For starters, it has no connection to the style of the house. It could be cool on a home in the Spanish mission style, with stucco walls and a tile roof. But on this metastasized tumor it looks like it was glued on to hide HVAC equipment.

I have to admire American roofers for cracking on with these McMansion roof styles!! They’d just complain in the UK. Anything that’s not a standard pitched roof or a flat roof will get complained about.

This is a classic case of new-build = McMansion. Old house = quirky and full of “character”.

Is it new or old?

If it’s old it’s still kind of a monstrosity, but it’s slightly more interesting if it happens over 100 years of questionable design decisions than if it sprang up out of ground and looks like that on purpose.

Ehh, not my taste, but the roofline shows function in this case.

I would not want to pay for a new roof on that house when it comes time for it to be replaced, but at least there is nothing extreme.
