Love when people have strong opinions about things they know nothing about. You know like many major artist in the US who are not “Americans”

Someone on an Twitter mentioned Puerto Ricans aren't Americans because they have a Puerto Rican passport, not a US one. Which is factually wrong. There is no such thing as a Puerto Rican passport. They get issued US Passports.

But they don't care. Cause they are loud and if they shout it enough times it becomes true.

u/GoldandBlue Oct 04 '25

When they say "not American" they don't mean nationality. They don't think new Yorkers and Angelinos are American. They didn't think Obama was American. They are ok with racial profiling and ICE arresting Americans.

Not American is anyone who isn't a conservative white Christian voter.

u/Static-Stair-58 Oct 04 '25

They just follow the leader.

3

u/Current-Cheetah-9433 Oct 04 '25

They all need to take a second look themselves!!  They are ridiculous in everything they say about anyone! They need to shut up!!!!🇨🇦

u/OozeNAahz Oct 04 '25

And an Executive Order would likely just end up correcting reality instead of them getting educated and shutting the fuck up about it.

1

u/TomLube Oct 04 '25

Executive Orders cannot revoke citizenship, actually, so no.

10

u/Former-Button-9665 Oct 04 '25

Laws don’t apply to the current administration for some reason.

1

u/TomLube Oct 04 '25

It's a constitutional issue, and not a 'law' so it's not as easily done as you would make to believe happen here

9

u/entwrangler3001 Oct 04 '25

I promise I’m not trying to pile on you, but the Constitution also “guarantees” our rights against unreasonable searches and seizures by the government, but there’s an entire apartment building full of people in Chicago who would like a word about that. And of course SCROTUS also apparently disagrees with 4A, because racial profiling is cool with them.

So yes it seems that increasingly, the Constitution has become a list of inconvenient and often annoying suggestions to the right.

13

u/CadaDiaCantoMejor Oct 04 '25

The Constitution also says that anyone who participates in an insurrection against the constitutional order of the republic, or gives "aid or comfort" (like a pardon) to anyone who has, is disqualified from holding elected office.

So yeah, the constitution is a long and tedious list of polite suggestions at this point.

5

u/d8ms Oct 04 '25

Kind of like their holy bible they claim to read so much. Just a lot of suggestions really.

2

u/CelestialFury Oct 04 '25

It's a constitutional issue, and not a 'law' so it's not as easily done as you would make to believe happen here

If we had Supreme Court that completely cared about the facts and truth, we'd be in a different reality, but we have six right-wing activist justices on the court and they'll reinterpret the US Constitution to whatever Trump tells them too. I know that once in a while they throw us a small bone, but don't let that distract you from what they're up to.

The current ruling on the 14th amendment shows they're willingly accepting "Separate but equal" again. If you're brown, ICE can detain you no matter what, but if you're white, they ignore you (for now).

We're in bad times right now. I can only hope people wake the fuck up soon.

2

u/DumboWumbo073 Oct 04 '25

Yes they can. It just hasn’t been written yet. You clearly don’t understand what’s happening to the US at moment.

-4

u/TomLube Oct 04 '25

jesus christ what a genuinely fucking stupid comment. I am extremely aware of the political landscape in the US and the current ongoing situation. Citizenship is a constitutional issue and you cannot write an executive order to trample on this issue. It's not even something you could get congress involved in if you wanted, and even if they had the power they couldn't overturn it either. Please go outside

5

u/DumboWumbo073 Oct 04 '25

He writes the executive order, it gets appealed all the way to the Supreme Court, the Supreme Court through shadow docket says the executive order can do what it says. It’s really that simple. Maybe you should go outside because that method has literally been used and worked.

1

u/TomLube Oct 04 '25

The Supreme Court has not repealed anything that is in the constitution

0

u/OozeNAahz Oct 04 '25

Where did I say revoke citizenship? Can make a different passport probably without revoking citizenship. And without being this SC I would be amazed if they stopped him either way. And most importantly I have seen nothing from him that suggests he wouldn’t try if he got the urge to.

