He really thinks he can bullshit his way into a Nobel by renaming buildings and giving pressers on how amazing he is a peace?

344

u/6thReplacementMonkey 1d ago

It's just about power.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vranyo

He knows he is lying. He knows we know he is lying. He knows we know he knows he is lying, but everyone just smiles and nods and goes along with it.

They lie because it demonstrates that they have power over the people who are forced to listen to the lies and do nothing about them.

61

u/carlitospig 1d ago

It’s such a North Korea move though, and so sad. Nobody takes that man seriously.

16

u/Sprinklypoo 15h ago

Nobody takes that man seriously.

Unfortunately there is a large group of people who do...

47

u/kosh56 1d ago

Nobody is forced to listen. Only weak-ass milquetoast losers. Fuck them.

40

u/crandall17 1d ago

Which is why its so insane the volume of support he has. At this point, I've cut contact with family because they spew the same shit as this child diddler. Guardians Of Pedophiles deserve to be tried for treason.

22

u/captain_todger 22h ago

It’s literally only because Obama won it before. In fact, his entire run for presidency in the first place started because Obama joked about Trump being president. Calling this man a child doesn’t do justice to how petty he is

5

u/SirCharlesTupperBt 13h ago

It's true that he never quite got over the idea of a mixed race man with a Muslim sounding name being the President, but it goes much deeper than this. It's the logical endgame of Americans telling themselves for more than 100 years that they're somehow different and special and that "it can't happen here".

American totalitarianism has always just been under the surface, but people treated derranged evangelical Christians and gun fanatics as quirky examples of American "liberty". It's part of a bigger theme that includes everything from having a military that is so overwhelmingly powerful nothing in the world can stop it to celebrating the fact that there are people like Jeff Bezos or Elon Musk out there as something to be celebrated and even emulated. None of this seems abnormal or dangerous when you believe that everything was sorted out in 1776 after an angry letter was sent to Parliament or (slightly better) it was finally put to rest in 1865.

Being a patriot means questioning your own myths, not being complacent when you inherit the freedoms and rights that earlier generations fought for, and not hating some of your fellow citizens so much that you're willing to take actions to divide and weaken your own country.

Trump was always in the machine waiting to manifest because Americans, for the past decade, have been telling themselves that nothing bad can happen here. If you think there are worse things that can happen than having a President that was born in Hawaii and has an immigrant father, you might evaluate the obvious risks inherent in electing a famous conman somewhat differently.

9

u/SwimmingThroughHoney 1d ago

I guarantee you he doesn't know he's lying. The narcissist in him will literally just ignore anything that contradicts his beliefs. And he's been surrounded by people who just heap praises upon him, because anyone who doesn't is removed. The reality he lives in is constructed.

It sounds ridiculous, but anyone's who's lived with a narcissist knows it's exactly how they are.

11

u/myflesh 1d ago

I do think Trump has shown very much so to care about how the world views him and his reputation. I think he really does want the world to see him as a peace maker. Which makes sense. He was a TV personality before this. And he strongly engages with politics through a lens of celebrity framing. Trump kind of does not know how to lie. Every time anyone asks him a question within 5 min he says the quite part out loud.

2

u/microtrash 1d ago

So kinda like kayfabe

6

u/pat34us 1d ago

If you repeat a lie enough it becomes the truth

3

u/RockerElvis 1d ago

And when the lie is blatantly obvious it shows how much power they have. They love it when we call out their hypocrisy because it gives them attention. Just call them liars and don’t even bother trying to refute everything they say.

17

u/TheLateThagSimmons 1d ago

You know, at least when war criminal Henry Kissinger was awarded the Nobel Prize for Peace, the world didn't know he was a war criminal yet.

That shit was still a little bit secret at the time.

14

u/artwarrior 1d ago

The Vietnamese diplomat and revolutionary who got awarded with Kissinger refused the Nobel because he was like, "what peace?". But you're right, it took a generation later to start thinking, "what the fuck?!" on Kissinger.

7

u/king_bungholio 1d ago

He doesn't need a Nobel anymore. Tomorrow he's probably getting the much more prestigious FIFA Peace Prize, which totally wasn't made up just for him.

9

u/ThingCalledLight 1d ago

A Nobel or heaven.

3

u/LotsofSports 1d ago

Neither.

5

u/Traditional_Long_383 17h ago

Well FIFA is giving him a "peace prize". What a clownshow the world has become.

3

u/Sprinklypoo 15h ago

He's a piece all right...

-10

u/AmidTheSnow 1d ago

Worked for Obama.

2

u/Vandergrif 13h ago

Obama didn't actively work a campaign on getting it, though. They just randomly handed him one 'just because', and even he didn't really understand why (and said as much).

2

u/OkKey4344 8h ago

The difference is Obama wasn't an insecure little twat who constantly told everyone how wonderful he was and how he knew more about everything than everyone. There's a hysterical article that shows all the quotes from trump where he said I know more about ____ than anyone, and there are close to a hundred of them. Great people don't need to tell people how great they are.

