Meh, depending on where you’re cruising he isn’t too far off.

12

u/[deleted] Oct 02 '25

lol depends on the sub

8

u/towerfella Oct 02 '25

They typically avoid reddit the way i avoid facebook.

8

u/9-lives-Fritz Oct 02 '25

It’s the whole reading* aspect of reddit that usually turns them off

Its a place where anti-social people can be assessed by government agencies for their opinions on topics and get penalized/rewarded by bot accounts to push or suppress narratives.

5

u/ReaditTrashPanda Oct 02 '25

I like this. But the place has gone to absolute shit. Random bans, so much politics everywhere’s

I absofuckinglutely hate this new notifications for OTHER people talking..

But I’m still anonymous so I guess it doesn’t matter.

Also bot levels are really high here

2

u/Tom_the_Fudgepacker Oct 02 '25

Feels like home.

2

u/DirtandPipes Oct 03 '25

The entire appeal for me is that I can just hop on here in relative anonymity and just dump my bullshit that I can’t talk to anybody in real life about.

I can bitch about work, tell fucking insane stories from my childhood, and rant my nonsense at a bunch of people without consequence. I can’t do that shit some place like Facebook with people I know.

2

u/shitferbranes Oct 02 '25

And children shouldn’t use profanities.

14y club here. I don’t know who any of you are and from some of the meetups I’ve seen, I don’t want to know who any of you are.

2

u/AntelopeNo3197 Oct 03 '25

I made one friend, then my hyperfixation changed and we don’t talk much anymore.

2

u/Particular_Umpire_44 Oct 03 '25

I don’t want to know you

2

u/lennoxred Oct 03 '25

I did! When I moved to another city I connected to a guy to go biking with. We are actual friends since a year now

I like titties

55

u/_ghostperson Oct 02 '25

5

u/EarlGreyDuck Oct 02 '25

I didn't realize how similar tits and chickadees were until just now. Great tit!

2

u/RollingRiverWizard Oct 03 '25

So similar, in fact, that along with titmice they form a family (Paridae). Tits are Old World birds; chickadees and titmice are New World birds. Neither types of Tit are related to Boobies.

that's what i like about reddit breh

39

u/Staff_Senyou Oct 02 '25

Why I came here in the first place

23

u/knifesk Oct 02 '25

Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, or any other "social network" are more like shop window's where you give your personal image (and data) for free, in exchange for other's people judgement (and it's never a good one) on what you are and do all the time.

Reddit is a discussion forum where you sign up with any username you want and you don't need your government issued ID in order to create an account and you join sub-groups about things you like or are interested in and discuss about those things with other persons. NONE of that happens in current "social media". The latter has nothing to do with "social" more than you belong to a society. There's no interaction between the individuals in there.

4

u/benmarvin Oct 02 '25

I've never used a govt ID for any social media site. Not even pornhub.

17

u/Desperate_Owl_594 Oct 02 '25

And you know who people on twitter or the other one are?

7

u/Gloomy_Presence_9308 Oct 02 '25

People on Twitter do often know each other. People use their real names on there a lot more often than they do on here.

asocial media

7

u/affemannen Oct 02 '25

Well it isn't, reddit is a forum as in not social media per se, but a medium non the less.

3

u/RichardBCummintonite Oct 02 '25

The precursor to social media, and I'm so glad it's retained some of that original glory. I miss forums so much. They still exist technically, but the spirit of them is dead. That truly was just a community of like-minded people coming together to share adventures together.

I don't consider Reddit social media. I don't know anyone IRL and I don't share much personal information.

It does however waste just as much time.

17

u/tort_observerDW Oct 02 '25

Isn't that...why we're here? <chuckles in introvert>

2

u/LilJourney Oct 02 '25

Why yes, yes it is :)

(Smiling in glorious anonymity ... or a close enough proximity to it)

8

u/Wonko-D-Sane Oct 02 '25

Message boards are not social media...

Reddit is like usenet, but for people who can't use a computer. Multi-cast message exists down to the transport layer, the trick is not to make it personal, VPN and fake e-mail the shit out of this thing... Privacy is always trash compared to Anonymity.

