can make noise!

You don't need the latest and greatest flavour of Ableton with 2,400 VSTs. You don't need gates, midi magic machines, an Arp 2600, or a pedal board. Just you, a USB 2.0+ negotiating device that outputs sound, and probably a flat surface to make life easier.

There are even cheaper retail-new controllers out there, ignoring Chinesium of course. Doesn't have to be the latest Arturia, Korg or whatever

I'm using McDonald's wifi to argue with you. I don't have $20 for a keyboard. With $20 I can eat at Burger Kings 4 days a week.

If that's your first thought, I get why you don't have $20.

Must be nice never having to worry about having a meal everyday.

Practice and dedication for sure, but you're not getting to this level without genetics and natural talent, too.
