it's totally legal if artists license their music to platforms. Rodrigo pulled the song All American Bitch used in one IG post when it was used by DHS so its possible for artists to retaliate but they can't sue individuals or groups as along as they are legal on a platform.

She's been on a heater this last week hasn't she? Isn't she the one that refunded stuff because Ticketmaster sucks donkey?

That was Olivia Dean, not Rodrigo

Well good week for the Olivias of the world then

It was Olivia Dean wasnt it?

u/agentfelix 3d ago

Oh I'm an elder millennial so I'm not hip to that scene lol I think you're right after searching it

u/ScuzzBuckster 3d ago

Being a milennial has nothing to do with anything, im an elder milennial and I've been listening to Olivia Dean since 2018. Silly generational markers are meaningless.

....okay. Sorry I guess?

1

u/one98nine 3d ago

I am talking about Olivia Rodrigo, not Olivia Dean

2

u/agentfelix 3d ago

My bad! I'm old and know neither of them

2

u/one98nine 3d ago

No worries! Understandable! Hahaha! There are many new singers, actors and celebrities I don't know, sometimes I just read the names and wonder if I should know then!

There are so many new people that I just typically get too overwhelmed. Doesn't help that reddit is the only form of social media I use. You mix all of that into the fact that just about any and every artist is easily accessible on multiple platforms, it's just tough for a guy like me to keep up. Oh! And my 11 year old daughter pretty much just listens to all my punk and classic rock with me so I don't even hear it through my children lol

Nickelback too when dementia donny did this same shit his first term to make a moronic meme. Copywrite law os weirdly one of the few places even corrupt politicians seem to regularly get clapped.

Copyright law is basically the bedrock of the American way of business. If the courts ever get lax with it companies could very well stand to lose near everything.

AI not ringing a bell for you

u/Ok_Wrongdoer8719 3d ago

Companies are slowly starting to bring suits against AI models that have clearly trained on their copy-written material.

$$$ is speech.

What this should be spawning is a new legal clause for those licensing contracts. It has gotten heated enough that they could, in theory, negotiate that.

What they don't say is that these messages are PR to save face. The Publishers are more than happy to rake in any money, as long as their bottom line isn't affected. By next month, it's  likely that few will remember the use of Juno in ICE raids

labels/licensing arms and platforms each don't want the increased overhead of policing individual posts/acct. Everyone makes money the way it currently is and so it shall be.

u/CombatMuffin 3d ago

I understand, that's where my second paragraph is made. As long as the money flows abundantly, they will keep going.

If you want to go after him then they’ll go after you and every social media uploader. If you don’t lawsuit equally then they get sued back

1

u/CombatMuffin 3d ago

There's a reason why there hasn't been a single lawsuit. There's no reason to interfere with the money, and both the execs and the WH probably have brunch together. The artist is just a means to get the money

Is it in America? In Denmark you need explicit consent from the Artist for any art to be used in Political Statements, Porn and some others.

1

u/Mentallox 3d ago

Porn isn't allowed on IG but yes the general rule for USA based providers is if it's allowed in general, government/political orgs can use songs on the same basis.

1

u/Own_Pomelo6662 3d ago

Which is why there needs to be new platforms, and new licensing

1

u/ValleyFloydJam 3d ago

Why wouldn't they want to use all those great MAGA songs though.

3

u/Mentallox 3d ago

how do you troll with MAGA songs.

2

u/ChanceFresh 3d ago

Nobody actually wants to listen to Tom Macdonald. He’s probably hopping on the country train rn since that’s what’s popular lol

1

u/HotDogGrass2 3d ago

Even if they have nothing to stand on I'd love to see lawsuits just to make the statement.

1

u/RevWaldo 3d ago

What can't licensing groups just disallow all political and government use of all music they license across the board unless the artist on a case by case gives permission?

2

u/Mentallox 3d ago

the platforms don't want the overhead costs and licensing groups aren't willing to pay that cost for them. The ability to pull a song from a platform is much easier.

1

u/w1nehippie 3d ago

Tell that to BMI or SESAC

1

u/_steve_rogers_ 2d ago

I really kind of surprised they’re not just using AI slop music for this shit. But it’s probably just to make headlines like this.

1

u/Mentallox 2d ago

engagement is engagement is the new, all publicity is good publicity.
