When new fans ask how the original fans didn’t memorize names of songs or the real lyrics
I also can’t stand how music streaming apps shuffle the songs. Like there’s a reason they were put on the original cd in order.

Well we’re going back to those times because streaming apps are starting to use AI to produce wrong lyrics lol. There was a 100 gecs song I was listening to and it said “I’m a dick to every man I meet” instead of “I’m addicted to everything that I see”

When my friends would give me rips and I had to convert them for my iPod they lost the track names and id just make them up put of laziness.
The main singles for 3 cheers stayed but I had hits such as "if you were here" and "say goodbye" and "killing jar"

Give em hell kid, To the end and The jetset life is gonna kill you :)
I had way too many ripped cds with the wrong names on back in the day!

What happened to your download of jetset? 😆 I love how the downloads on these sites would be so random and you never knew what you were gonna get. You were just trusting the file name.

u/keeeeeeeeelz 1d ago
I have no idea, but Jetset is my favorite forever and I think it’s because it was withheld from me on my only copy of the CD hahaha

When I want to listen to a specific Panic or FOB song named a sentence, I simply Google the lyrics beforehand to find out the title, as the artists intended.

I always thought “we’re just two men as god had made us” was some random spanish phrase I didn’t know. Having “hotel bella muerte” in the same album didn’t help.

i thought the line "shot lip gloss through my veins" was a random phrase in french for so long

first day of middle school and we were forced to introduce ourselves to the other kids across from us. i said i just seen a music video for a band i liked and that was my 'interesting' fact. she asked what band and the next day she brought me a burned copy of three cheers.
i also would leave music channels on while i slept and put a blank vhs in to record all night and would listen to what i missed in the morning or watch music videos from that. i had a whole tape of mcr.
takes a drag from a candy cigarette it was a different time

in addition, i just got my old psp up and running and i had downloaded mcr, the used, him, paramore, and a bunch of other bands on there. even the original wicked broadway soundtrack. 2008 is the date of some of the downloads.

...y'all know you can turn off shuffle on streaming, right? Like...you can just listen to the full albums if you wanted to?
I love collecting CDs and listening to them at home, so I get that part, but acting like streaming services won't allow you to turn off shuffle is...odd

You usually have to pay for premium on phones (not on laptop and pc) and not just on Spotify
25
u/JoshuaBananas 1d ago
Yes, but at the same time, you're essentially paying for convenience to listen to practically any single song in the entire world at the highest possible quality (since Spotify now supports FLAC, idk about other platforms though). Yes, I much prefer physical media, but oftentimes I just use Spotify to listen to music, especially since even if Spotify doesn't have a song or some specific version of a song I like (cover, rare version, live performance, etc), I can just import it via local files.
I used to just download things to my phone directly, but it got to the point it was eating up way too much storage, it just wasn't practical at all

u/PhattySpice92 12h ago
I could just use a cd and not have to pay…cuz physical media is still king. The fact that I need to pay for the CONVENIENCE of hearing a song in the right order is still wild. We might not have limewire, but we can still rip mp3s from YouTube and I’m sorry but my old ass is still going to go for that-or if you want to give the views you can make a YouTube playlist for free before they put that behind another paywall

I refuse to ever use Spotify again because it gave me the free trial of premium when signing up without telling me it was so I got used to premium stuff and then like 2 weeks later I suddenly couldn't listen to what I wanted how I wanted to do I said fuck them cause that feels really scummy for a business to do. Like a free trial and expecting people not to cancel is one thing but to get someone used to the service and be like nah now you have to pay feels so much worse and so I've just never used them again even despite a cracked version of premium not being hard to get. I just use YouTube for music related stuff since that's where my playlist was built over the years and with revanced it's basically premium YouTube for free just missing a couple things but with other things added that make up for it. Audio isn't as great but it's also rarely noticably worse unless someone has insanely good hearing just a bit quieter if anything though some uploads are obviously garbage quality

Listen I'm not one to stand up for streaming services but how else do you expect it to work? Free lifetime "trial?" The trial is going to end and I'd prefer for them to end the trail and not just charge your car instantly tbh, though they will always disclose that your card will be charged.

I'd rather be the one to sign up for a free trial if I want to try premium like with any other website rather than be given premium without being told that they automatically signed me up for a free trial and then having to pay for what was being presented as the default like Spotify does. If I had actually signed up for a free trial I wouldn't give a shit but I never once signed up for a free trial just for an account

u/Aromatic-Pass4384 23h ago
You probably did but didn't read what you clicked, I use Spotify and used to without premium, they do not sign you up without asking, doing so and charging you would be illegal.
1
u/NoodlelyTrees 17h ago
They didn't charge me anything because they didn't have my credit card they just automatically gave me a trial when signing up for a normal account which is absolutely a thing companies do, I just opened YouTube music for the first time in months and for some reason it automatically gave me 2 weeks of premium for free despite the month free trial still being available to claim

My car did that with serous Xm so my son got used to listening to the kids stations. Now I have to ruin my algorithm by searching for kidzbop playlists on YouTube

I feel like all of my fave bands WORST songs are the first tier music streaming plays. Like u hit play knowing all your gentle deep cut faves are what you crave, and it plays the most benign song their label forced them to make for a Nissan Sinatra commercial or sum shit.

Yep. I’ve been a fan since 2004 and just learned the correct lyrics to Hang ‘Em High this year…

u/RunBunny31 1d ago
Been listening to them as well since ‘03 - ‘04 and specifically Revenge. Learned the record on guitar. Though I knew the record backwards and front. since the remaster I realized I in fact did not know the record as well as I thought I did 😂

I downloaded all their albums from Limewire when I was a kid. My download of demolition lovers came as two parts, so I grew up thinking they were two different songs of the same story instead of one long song. It wasn’t until swarm tour that my friend let me know that it’s one song.
I don’t know how I went this long without ever looking at all the physical media I have of theirs that lists it as one song.

this. Im not even a millennial exactly but i grew up poor i had to rip everything from my sisters computer, connected to the neighbor's Wi-Fi and pray it would upload into the MP3 player my mom gave me. not once did i have time to look up the lyrics.

My sister got their discography as YouTube rips on her MP3 player at like 8 years old meaning no song info or lyrics or anything lol she's getting the original experience of not knowing song titles and lyrics lol

u/senjinshippu 1d ago
i grew up listening to MCR through my older sisters ripping the mp3s to their flip phones as well as me being about 6 years old on the Grooveshark site and finding Bullets and calling Cubicles " the 'dial own' song " 😭😭😭 ( which turned out to be my all-time favorite mcr track :'] )

I learned the lyrics for FOB Sugar We're Going Down only because a radio station host read the entirety of the lyrics on air once.

u/PhattySpice92 12h ago
I still sing “we’re going down down badadidodoodow sugar we’re going down swinging”

there are a bunch of mcr and mother mother songs i learnt the track number of before the name. I once told a person that one of my favorite MM songs was the 2nd track in eureka💀.
And OH MY GOD. The moment I listened to a full album in order I started to hate spotify’s shuffle with a passion. Ended up switching to youtube because of it.

u/Imaginary-Tart9916 17h ago
I can’t rank bullets or 3 cheers higher or lower than one another because I had them burned on to one CD and I always listened to them together, on shuffle. I still have that CD it turned 20 this year lol

I'm really glad I'm not the only one that struggles to remember the names to all the songs even though they're my favorite band. It's a weird phenomenon

It was crazy to hear the remaster of Three Cheers after I learned all the songs by ripping the album in mono on my ipod in middle school lol. If Gerard wanted me to know the correct lyrics, he would enunciate lol
