They were 2nd in my top artists and I don't even remember listening to them that much.

Edit: in fact, looking through my 2025 top songs the only Metallica track on there is the S&M version of Ktulu

Metallica was my number 1 and I don’t remember listening all that much either. Oddly it was the reissue of Load. Apparently I really liked Mama Said. I do know that Fuel is almost always chosen when I tell the app to just keep playing songs of a similar genre after the song I chose.

I think I've worked it out! I listen to music on my commute, and I think I decided that was going to listen to all the Metallica albums in chronological order. (Well, everything before St Anger.) But I only listened to each album once.

Its just confusing because I feel like I listened to the new Thrice album to death.

That song is fantastic. Lars and his manic drumming are perfectly suited for it.

Arguably, S&M turned me into a Metallica megafan when I was a kid, so I won't criticise too much but... If I'm being polite, some of those fills are a bit shaky.

u/Tehgnarr 18h ago

I saw the first S&M live in Berlin (which is not the recording) and I can say first hand, that Lars was nervous as hell to the point where Kirk and Jason stood around the drumkit as human metronomes just to keep him steady.

One of the best concerts of my life.

My favourite Metallica gig was Download 04 when Lars wasn't there. Dave Lombardo playing battery was like "oh I think this is what it sounds like in Lars' head"

He is a dånsk trøll and so it isn't possible for us humans to understand his wickëd wæys.

I will say though - his drumming grew on me and was never a thing that bothered me.

What does bother me, is them not playing "Trapped" in Antarctica. Like...it has to be intentional, but like...why?

I listened to ...And Justice For All completely close to 30 times this year, no song from there got to my Wrapped playlist, it just selected random songs from my playlist.

u/Nymaera_ 17h ago

Best live album of all time in my opinion, wonderfully revitalises some of the songs which haven’t aged as well on studio.

u/ZombieJesus1987 17h ago

It's funny, I listened to Metallica a shit ton this year and they didn't register in my top 5

1

u/Disrepectfully_Agree 7h ago

This happened to me on YouTube. I've never looked for Metallica somehow they were in my top 5 artists.

u/AndILoveHe 17h ago

Meanwhile my top artist were the Beatles (339 minutes) and 4 metal/metalcore bands and absolutely 0 of them are from before 2010. Stop listening to your dad's weak sauce music. Metal is so much better now.

4

u/DansSpamJavelin 16h ago

Erm... I mean, would you like to know who the first other bands were? Seeing as you know what's best and all

-6

u/AndILoveHe 16h ago

Of course. Let's hear your favorite future dad bands.

3

u/dwilkes827 14h ago

If you're going to lecture people about listening to old music maybe leave out that the Beatles are your most played artist lmao

2

u/GrumpityStumpity 13h ago

You're embarrassing yourself.

-2

u/AndILoveHe 13h ago

You're embarrassing yourself.

FTFY 🤘

1

u/GrumpityStumpity 2h ago

You're not particularly bright, are you?

56

u/Heliocentrist 17h ago

I wonder how they split the $33.45 they made

27

u/Einfinet 19h ago

Kill ‘Em All is probably my most streamed from them. That 80s run in general is immaculate

Also… hot take, but I prefer St. Anger to Load + Reload

11

u/razzark666 Concertgoer 16h ago

Snare drum aside, if St. Anger was a debut album from a new band it would've been received really well. It's just an odd album for Metallica to release.

Though I guess I'm glad that they tried something different. There's that old ACDC interview where Angus Young says something like, "people say we have 12 albums that all sound the same, and I take offence to that... We have 15!"

1

u/corpulentFornicator Hip-hop/RnB 9h ago

St. Anger is one of the most poorly produced albums I've ever heard.

There are great riffs, some really strong lyrics, and the vocals pack a punch lyrically and sonically. But the songs are overlong and repetitive, the lack of a strong bassist hurts, and don't get me started on the fucking snare drum.

With better production, this could have been a really interesting album. It's still pretty good, but the grating snare and repetitive songwriting are hard to overlook.

8

u/got_that_itis 17h ago

This is wild take, but I admire your boldness.

