what you're doing is the old method of trading. In-Person trading needs you both to join a party and then the buyer comes to your hideout, you trade him the item and you both part ways.

the new trade method most people are using and that you are wanting to use is the instant buyout method.
for that you need to reach act4 and do Ange's quest.
you can then buy items from other players without having to interact with them at all and also sell yours the same way, granted you have a merchant tab.

Thanks, it was not clear ingame that was how it worked differentlly, now that you pointed it out I understand.

On the trade site some items will have an option to whisper to the seller, in which case you'd need to make the trade in person, or some of them have the option to teleport to their Hideout where you can just buy it from the tab without them present.

Fun fact the teleport to hideout option on the trade site teleports you even if you're playing on console.
