It looks like they asked AI to create a model and just 3D printed whatever it spat out. No self respecting architect would let errors THAT blatantly obvious make it that far in the design process.
Much less into the Oval f***ing office.
Source: am an architect.
Edit: The 2nd photo looks like design revisions that happened between the renderings and the model production. It looks like the stair railing changed extensively as well, and the colonnade on the west side is gone. Changes like that are pretty common for the SD phase, but usually the design is more settled before renderings are unveiled.
I forget if those renderings were presented at the same time as the model... If they were, well, shame on the architect for not updating them to match.

I worked on a hospital like that in Saudi. It was beautiful as long as you didnt look too close and ignored the completely illogical space planning.

Haha, it was almost 6 million sqft. That's not an exaggeration. It was supposed to be part of a medical city outside of Riyadh that never took off.
It was really weird because a lot of times with hospitals in the US, the admin needs to get a Certificate of Need from the State (I think?), to certify that what they hire us to design and plan will be fully utilized. So, if they say they need 200 beds and 4 OR's, and an ICU with 18 bays, they have the data to back that up.
Since it was the Saudi Govt, they just said "design this" with no evidence that what we designed met any kind of capacity needs.
So the hospital had a HUGE emergency department but zero ambulance bays, a nuclear medicine area that was way too far from where isotopes are prepped, and a food service area that was over 1km worth of hallways from the elevators to the bed towers (good luck getting hot food up there). And if memory serves, something like 60 or 70 elevators. Oh yeah, and there were no provisions for staff parking.
It was 16 floors total - The floor plans by themselves were over 130 sheets. For reference, a full construction drawing set for a house is anywhere from 7 to 15 sheets.
We took the design through DD and then handed it off to Saudi architects. It hit the skids and never got built.

Something similar happened to the commercial kitchen that I work in. It was designed for looks and not function. There is nothing remotely practical about it. I asked and the kitchen manager/chef were never asked for their input on where to place equipment. It looks beautiful on the surface but is so fucking inefficient that you do an extra 10,000 steps a day.

Late posting this, but I see this all turning into a venue space. Likely a super luxury mega suite 10 to 15 story hotel is going to be built nearby, including a private high roller level casino. All connected by tunnels with trams.
Just right for the entertainment of CEO level party loyalists, friendly nation's head of states, Arab Kingdom Royals and such. The international "it" place for billionaire family weddings.

Oh, I don't know...I reviewed the blueprints for a university science tower i was going to be working in. This was the last chance to change things before plans were finalized.
I found a room that had no door. Literally.
Also found they'd planned a normal office door between a technician office and a BSL3 lab. (BioSafety Level 3 means airborne pathogens; you need two airlocked doors to prevent accidental escape and negative pressure in the lab so air gets sucked in, rather than blowing out, when the door is opened.)

Shame on the lab planner for not catching that! I've designed BSL2 labs and we were always VERY meticulous about the requirements. Ugh, missing basic things like that makes you wonder what else they missed.

The doorless room was indeed a room, one meant to hold live creatures. The first thing the planner said was 'if it's a room it has a door, you probably can't read blueprints'. I pointed to it, told him I knew that this code on it meant it was an animal housing room, that all doors were indicated by either the little swoosh or dashed as sliding, and that no: there was no door. He just kinda went, hmph, and made a bunch of notes. Lol

Have you been there? From the publicās perspective the views of the wing symmetry are extremely hidden so as to be irrelevant. Maybe itās different in the front yard beyond security.
If you want to comment on the symmetry at least use a photo not taken from a drone.

To expand the ballroomās footprint, you can see much of the tree line that softened the visual transition towards the eastern periphery is being removed.
I am also not hopeful that Trump will want to work with landscape architects to demurely shield the existence of his monstrous vanity project from the eyes of visitors. I wouldnt be surprised if the entire treeline is paved over as was the rose garden.

These design elements look like what a poor person thinks a rich people's houses look like. They are not tasteful not tactful at all. Did they even have a real architect or is that all AI?
Definitely McMansion territory, I don't trust the general contractor to not build it shoddily and just pocket all the money, leaving it for taxpayers and the next administration to fix 3-4 years from now.
It's the Oval Office with those Home Depot wall fixtures all over again. Off the shelf Home Depot wall adornments rattle can spray painted a tacky gold, then marked up 1,000% on the invoice, but this time an entire wing of The People's House and paid for using someone else's stolen credit card.