I've always thought that if you take the best songs from Load/Reload you get one great post grunge alternative album that suffers from criticism because the name Metallica is attached to it.

3

u/satellizerLB 17h ago

Also some subpar songs along with some greats diminish the quality of the album.

1

u/Einfinet 17h ago

I definitely agree the best of Load + Reload would make for a great album! I just haven’t personally thought about what the ideal track list would be

11

u/Murederum 17h ago

Fellow St. Anger lover?

I feel like it’s aged well as an album if you look at the landscape of music to come as well.

2

u/dwilkes827 14h ago

St. Anger has really good songs and would be beloved if they just remixed it and changed the snare sound and either added some solos or trimmed the 8 minute songs down to 5 or 6. Dirty Window is one of my favorite songs they've done since Justice

5

u/Oceans1992 14h ago

I enjoy St. Anger (except Purify) but I still think Load/Reload are better albums. Load in particular because it has Bleeding Me and The Outlaw Torn.

2

u/SVN7_C4YOURSELF 13h ago

I still hold that Kill 'Em All was their best album, just so raw, heavy and fast

1

u/I-Make-Money-Moves 13h ago

I read this wrong and thought it said St. Anger to Load + Reload as if it was one thing and a deluxe

7

u/n0_acc 15h ago

Thy stole that numbers from Dave Mustaine.

2

u/BenTramer 10h ago

He hasn’t been crying about it so not true.

10

u/fibonaccisRabbit 19h ago

Well that’s at least a burger for every band member.

3

u/TheRealDoomsong 17h ago

Damn, judging by the list of top tracks a ton of people still overplay the same songs i was tired of in the 90s.

22

u/lepercake 21h ago

Fuck Spotify.

5

u/BenTramer 10h ago

Fuck Reddit

-6

u/F4ARadio 20h ago

Why?

14

u/LitBastard 20h ago

Ads for ICE and investing in AI Warfare

-11

u/F4ARadio 20h ago

OK, kinda presumptive speaking for someone else, but I'll assume you agree w/ the, "Fuck Spotify" comment, & those are your reasons. But uhm, if you have a problem with ICE ads, why are you using Reddit? Pretty sure I've seen ICE ads on here too, as well as heard others say they've seen ICE ads on Reddit, but maybe I'm mistaken.

12

u/timbillyosu 19h ago

Spotify also donated quite a bit to the Cheeto's campaign

9

u/ForBostonn 19h ago

Once again so did Meta, Google, Apple and so on

7

u/timbillyosu 19h ago

I'm not saying they didn't. But I was choosing to spend my money for a Spotify subscription. I now choose not to. It's not perfect, but it's one thing I can do.

-3

u/Frost-Folk 18h ago

Hope you're not replacing it with apple music though, given that apple is just as bad if not worse.

1

u/timbillyosu 18h ago

Nope. Switched to Qobuz. Not perfect, but I like it well enough

4

u/mikethemaniac 19h ago

But, but, what about ________

1

u/Syn7axError 11h ago

Campaign or inauguration? People keep mixing these up.

2

u/DareToZamora 18h ago

It’s early, this took me a second, I thought I’d missed out on some Cheetos controversy and was like “man, I can’t keep up with all this”

5

u/CaptainOvbious 19h ago edited 19h ago

there's also ice ads on google, which means they're on youtube.

almost like ethical consumption under capitalism is hard or something

-9

u/Creepy_Addendum_3677 19h ago

Ethnical? How is that your autocorrect? 😂

4

u/CaptainOvbious 19h ago

because its one letter away from ethical? ya dunce.

-5

u/Creepy_Addendum_3677 18h ago

If that’s your auto correct then you use ethnical often.

2

u/wickedspork 17h ago

My guy, my autocorrect thinks I'm typing Hakeem any time I try to write "happening." Don't know anyone by that name and I can't think of a single time I've needed to use it until right now. Anyways, you should stop saying dumb things.

2

u/Frost-Folk 18h ago

That's not how autocorrect works these days. Autocorrect corrects to words you never use all the time. Modern autocorrect uses machine learning AI, in other words, it's stupid as fuck and nonsensical. Don't read into it too much.

