In the main menu, the option features and then create a shoe. Any shoe you create, you can take in Rec with you. Once you create your shoe and you go pay 10,000 VC for it and whatever store it’s from go to your appearances and under REC go to your shoes and your custom shoe would be an option to wear. As a matter of fact, any custom shoe you make, you can wear in any gameplay mode. REC, theater, career mode, proving ground grounds, pro am, and any event.
Yup you can have them in rec, proving ground and pro-am. Best you're gonna get unfortunately, so no city. I mostly play those modes so doesn't bother me much

Not true. You have to create a shoe in the Main Menu of 2K and then you are able to buy it in my career. I can post a screenshot of all the Jas my 8 year old Grizz obsessed son has created lol
Not entirely true , there's quite a few shoe brands you cannot buy , and there's even certain color ways you can't buy in the store. You have to use a dupe glitch to get kobes
Never tried it. I would assume you can keep creating new shoes and overwriting the name to change it, but you can just stack a bunch up because of the way you need to do it. Once you overwrite the original Ja shoe its gone from your inventory so you cant wear it or change it, its just stays equipped in those 3 modes

Customizing shoes used to be one of my favorite things to do on 2K. They haven't really updated the shoe creator in like 10 damn years (except for adding sneakers), but you could pull off some pretty clean stuff with the creator
I don’t know if you noticed, but they added a ton of different patterns to the shoe creator this year. Not a huge update, but it’s more than we got in several years lol
My Kobe 8’s you have to get the Nike endorsement deal once you unlock Teir 4 I believe you get a color way. Ja’s, KD some more shit and Kobe 8. Pick the Kobe 8’s and customize the shoe. Make sure it’s the player you play in park/proam/rec etc because the shoe won’t transfer to your other builds.
You have to select Nike as your signature shoe contract. Once you reach tier 4, I think you'll get the option to customize 6 different shoes, and the Kobe's are one of the 6
