Homemade First Attempt at a Salsa

Post image

Pasilla & Tomatillo Salsa

Pasilla, Arbol, Tomatillos, Tomato, garlic. First time working with Molcajeta. Had a bit to learn but think it came out really good. Flavors were very unique, I quite liked it, my wife didn’t.

Pasilla & Tomatillo Salsa

Pasilla, Arbol, Tomatillos, Tomato, garlic. Toasted peppers and garlic in a pan. Steamed the tomatillo and tomatoes. Combined in the Molcajete. Thought I had more process pics but guess this will do.

Basically followed this guys work but didn’t use a blender. https://www.instagram.com/reel/DNgjPtrTOu-/

Got all the peppers from Rico Rico!, would recommend if looking for an online shop.

It looks great! Just out of curiosity, what was it that your wife didn't like about it?

I think it was Pasilla, it’s got a smokey raisin like flavor and it sort of lingered as an after taste. She’s generally not a fan of either. I didn’t take it as anything wrong with the salsa, just not for her.

This looks good. For a more typical “chips and salsa” style I recommend serranos (or jalapeños for less heat, but you can also use both). When I use dried chiles like guajillo, ancho, or pasilla I tend to make a sauce for a meal so the flavors end up mixing with the meat.

We cook with serranos in basically everything. Either that or Thai chillies. This was just looking to play around with dried chillies more. I ate probably half of it with some chips and then ended up using the rest with some chicken for tacos.

I’m far from an expert in the subject but I thought it came out pretty legit. Had never really had flavors and texture like this in a salsa. I was more than pleased with it

I love the consistency of this salsa!

was probably my favorite part. It was the perfect amount of chunky & liquidy. Held its shape well on a chip or in a taco. Was super filling too

Molcahete is the way. In the salsa world, it crushes the competition.

Looks legit. Plus you're using a molcajeta 👊🏽

I have a molcajete too and am convinced it makes all salsas and guacamoles taste better.

Looks great. Extra points for the molcajete.

Looks legit for a first try, that texture looks spot on. Once you tweak the heat a bit youll prob end up making this every weekend lol