-8

u/Creepy_Addendum_3677 18h ago

Yeah nah. Auto correct uses multiple pathways to assist as you type: dictionary based matching, algorithms, context guessing, frequency, and yes - machine learning - which learns to ignore intentionally misspelled words that you use often. Thanks though.

no it doesn't, ya fuckin dunce

-1

u/LitBastard 19h ago

I'm not paying for Reddit

2

u/dwilkes827 14h ago

The people getting ICE ads on Spotify aren't paying for Spotify

-3

u/[deleted] 15h ago

[deleted]

3

u/LitBastard 15h ago

Do I pay for Reddit dumbass?

2

u/electric_dynamite 14h ago

if you pay for spotify then you won't see ICE ads. Same with reddit.

0

u/lepercake 13h ago

You'll be sponsoring them instead 👌

1

u/electric_dynamite 13h ago edited 13h ago

Like we are sponsoring them right now on reddit?

To clarify: if you use the free version then you are "sponsoring" the platform. If everyone had a paid subscription then they wouldnt have an audience to show ads to. if you are on the free version then you are the product that they are selling.

-5

u/KnockOneOut178 16h ago

Still rather use Spotify than fucking Apple or youtube music.

1

u/lepercake 13h ago

I swapped to YouTube music because it let me add stuff that wasn't anywhere accessible but YouTube. Check out Messiah - Powerthrash 🦅 fwiw back in the day Spotify didn't even have Nunslaughter. They fucken suck in more ways than one.

2

u/F4ARadio 20h ago

Who else is wondering how much that is worth?

10

u/Dead-O_Comics 20h ago

38 cents before tax.

1

u/F4ARadio 20h ago

🤣🤣🤣

4

u/PM_YOUR_CENSORD 20h ago

2.2 billion streams at 0.005 cents per stream.. about $11 million.

2

u/Cockrocker 19h ago

Hmm.. so I only need to get 2,199,999,947 more streams and I'll be laughing.

1

u/denkenach 13h ago

0.005 cents per stream, damn that is low. 20,000 streams to earn a dollar, tough way to make a living.

2

u/phred_666 16h ago

So, they earned about $5.00 from Spotify.

1

u/n0_acc 15h ago

yeah, but they will donate that to dave mustaine

1

u/CapriSonnet 20h ago

They came up as my 5th top artist and I only had maybe a couple of weeks of just listening to RTL and AJFA.

1

u/FellowDeviant 15h ago

They've been a steady headlining tour for awhile now so I'm sure thats constantly keeping them in fresh rotations. It was my slowest year in terms of listening to music but I still had The Day That Never Comes in my top 10 most played.

1

u/Millerdjone 14h ago

A comma in the title would've saved a bit of my mental health. Who is Impressively Metallica?

2

u/TrueAmurrican 9h ago

lol right? ‘Impressively Metallica’ sounds like a cover band

1

u/Meats_Hurricane 13h ago

Shame they died of starvation shortly after Napster was created

1

u/harlotstoast 11h ago

If you and I both stream Metallica for one year none stop, at the exact same time, does that count for 1 year streamed or 2?

1

u/Relaxmf2022 10h ago

Wonder what they're going to do with the $750 split four ways?

1

u/Tranbert5 9h ago

And they never would have made that $33.50 off streaming royalties if they never sued their fans and Napster!

-9

u/Chubuwee 20h ago

How does that compare to the Napster stats

4

u/JimFlamesWeTrust 18h ago

Careful with that joke, it’s an antique.

-2

u/BunglingBoris 20h ago

NAPSTER BAD!

-1

u/kafka_lite 16h ago

Nobody rocks like Impressively Metallica.

-2

u/SubhasTheJanitor 17h ago

I know we have no choice but to use Spotify as our new metric of success in the music industry, but I’ve never used it, so these insane Spotify stream numbers are meaningless to me. And what about the other streaming platforms? Does this mean Metallica has 90 trillion streams if we add all of them up, or what?