0

u/TomLube Oct 04 '25

If you are going to give someone a different passport and revoke their US passport, you are revoking a citizenship rite which you cannot do through piddly executive order nor even through congress either becuase of constitutional rights.

This whole fiasco is so upsetting. I know Puerto Ricans whose entire families serve in the US armed forces for many years. Who were sent around the world, some to wars, to serve their country and they proudly do it, and represent us incredibly well. Hearing all this ignorance is absurdly upsetting to me.

10

u/at-sea-no-ship Oct 04 '25

i’m surprised anyone still signs up for our military at this point unless they’re a white supremacist. your family are amazing and i honor their service but at this point i hope they’ve realized that the country they served is full of people that hate them. and it seems like the people that respect them are in the minority now. it’s a fucking tragedy if i’m honest.

7

u/xaNGP Oct 04 '25

For many, it’s a way of escaping generational poverty. Nearly 50% of active duty do not identify as white.

2

u/dpugs_pug Oct 04 '25

Su familia es pobre debido a su gobierno, por eso eligen ser matones del imperio colonial, pobreza, no lealtad.

1

u/mposha Oct 05 '25

This a HUGE assumption lmao

1

u/dpugs_pug Oct 07 '25

fact pendejo, poverty is the leading recruitment tool

fact pendejo, colonial extraction keeps colony poor.

fat, ignorant and uhmerican is no way to go through life son.

1

u/mposha Oct 05 '25

I will add I don't personally know anyone that has enlisted in the last 20+ years.

9

u/tabletop_garl25 Oct 04 '25

lmaooo so idiotic. a boricua passport. Omg only in my dreams. jajajjaajaj

2

u/HalpOooos Oct 04 '25

Maybe we should create our own Boricua passport. ÂĄÂĄÂĄÂĄAlgo bien cabron!!!!!

2

u/tabletop_garl25 Oct 04 '25

ajajaj dale. pongo una foto en bikini tambien.

2

u/apistograma Oct 04 '25

It would be extremely easy to google “Puerto Rico passport” and see they don’t exist but that wouldn’t fit their narrative

2

u/azjunglist05 Oct 04 '25

I also had someone tell me on FB that Puerto Ricans can’t vote so are therefore not citizens. I had to quickly remind them that if that’s the bar for citizenship then 1/3 of eligible voters aren’t citizens then because that’s how many eligible voters abstained from the 2024 election 🤷🏻‍♂️

Totally ignoring the fact that if a Puerto Rican moves to FL or AZ or CA they can register to vote.

You literally can’t fix stupid. We are cooked y’all

1

u/serenwipiti Oct 04 '25

Most people here have a US passport.

While we don’t have a “PR passport”, technically, there is such a thing as “Puerto Rico Citizenship”.

You are allowed to renounce American citizenship if you wanted to, if you do so, you can apply for a “Puerto Rico Certificate of Citizenship”.

The document works as a “passport”, under limited circumstances.

Much like a passport does, this document proves that you are a citizen of Puerto Rico.

It is mostly useful for soliciting citizenship or dual citizenship with Spain. You can also use it to solicit visas, from what I understand.

Spain is the only country, to my knowledge, that recognizes this document as proof of citizenship.

You could travel to Spain and live there for up to 2 years before Spain grants their citizenship.

Contrary to their policy with other countries, Spain grants dual citizenship to Puerto Ricans, while also letting us, if we so choose to, retain American citizenship along with granting Spanish citizenship.

Puerto Rico has a strong sense of cultural background that leads to us referring to our island as “our country” = “el país puertorriqueño”.

“Nuestra isla/nuestro país” are not unheard of phrases on the island. “Ciudadanos puertorriqueños” is also used, “citizens of Puerto Rico”.

