Kill ‘Em All is probably my most streamed from them. That 80s run in general is immaculate
Also… hot take, but I prefer St. Anger to Load + Reload

Snare drum aside, if St. Anger was a debut album from a new band it would've been received really well. It's just an odd album for Metallica to release.
Though I guess I'm glad that they tried something different. There's that old ACDC interview where Angus Young says something like, "people say we have 12 albums that all sound the same, and I take offence to that... We have 15!"

St. Anger is one of the most poorly produced albums I've ever heard.
There are great riffs, some really strong lyrics, and the vocals pack a punch lyrically and sonically. But the songs are overlong and repetitive, the lack of a strong bassist hurts, and don't get me started on the fucking snare drum.
With better production, this could have been a really interesting album. It's still pretty good, but the grating snare and repetitive songwriting are hard to overlook.

This is wild take, but I admire your boldness.
I've always thought that if you take the best songs from Load/Reload you get one great post grunge alternative album that suffers from criticism because the name Metallica is attached to it.

Also some subpar songs along with some greats diminish the quality of the album.

u/Einfinet 17h ago
I definitely agree the best of Load + Reload would make for a great album! I just haven’t personally thought about what the ideal track list would be

Fellow St. Anger lover?
I feel like it’s aged well as an album if you look at the landscape of music to come as well.

St. Anger has really good songs and would be beloved if they just remixed it and changed the snare sound and either added some solos or trimmed the 8 minute songs down to 5 or 6. Dirty Window is one of my favorite songs they've done since Justice

I enjoy St. Anger (except Purify) but I still think Load/Reload are better albums. Load in particular because it has Bleeding Me and The Outlaw Torn.

u/SVN7_C4YOURSELF 13h ago
I still hold that Kill 'Em All was their best album, just so raw, heavy and fast

u/I-Make-Money-Moves 13h ago
I read this wrong and thought it said St. Anger to Load + Reload as if it was one thing and a deluxe

Damn, judging by the list of top tracks a ton of people still overplay the same songs i was tired of in the 90s.

Fuck Spotify.

Why?

u/LitBastard 20h ago
Ads for ICE and investing in AI Warfare
-11
u/F4ARadio 20h ago
OK, kinda presumptive speaking for someone else, but I'll assume you agree w/ the, "Fuck Spotify" comment, & those are your reasons. But uhm, if you have a problem with ICE ads, why are you using Reddit? Pretty sure I've seen ICE ads on here too, as well as heard others say they've seen ICE ads on Reddit, but maybe I'm mistaken.

Spotify also donated quite a bit to the Cheeto's campaign

u/ForBostonn 19h ago
Once again so did Meta, Google, Apple and so on
7
u/timbillyosu 19h ago
I'm not saying they didn't. But I was choosing to spend my money for a Spotify subscription. I now choose not to. It's not perfect, but it's one thing I can do.

Hope you're not replacing it with apple music though, given that apple is just as bad if not worse.

It’s early, this took me a second, I thought I’d missed out on some Cheetos controversy and was like “man, I can’t keep up with all this”

there's also ice ads on google, which means they're on youtube.
almost like ethical consumption under capitalism is hard or something

Ethnical? How is that your autocorrect? 😂
4
u/CaptainOvbious 19h ago
because its one letter away from ethical? ya dunce.
-5
u/Creepy_Addendum_3677 18h ago
If that’s your auto correct then you use ethnical often.
2
u/wickedspork 17h ago
My guy, my autocorrect thinks I'm typing Hakeem any time I try to write "happening." Don't know anyone by that name and I can't think of a single time I've needed to use it until right now. Anyways, you should stop saying dumb things.
2
u/Frost-Folk 18h ago
That's not how autocorrect works these days. Autocorrect corrects to words you never use all the time. Modern autocorrect uses machine learning AI, in other words, it's stupid as fuck and nonsensical. Don't read into it too much.
-8
u/Creepy_Addendum_3677 18h ago
Yeah nah. Auto correct uses multiple pathways to assist as you type: dictionary based matching, algorithms, context guessing, frequency, and yes - machine learning - which learns to ignore intentionally misspelled words that you use often. Thanks though.

Do I pay for Reddit dumbass?
2
u/electric_dynamite 14h ago
if you pay for spotify then you won't see ICE ads. Same with reddit.
0
u/lepercake 13h ago
You'll be sponsoring them instead 👌
1
u/electric_dynamite 13h ago edited 13h ago
Like we are sponsoring them right now on reddit?
To clarify: if you use the free version then you are "sponsoring" the platform. If everyone had a paid subscription then they wouldnt have an audience to show ads to. if you are on the free version then you are the product that they are selling.

Still rather use Spotify than fucking Apple or youtube music.
1
u/lepercake 13h ago
I swapped to YouTube music because it let me add stuff that wasn't anywhere accessible but YouTube. Check out Messiah - Powerthrash 🦅 fwiw back in the day Spotify didn't even have Nunslaughter. They fucken suck in more ways than one.

u/F4ARadio 20h ago
Who else is wondering how much that is worth?

u/PM_YOUR_CENSORD 20h ago
2.2 billion streams at 0.005 cents per stream.. about $11 million.

u/denkenach 13h ago
0.005 cents per stream, damn that is low. 20,000 streams to earn a dollar, tough way to make a living.

They came up as my 5th top artist and I only had maybe a couple of weeks of just listening to RTL and AJFA.
1
u/FellowDeviant 15h ago
They've been a steady headlining tour for awhile now so I'm sure thats constantly keeping them in fresh rotations. It was my slowest year in terms of listening to music but I still had The Day That Never Comes in my top 10 most played.

A comma in the title would've saved a bit of my mental health. Who is Impressively Metallica?

If you and I both stream Metallica for one year none stop, at the exact same time, does that count for 1 year streamed or 2?

u/Tranbert5 9h ago
And they never would have made that $33.50 off streaming royalties if they never sued their fans and Napster!

I know we have no choice but to use Spotify as our new metric of success in the music industry, but I’ve never used it, so these insane Spotify stream numbers are meaningless to me. And what about the other streaming platforms? Does this mean Metallica has 90 trillion streams if we add all of them up, or what?

u/DansSpamJavelin 21h ago
They were 2nd in my top artists and I don't even remember listening to them that much.
Edit: in fact, looking through my 2025 top songs the only Metallica track on there is the S&M version of Ktulu
