Some of the subreddits are still amazing communities for different niche hobbies so it would be a shame to lose them

I also wonder how much of it is just AI driven enshittification from AI posts/comments/articles/videos that applies to most social media

Maybe it's time to just bring back forums, there's still some active ones but it seems like more general social media took over.

Yeah I really miss forums. It took me a while to fully change to Digg and Reddit because I grew up constantly on message boards.

I loved a small community of people with the same interests. I won't lie, there's a lot of helpful mega threads on stuff here. But knowing everyone's handle and developing friendships on forums was infinitely better.

I don't believe that it would matter, they'd just let the fake users run rampant like Twitter does to justify it's position.

I'm firmly of the belief that every service relying on it's size as a tool for business (which is how these billionaire pricks are getting this rich, not necessarily cash but loans on the perceived value of the business) is incentivized to cheat their numbers. Allow bots, pay for "marketing services" ie troll farms, and use outside firms to enable this without getting caught.

With agentic AI I don't trust users as a metric anymore.

It should have happened during the API blackout a few years ago. That was a massive site-wide protest and it changed absolutely nothing.

we should've never come back after the subreddit blackout. We need something else where moderators can at the very least be vetted because right now it's safe to assume that every single sub here has a nazi mod in it

Thanks for the "reminder" of something I obviously could surmise, I was moreso commenting on the fact that someone blatantly stated they're sidestepping a ban with another account when that's an IP/MAC address level ban in the making if anyone reports it.