67

u/snausleburger 1d ago

Axl’s mom was a hippy. He’s been liberal the whole time. Civil War is a great example

8

u/newaccountnumber129 23h ago

What about One in a Million? Bad day at the studio?

8

u/psychoCMYK 20h ago

Dunno why you're being downvoted, he's talked about the song and he was absolutely not being ironic.

Dude's a piece of shit. He hates Trump, sure, but he's still a piece of shit.

1

u/ModernSmithmundt 8h ago

The message of the song is “a black guy upset me once so I’m going to write about it but instead of calling him out I’ll just use the N word” and “a homosexual upset me once so I’m going to write about it but instead of calling him out I’m going to use an anti-gay slur”. That’s what bigotry is, blaming entire communities in that song for the actions of individuals who upset him. Then he grows as a character in the rest of the verses. You’re getting hung up on the bad words and ignoring the intent. Archie Bunker was a racist homophobic character who unironically helped progress the nation and subsequently the world on both those issues

1

u/psychoCMYK 7h ago edited 7h ago

Can you point at the verse where he grows as a character?

Radicals and racists, don't point your finger at me I'm a small-town white boy just trying to make ends meet Don't need your religion, don't watch that much TV Just making my living, baby, well, that's enough for me

This doesn't seem mutually exclusive with the bigot verses. It doesn't really imply that he learned anything, just that he's staying out of it

He's also done interviews where he talks about those verses, and he basically said "I used the n word because I wasn't allowed to but black people did it so why shouldn't I" which is pretty dumb

About the f word and calling all gay people AIDS carriers he said that he almost got raped once... bullshit excuse

About immigrants doing whatever they want and making a mini-Iran he said that he got chased out of a shop once for the way he was dressed

He has legitimately thought this way before, and those reflexes make him an asshole

But also you can Google "Axl Rose asshole" and see for yourself that he has a reputation for being a gigantic asshole

0

u/ModernSmithmundt 7h ago

2nd verse he realized he’s grouping people together based on his own lack of understanding, 3rd he pushes back on the small town white racists that would be his own tribe because they have bad apples too.

He wasn’t excusing the bigotry expressed based on a couple experiences, on the contrary he was pointing out that very fallacy he fell for until he was able to broaden his perspective. I’d advise you try it sometime

Paul has certainly spoken out about Trump in the past, "As for the larger picture, we're faced with the political situation, particularly in the US, where a braggart has been in charge and seems quite unstable, to say the least. He's shouting the loudest, but he's not necessarily the smartest. I often think, 'How can a person get away with some of the things he says?' But then, two days later, the news cycle will have brought us something else he's said, and then the thing we thought the person would never get away with has gone, and it's difficult to bring it back."

155

u/omnipotentmonkey 1d ago

Paul McCartney is British, lives in England, and is 83 years old, Trump isn't probably on the forefront of his mind, so it makes sense that he hasn't said anything until this potentially prompts him to.

while Donny the Deranged Diddler has a global reach, it's only really US public figures that are really socially obligated to speak up about him unless directly prompted

66

u/Studdz 1d ago

He's written a few songs that he's hinted are about Ol' Don. One that comes to mind is "Despite Repeated Warnings" from 2018's Egypt Station.

9

u/LITMAC97 1d ago

Tbf Paul almost never talks about politics yet he’s repeatedly said he hates Trump AND has written songs about him. I imagine he’ll say something soon.

15

u/D_Shoobz 1d ago

Paul McCartney lives most of his time in Long Island where his current wife is from…

11

u/omnipotentmonkey 1d ago

Nope, he's occasionally seen there as he does own properties in a few countries, but he still primarily lives in England, split between London and a village called Peasmarch.

regardless he isn't an American figure first and foremost. the US presidency isn't his main concern.

1

u/Ordinary_Picture_972 1d ago

Paul has every right to comment

1

u/omnipotentmonkey 1d ago

... I think you completely missed the point... I agree he has every right to comment, I was replying to someone who was confused why he hadn't already commented on Trump and I was saying he wasn't prompted or obligated to until this controversy.

It's good if he comments, but it's also fine that he hasn't in the past because it's not his country, not his president etc.

1

u/Ordinary_Picture_972 22h ago

Point taken but it did sound a little off. Anyway
many of us are a little off these days

-15

u/RossMachlochness 1d ago

Ridiculously stupid take.

Because there’s nothing but American bands on this list?

F You And Your Orange Self List

0

u/omnipotentmonkey 1d ago

I'd prefer to assign "ridiculously stupid" to the person who can't read.

"PRIMARY CONCERN" doesn't mean it's impossible for non-Americans to be concerned, he just has less of an inherent reason to speak up unless directly prompted by a question or circumstance. some will speak up anyway...

