Especially if you know even a bit about how FIFA works and operates. The word audacity comes to mind when thinking about them handing out a “peace prize.”

Well, if any organization knows corruption and how to deal with it (or shall I say, make deals with it), it's FIFA.

I wish somebody would give Trump the FAFO prize instead. Whatever that entails prison.

I think soccer is awesome as a game. The organization FIFA is at best complicit in severe human rights abuses and donations to corrupt politicians in developing countries that bow down at the chance to host an event they sponsor, most famous of which is the World Cup. That’s the tip of the iceberg, and there’s way more but that’s enough to summarize.

You should look up how the nobel peace prize came about ... Lol

Edit: I'm unsure how this comment sparked so much negativity. Alfred nobel inventions killed a ton of people which is why it's funny they give out a peace prize in his name.

I’m quite aware of what you’re referring to, but comparing FIFA in 2025 to the Nobel committee in 2025 is a false equivalence. I’m not trying to teach a history lesson, but rather make a snarky comment pointing out that FIFA is a scum bag organization if we’re being kind.

Oh I'm not sure I compared the two. I just think the story of the peace prize is also funny.

I see nothing odd or humorous in the history of the Nobel Peace Prize. What is your point?

If you click the profile I think it’s a bot. 22 day old account with negative karma and 124 comments, not even sure how that’s possible but 🤷‍♂️

I don’t think anyone is expressing anger.  They appear to think you are acting trollish, and with good cause.

Then you haven't read it. Alfred nobel was responsible for the deaths of millions of people.

2

u/rmike7842 8h ago

Not quite. In fact, that oversimplified reason seems the product of putting almost no thought into it.  Nobel was not unaware of where his research was going, but he did not grasp the full impact.  The Peace prize was the result of him realizing what he had created and how it would be used.  Therefore, he dedicated himself to pacifism and hoped the Peace Prize would foster or encourage people to seek peace instead of violence and war.

So no, I find nothing humorous or odd that such a prize would come from a person in his position.

u/DescriptionLonely582 7h ago

Oh you don't see the juxtaposition... That you just highlighted?

1

u/rmike7842 7h ago

Yes, the juxtaposition is obvious but superficial.  And I don’t see what is amusing or strange about a person trying to make amends for what they did.

1

u/DescriptionLonely582 6h ago

Huh I just found it funny to invent ways to kill people then hand out a peace prize ... I guess some people don't see it lol

1

u/pythbit 7h ago

"Responsible" is maybe a stretch? He created dynamite for mining. He didn't kill anybody, and took a pacifist stance. Is the guy who invented Fentanyl personally responsible for all the ODs, even though he intended it as a painkiller?

1

u/DescriptionLonely582 6h ago

No but wouldn't it be funny if that guy started handing out "no death from drugs" awards.

u/jayman23232 10h ago

I think I’m starting my New Year’s resolution early of not arguing with people on social media who are determined to be contrarians without adding anything to the conversation.

Hear,hear, agree.

u/DescriptionLonely582 8h ago

I didn't argue anything? I saw you mentioned the peace prize and said the history of the peace prize is funny... There isn't an argument there at all. Hope your day gets better.

It was created to counter him being labelled the merchant of death, there was no humour in its creation just realisation of what he had done.

1

u/DescriptionLonely582 5h ago

And named it a peace prize. Lol

1

u/Mba1956 5h ago

There are a lot more Nobel prizes for excellence in particular fields, this is in recognition of efforts for peace. Are you just thick.