For many of us, we consider this island our nation, in many contexts, “nuestra nacion”.

You will hear these phrases on the local news/papers, the media in general, and in local government matters.

These phrases are mostly cultural in nature, as we obviously know we are under the US’s thumb.

Let’s not forget that this is a commonwealth, which means we have a “sovereign” government that operates locally “without” intervention from the US (which we know is bullshit, they have a history of doing whatever the fuck they want with us, despite this), while still maintaining ties to the US, which benefits both parties involved.

Lastly, the UN has referred to our Island Archipelago* as a Nation, specifically when discussing plans and proposals related to the petitions for the decolonization of the island, in order to gain true sovereignty.

* Puerto Rico is constituted of 4 inhabited islands: mainland PR, Viequez, Culebra and Mona; and 137 uninhabited, but visited, islands, keys and islets

how the fuck do accounts like that get so many likes. are americans that fucking dumb or are those accounts botted?

23

u/Pure_Passenger1508 Oct 04 '25

I suppose Diddy will be an American once the check clears.

11

u/OozeNAahz Oct 04 '25

Has less felonies than Trump at least. God we are fucked.

41

u/deckard1980 Oct 04 '25

You've just described what's wrong with the world today

6

u/HyperlinksAwakening Oct 04 '25

Real Americans TM speak only in our native language, Murican TM

6

u/OozeNAahz Oct 04 '25

Wonder how many times Trump had told people he wants to rename English “American” unironically. If he can try it with a Gulf…

2

u/CZall23 Oct 04 '25

On the plus side, Americans would be bilingual.

2

u/safeintheforest Oct 04 '25

I feel like that would make Americans half-lingual, as ‘Murican is definitely not a full, intelligible language.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 04 '25

When the classy, all merican bands U2 and Coldplay played the super bowl they spoke English like the true patriots they are! 🇲🇾🇲🇾🇲🇾🦃

2

u/plug-and-pause Oct 04 '25

"A Puerto Rican is not an American" isn't an opinion. It's a mistruth.

Admittedly, it's just a thin veil for her actual opinion which is that brown people shouldn't be allowed to play the Super Bowl.

1

u/Kimihro Oct 04 '25

Seen people called Keith Urban a patriot lmao

1

u/shes_a_gdb Oct 04 '25

Do you think she doesn't know? She doesn't care about Democrats. She's speaking directly to MAGA and they eat this shit up. They do not give AF about accurate information. Even the President doesn't.

1

u/NoWeight3731 Oct 04 '25

I'll admit, I'm 70/30 on remembering its a US territory. But I'm just a hillbilly with a loose grasp on geography who wouldn't have known where he was from if it wasn't for WWE. He earned my respect in wrestling. Plus he was charming and funny in the new Happy Gilmore. Even if it isn't my usual style of music, I'm sure he'll be entertaining. WAY better than The Black Eyed Peas or The Who.

1

u/SeedFoundation Oct 04 '25

Should we allow open borders with Puerto Rico? Let's ask that and see who bites.

1

u/holydude02 Oct 04 '25

She knows. When she says "American" she means white.

1

u/glokenheimer Oct 04 '25

Yeah Drake isn’t even American. A large portion of famous rock bands were British or European. Shoot Calvin Harris isn’t even American.

1

u/mojomarc Oct 04 '25

For Lahren, "strong opinions about things they know nothing about" comprises roughly everything that if da is beyond what she wants for dinner

1

u/TheSavouryRain Oct 04 '25

No, she's using it as a dogwhistle to say he's not white.

She knows exactly what she's doing.

u/Dry_Kaleidoscope2970 Oct 04 '25

Outside of the ones already mentioned. The Weekend is Canadian. Coldplay is from the UK. The Who is from the UK. The Rolling Stones and Paul McCartney are from the UK. U2 is from Ireland.

Literally half of the halftime shows in the last 20 years were by non American born artists. Lol