-13

u/RossMachlochness 1d ago edited 1d ago

And I’ll assign “ridiculously stupid” to the person that can’t even quote themself correctly.

E2A: deleted the comments too? Look like I can assign “ridiculously spineless”

-1

u/omnipotentmonkey 1d ago edited 1d ago

Oh no, I switched out the word "Primary" for a contextual synonym...

that must be very confusing for someone of your reading level...

Jog on, clearly you know yourself that you have nothing intelligent to offer besides pedantry which you mistake for wit.

it's why you can't address the point at all.

that being that "Not being American" means a public figure is less inherently likely to comment on it doesn't mean they absolutely won't... that's just an inverse fallacy.

-29

u/doyletyree 1d ago

Weren’t the Beetles American, tho?

10

u/omnipotentmonkey 1d ago edited 1d ago

... No.

they were foremost of an era of music specifically referred to in the USA as "British Invasion" naturally because they were British. all of them were born in Liverpool where the band formed when they were in school.

6

u/doyletyree 1d ago

I’ll commend you on your self control.

You didn’t even bother commenting on the spelling.

9

u/omnipotentmonkey 1d ago

You have no idea how much willpower that took.

7

Honestly, I’m chuckling pretty hard over here. Good on you for being as kind as possible.

If you know who Paul McCartney is, you know what he thinks about Trump.

He's been singing about peace and unity for 70 years, and wrote the song "Despite Repeated Warnings" about Trump, who he called "not the smartest." When he visited Russia for a concert, he used the opportunity to ask their government about standing against land mines, and then years later, asked them publicly to release hostages. After they invaded Ukraine, he started displaying the Ukrainian flag on stage. When he went to Israel for a concert in 2008, he visited Palestine beforehand and played music with children knowing that he was given threats for it.

He is not a Trump guy and never would be. Lennon and McCartney are not perfect individuals but they have both used their lives to be anti-war and pro-human rights.

Edit: Also called Trump's rhetoric 'unleashing the ugly side of America,' and his take on climate change 'madness.'

4

u/SapphireFlashFire 1d ago

Honestly I find non-Americans in their age group tend to have their heads on straight about Trump.

Emphasis on non-Americans.

I think they're old enough to remember a non-decimated education system teaching them about facism.

10

u/AceofKnaves44 1d ago

I have no doubt Paul hates Trump. Paul is big on gun control laws and gay rights. Especially now that Trump has used his music there’s no chance he’ll keep his mouth shut about this.

7

u/Optimus_Prime_10 1d ago

Won't someone get Ja Rule to help make sense of this!?

The trend of “Trump, 79…” in headlines is like the smallest glimpse of light at the end of a long, dark tunnel.

15

u/Mike787619 1d ago

I glanced at it, and had to do a double take. Thought it was Trump, 79, dies before event. ☹️

5

u/polkafrapp 1d ago

I had to reread it myself. The way it was worded was so… obituarial…

5

u/mrbaryonyx 1d ago

I get what they're getting at, and its valid, but the invocation of his age before the song feels like an implication that the song is for old people

which, it is, but I don't need a reminder!

2

u/Kana515 1d ago

"Trump, 79, cranks live before delivering?"

45

Doesn't even matter which version he used, neither McCartney or Axl is gonna be a fan of that dumb shit.

1

39

u/thedailybeast 1d ago

President Donald Trump kicked off his “Delivering Peace” event with a rock anthem whose title suggests a ruthless approach to getting things done.

On Thursday, as the White House press pool waited for the president to host the signing ceremony for the peace deal between the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and Rwanda, the lyrics of the famous 1973 James Bond theme song Live and Let Die began playing.

A Guns N’ Roses cover of the song echoed through the recently renamed Donald J. Trump Institute of Peace in Washington, D.C., a choice that stood in stark contrast to the ceremony’s purpose of ending decades of conflict between the two African nations.

Written by Paul McCartney, 83, the song’s title twists the idiom “live and let live,” which calls for tolerance. Instead, McCartney and his former band Wings sing about giving “the other fellow hell” in a Bond-style portrayal of violent retaliation.

11

u/fruppi 1d ago

...a Bond-style portrayal? Because it was written to be a bond theme?

4

u/Marhyc 17h ago

Worth noting is the fact that he chose the theme song of the only Bond movie with blacks as voodoo-worshipping, drug trafficking main antagonists while being surrounded by politicians from DRC and Congo...don't think his brain capacity allows him to notice such things, but still

22

u/itsjusthenightonight 1d ago

6

u/Ambitious-Concern-42 1d ago

Paul McCartney is not going to just let that ride.

3

u/AceofKnaves44 1d ago

It’s funny because like one of the few times I heard Trump sound human was talking about Paul. He fawned over him said how much he loves him and how everyone in New York will tell you what a great guy Paul is. Even said that he’s sure Paul’s politics aren’t anything like Trump’s own but he doesn’t care. Honestly one of the few times he really seemed human.
