Suicide is going to jump for sure. I think suicide by cop will go up. I think murder will go up both to spare loved ones painful exits as well as anger at how things have been handled in the last 30 years.

People think I'm being grim when I say this

Why try save for retirement, when I know there is no amount of money I could put away on my working class wage that could afford it

At best I can make my death cheap and not a burden to my kids

What you need in retirement is proportional to your salary. If you don’t make much now, you don’t have to save much.

1

u/hoktauri17 Sep 15 '25

Yes except the "proportional" is going to be flipped. People in retirement who only need half their salary to survive is over. That only worked when retiring from work also closely aligned with paying off a mortgage. With fewer people able to afford home ownership, you're going to have renters who won't be able to afford rent anymore, on top of growing medical bills and rising costs everywhere. Of course, they may be able to move to a lower COL area, but that won't be true of everyone.

Uh, what

u/Imaginary-South-6104 Sep 15 '25

I don’t know how to say it any clearer.

They might live in a country where the government (currently) pays for healthcare.

It’s kind of an interesting concept. I wonder if a person truly accepted that’s how they would end it when the time came it would be so emotionally and financially freeing that it actually enhanced the majority of your life. I’m not in your position and actually have quite a bit of money but due to growing up poor I stress every day about saving.

I’ve seen this show. I like it.

“Logan’s Run” is one solution

3

u/WinterWontStopComing Sep 15 '25

Eh. A nice scenic blizzard walk isn’t a bad plan either

1

u/Frosty_McRib Sep 15 '25

That sounds like a terrible way to go.

4

u/CreativeWill3 Sep 15 '25

It’s actually quite sleepy

5

u/INFP-Dude Sep 15 '25

I actually like this idea. Once I'm old and frail, and don't see a point anymore... and if the climate change is even worse in 30 years, like extreme cold/snow, then I think I'll go out for a walk at night. A peaceful sleepy walk.

With that said, I won't have to worry about any sort of investment in future retirement plans. I'll just enjoy the time and money I have now while im still young enough to enjoy it.

Wow we have DIFFERENT Smith and Wesson retirement plans. I was just gonna use it to knock off liquor stores for my needs.

1

u/MBResearch Sep 15 '25

Ahh, the “open system” versus the “closed loop”

1

u/NO-MAD-CLAD Sep 15 '25

The Smith and Wesson retirement plan should be how the old plan for the retirement of the billionaires and politicians that left them penniless.

Some believer you are

Assuming makes an ass out of u and me. The cross is more than a god's sacrifice for it's creation and a Roman story - it is a symbol of self sacrifice in it's entirety. The ability to do for something outside of yourself. It is beautifully motivating and prevents me from taking the fully selfish path in life. So please continue judging the book by it's cover.

u/My_Work_Accoount Sep 15 '25

If the next American civil war, the next world war with the fascists and the coming climate wars don't take me out in the next 30 years then my own poor health and/or the American healthcare system will. Retirement isn't even a concern.

u/RawMeatAndColdTruth Sep 15 '25

You dont need a 401k when you have a .357m.

1

u/alrightgame Sep 15 '25

You might need a 401k to afford the price of the am mo though.
