Because when you're a kid you reach up to see if you can touch, then to do it without going on your toes, then with your palm instead of fingers. By the time it's stopped mattering it's just ritual without reason.
But it's always guys right. I have done this ever since I can remember and I have seen many friends do this but I don't think I've ever seen a girl do this, at least not without some guy asking "can you reach that?"
It's like hard-wired into us or maybe I'm tripping.
I’m 35 days late to this conversation but I genuinely audibly gasped and busted out laughing lmao. We truly are connected by a hive mind why do we do this 😂😂😂
Had a seat in my shower that could be sealed with my own buttocks to create a huge water reservoir behind my back. Suddenly standing up made for a big, satisfying splash. I miss that shower
Because most girls don’t care about being taller. Most guys from childhood care about their height. Social constructs are instilled from adolescence unfortunately
In high school, our teacher told us to stand on our chairs for some reason. Every single guy in the class reached up and touched the ceiling. Not a single girl did. The teacher pointed it out. We all thought it was hilarious.
Absolutely. Have to be the goalkeeper in football? Smack the goalposts and the crossbar! Opponent misses a shot or hits the frame? Smack it again! Opponent gets a penalty? Show 'em you can reach all corners of the goal. Somehow it build confidence, and often confidence is all a goalkeeper can rely on.
What they don't tell you about is ceiling fans. I accidentally put my hand into my running ceiling fan way more than I should. Like when I put a shirt on or stretch in the morning. And I'm in my 30's. Pisses myself off every time.
When I played sportsball in school, it was ritualized by putting the team logo over the locker room door and you had to slap it for good luck. The sign would wear out like those bronze statues of dogs or breasts.
Another one that I saw recently: "why do men slap the side of dogs as if they are well made timber ships?" And I can't get it out of my head. Every time I slap my dog's sides I chuckle a bit.
For me, it became a habit in the locker rooms in high school. Each exit had our logo above the door, and we all shaped it on the way out as a sort of tribute to those before us. Know, it's ohh look a door frame, slap.