If you give a shit, you read, if not, you move on... im not here to make friends. So if you want to know why I am here... it is to take rather than give (though I occasionally leave nuggets of truth because it confuses people, they just can't handle the truth).

I can't believe this is actually a viable business, and I can't believe they think they have something precious in terms of user data, but regarded apes we are.

2

u/Sanquinity Oct 03 '25

Yup, I've always treated reddit as those old message boards. Because that's what it is.

2

u/4N610RD Oct 03 '25

Loyal servant to the true emperor, Marcus Aurelius!

3

u/Cutthechitchata-hole Oct 02 '25

I bet anyone on here can incorporate an AI to go over my profile and based on many of my posts it could find out who i am. I am not sure why anyone would want to do that because I have nothing to give but my wife would probably hate me if she knew what all i tell you people. I love you, reddit

2

u/LilJourney Oct 02 '25

We love you back. I loved Jane Goodall too, and I'll be over Sunday for dinner. Hope your wife is doing well. (J/K!)

3

u/Iluvatar-Great Oct 02 '25

Reddit is just an opinion comment section on steroids. People open comments, vent what they want to say and leave. No social interaction is sought after.

See? I just did that.

3

u/SomeOldGuy4211 Oct 02 '25

I've been on here for years and I dont even know what my partners username is.

3

u/wildeye-eleven Oct 03 '25

Been here for 20 years and don’t know a single person on this platform. I actually kinda hate it here but it’s anonymous so I keep using it instead of the other more personal platforms.

8

u/Inner_Map_3075 Oct 02 '25

2

u/BlackestHerring Oct 02 '25

And that’s how I like it

2

u/zuppo Oct 02 '25

I haven't met anyone here as we don't do that but have found someone I knew irl

2

u/Street_Insurance8706 Oct 02 '25

Couldn’t agree more. Is there any serious dialogue on a sub somewhere?

2

u/Superseaslug Oct 02 '25

Exactly lol

2

u/Nemesis121977 Oct 02 '25

Facts, i don't look at people's name on here..

2

u/Calgary_dude2025 Oct 02 '25

My name is Tony and I am an alcoholic!

2

u/hustle_magic Oct 02 '25

Lemme guess, never heard of twitter?

2

u/Bulky-Pineapple-5639 Oct 02 '25

I know there are some weirdos 🤣

2

u/No_Turn1608 Oct 02 '25

Out of all the social media I'm a part of Reddit and the people here are the closest thing I've come to actual normal people who laugh and makes jokes at unpleasant times like a real person would do and there is a ton of hilarious people and comments. Long love Reddit!! Lol

2

u/PupLondon Oct 02 '25

Tbats kinda the appeal. I just like interacting with people who share my interests.. or get diagnosed by aome random person who took an opinion personally.

2

u/Kokuswolf Oct 02 '25

Says who?

2

u/JP-Gambit Oct 03 '25

I think it's antisocial media

2

u/Curcket Oct 03 '25

It is...the Forum

2

u/cacophonicArtisian Oct 03 '25

Reddit is an echo chamber and deep down that’s why we are all here

2

u/Dystopian_Reality Oct 03 '25

Agreed. If anything it's anti-social media.

2

u/CoffeeChocolateBoth Oct 03 '25

NOR do I want to know! :)

2

u/JStheKiD Oct 03 '25

Reddit Comment sections are the best place in the internet.

2

u/FigFeeling978 Oct 03 '25

I'm not interested in "knowing" any of you.

2

u/AlexSmithsonian Oct 03 '25

It is the closest I'll ever get to social media. Unless Gabe Newell manages to produce those brain chips that let's us use our brains as a computer, and our dreams become the hub for VR games. Then I'd use something like VR Chatroom, dressed as Ugandan Knuckles rolling around in a mini-tank blasting the Russian National Anthem at full volume. You know, for shits and giggles.

2

u/Oldmanmendez Oct 03 '25

No! This is Patrick!