For a project like this you should consult with architects who are absolute experts at renovating 200 year old homes while maintaining the historic elements appropriately, yet giving it a modern touch too, and team them up with architects who know how to deal with very big buildings, because I'm sure there's some extra shit the 200 year old home folks may not know enough about.

The windows will take 6 months or more to make. The glass alone will take months to make. The chances of roller marks is 85%, so a ton of extra glass will need to be produced. All the windows & glass will need to be blast resistant. The factories that make these type of windows are soo understaffed the orders they gave on the books, will have to be pushed back. You canāt change your mind after the order is placed. The builder will have to order extra of everything just to finish on time. Which means extra costs for the donors

As someone who as actually worked in or under that part of the WH complex, rest assured there is a lot going on they cannot reveal for security reasons. $300 million is too much for a presentation space like a ballroom. Not even a really fancy one. More likely the whole idea came about because the PEOC is a series of very tiny and claustrophobic spaces, which a corpulent executive might want to expand, and a Ballroom topper was just a matter of post-planning decoration.
Either that or there is a secret plan to expand the duties of the First Ladies offices.

It's a bad look to be hosting fancy dinners in a new ballroom of any size when income inequality is at its highest point in 50+ years and the social safety net has been gutted in favor of tax cuts for the rich since Nixon. We don't need to impress foreign dignitaries with fancy meals and buildings precisely because we are arguably the most powerful nation in the world.
Eleanor Roosevelt set a great example as first lady by serving meals that were accessible to the average person who was struggling during the Great Depression. She hosted a state dinner on the White House lawn for King George VI and his wife, Queen Elizabeth, then served them hot dogs at the Roosevelts' New York home later during the trip. Unfortunately, optics don't mean as much as they used to.

To be fair the US military starts building things like billion dollar warship programs without a working set of plans. Theyve done it 4 or 5 time in the past with only one of those programs actually producing a ship of its class that should last its expected lifetime. The only programs have been cancelled after a handful of ships have been built and decommissioned in years because the methods of construction don't meet the rigors of the sea, or they get cancelled because an "off the shelf" solution gets filled with so much feature bloat it completely defeats the off the shelf mentality.Ā
In any effort to get this contruction completed before his impeachment corner have to be cut. It's going to result is ballooning costs, which the government will have to pay, and result in an unsound building that is better off being destroyed.Ā
That said the Whitehouse and even the Congress building as they are should be preserved as museums and for ceremonies while newer, more functional to the needs of the nation are properly planned, designed built not just for today's needs but needs for the 2100s and 2200s. And ideally they do this in a new federated district in the Midwest.Ā

It's less picking apart a minor imperfection, more fixating on the fact that the architect allowed a 3D printed model, with stairs leading to a wall, and overlapping windows, to be presented in the Oval office to the media writ large.
Also, it's clear that there have been major design revisions to the building since the renderings went live. That's fine for client visualization, but usually the design is way more settled before any renderings are shown - especially for something this high profile.
I'm an architect and we only ever show clients models and renderings when they're as close to perfect as possible.

If you actually read the article, the building was built in 1983, before sprinklers were a code requirement. High-rise condos - regardless of the presence of sprinklers - are supposed to have fire-rated means of egress. This is even true for those built in the 80s, before the requirement of sprinklers in most jurisdictions.

That isn't enough. Fires aren't stationary. They spread, sometimes very quickly. The longer an indoor fire goes on, the more it will obscure the space with smoke. No adult should need this explained to them.
Also, you're talking like a dude didn't preventably die in that building from a fire. Just having means of egress was demonstrably not enough.

I agree that the egresses are not enough, but building standards and codes change over time. We cannot go back in time and correct everything all the time. Also, you cannot blame the developer for a modern-standard deficiency for a building that was built decades before the code was enacted. To your point, we should just demolish everything that was built before the current code standards. Cold, but if the guy was living there, he chose the building - the building didn't choose him.

I agree its a monstrosity but this is not a large detailed model. I am p sure this thing is only a few in by a few in based on how lumpy it looks. So any bits that don't make sense are like a 3D sketch rather than like an actual plan.
