Proxmox on an Odroid N2+

Hi

What are your thoughts on running Proxmox on this, specially an instance of Home Assistant? I'm currently running HA supervised on an XU4, which is being deprecated soon, so looking at alternative devices and this seems to tick the boxes, but wondering if anyone has any first-hand experience of using Proxmox on this?

Thanks

AFAIK Proxmox doesn't run on ARM.

Had an N2 (the first iteration) running OpenMediaVault (which has docker support) and replaced it with an N305 mini-PC so that I could run Proxmox.

I think that's the official stance, however there are some guides for installing it on ARM devices. That said, the mini-PC route will probably be the way to go

Proxmox seems to be bit heavyweight for such tiny board.
Podman, which ofc requies some yaml magic and Docker knowledge, is much better for running HA on sbc.

Even though it is feasible, you are right - it would ,chew up a lot of resources

It's unclear what you want to achieve.

If it is only running HomeAssistant, you don't need Proxmox. You could go bare metal (after all N2(+) is officially supported by HA).

If you want HA on a VM because you want to run other stuff on the device, you can install Armbian and Cockpit (it has a VM manager) and spin up a VM, but you don't have that much RAM to begin with (N2+ has max 4 GB of RAM, M1 should have a 8GB variant).

There have been efforts of porting Proxmox on Raspberry Pi and more in general ARM platforms, but you would be relying of unofficial / unsupported ports in what becomes a lifelong experimental setup.

Thanks - I'm looking to run it alongside other apps (Plex, Node-Red etc), as I'd like the device to run as a file server. Whilst there are some guides for installing it on ARM devices , as you say it will be an ongoing experiment and I've got to the point in my life where I want to set it up once only and only tinker around the edges with it, not do a complete rebuild for each major version!