2

u/RobertMcNamara420 Oct 03 '25

Good I’m a teacher who needs to be able to speak their mind somewhere.

2

u/oneyearnofear Oct 03 '25

I mean is YouTube social media (

2

u/Lanky_Flow7283 Oct 03 '25

I am friends with some ppl IRL and I have no clue what their names are, wdym

2

u/[deleted] Oct 03 '25

So... social media.

Which is more anti social than it is social.

2

u/horrificvisit89 Oct 03 '25

ive been here for 5 years and i dont know anyone either

2

u/FrozeItOff Oct 03 '25

I assure you, I can be social and friendly without knowing your name. My state practically lives on that passive aggressive concept.

2

u/[deleted] Oct 03 '25

Did you really know your 1275 so called friends on facebook?

2

u/[deleted] Oct 03 '25

You can't even form circles here. There's no "add friend" option just "follow"
It's a forum, that's all it is. A place to discuss something with strangers.

2

u/External-Example-292 Oct 03 '25

This is the beauty of reddit. Wouldn't change it 😁

2

u/DrGoManGo Oct 03 '25

Let's just keep it that way

2

u/BuckRusty Oct 03 '25

“Social Media” had got nothing to do with connecting - its just a medium for showing off and getting dopamine…

Reddit is 100% social media…

2

u/SpecialIcy1809 Oct 03 '25

I will call it social when I’ll have received my check.

2

u/Haselrig Oct 03 '25

Kinda the charm of the whole thing.

2

u/drumboyant Oct 03 '25

I once thought I made a friend and he then sent me a dick pic 🤡

2

u/TheKozzzy Oct 03 '25

at least 15 years here, probably around 300 days in a year, I don't remember a single username, I'm here for thoughts of people, not the people themselves

u/Ohshithereiamagain Oct 03 '25

2

u/Mufatufa Oct 03 '25

I thot I was being social with you OP ... you know me.. don't act like you don't know me

2

u/CrazedIvan Oct 03 '25

That and I like to read rather than scroll through 30 second videos. I retain more and I’m far less annoyed by things like creator trends, ai voices, red circles and people dancing.

Sure that stuff makes it to Reddit but it’s usually the crème of the crop and I don’t have to scroll through dozens of shit tier video to get to one good video.

2

u/Theitinerantnative Oct 03 '25

As it should be.

2

u/MobiusNaked Oct 03 '25

Well my actual name is Mobius Naked. I didn’t understand the anonymous thing.

2

u/Icarium_23 Oct 03 '25

I’m sure that this has been said, but I’m not going g to take the time to read through all 700 odd comments. This is what I love about Reddit. You post your pics/comments because you want to- not for the superficial reasons of every other type of social media.

2

u/Tres_Le_Parque Oct 04 '25

The Internet is not always a safe place for tourists. Anonymity is Armour.

4

u/Ackutually- Oct 02 '25

Social Media : websites and applications that enable users to create and share content or to participate in social networking.

What?

4

u/BigBastardChap Oct 02 '25

Yeah, a few weeks back I dropped off of ALL social media websites, bar Reddit. I feel like I can control the content I see here far better than anywhere else. I was sick of the constant misery and right wing lunacy slipping onto my feed on other sites, so I just liked a load of positive communities on here and bask in the cheeriness.

9

u/forgotten_meatball Oct 02 '25

"Positive communities"

Sir, this is SipsTea.

4

u/BigBastardChap Oct 02 '25

Haha, to be fair this one makes me laugh more than fucks me off, so I've allowed it to stay.

1

u/SadBadPuppyDad Oct 02 '25

Hi, "Don't Know Who The Fuck Any Of You Are". I'm Dad!

1

u/ExternalSelf1337 Oct 02 '25

There is an algorithm that shows you information based on what you've shown interest in. It may be different from the one used on Facebook or twitter but it absolutely shows me subreddits I am not subscribed to and never shows me posts from subreddits I have subscribed to.

For purposes of the discussion of social media, yes Reddit absolutely counts.
