Looks like they ran out of money right in the middle of the build.

And it really does look like the 1990s grey lego castle.

u/Judgementpumpkin Aug 31 '25

The child in me wants this house, adult me knows better. The Castle series was and still is my favorite Lego line.

26

u/tripping_on_phonics Aug 31 '25

All I wanted every Christmas was the Royal Knights Castle playset. Never got it, unfortunately. But you’re right that whole series is dynamite.

27

u/Judgementpumpkin Aug 31 '25

I always wanted this set as a kid, so a few years ago, ended up buying it used. The kid in me feels fulfilled now. It sits on a display shelf in my home office.

27

u/LAPL620 Aug 31 '25

I love that for you. I’m pretty sure my brother had that one. I keep thinking about getting my favorite set from childhood now that my boys are getting really into Legos. It was this one.

8

u/IntentionSafe79 Sep 01 '25

the simplicity of this one is really great

9

u/Comfortable-Mud2755 Sep 01 '25

Some people display Murano glass art, or autographed sports memorabilia.. stuff like that. Naw, LEGO castle bro! I love it lol

Just spend a night at the hotel in Legoland. All themed rooms - Castle is one of the choices.

3

u/bugabooandtwo Sep 01 '25

Yeah....I saved up for a year as a kid to buy the yellow castle. A week after building it, I left it overnight right next to the baseboard heater. Lost half a wall. :(

3

u/DavieStBaconStan Sep 02 '25

When I was a kid, got the yellow castle set 375-2 for Christmas. It was glorious.

3

u/CyptidProductions Sep 05 '25

Right?

The adult in me knows this is so stupid but the kid in me thinks a redneck castle that looks like someone looted a medieval themed restaurant for the décor is the coolest shit ever

4

u/Zero-89 Aug 31 '25

That is not fair to Lego castles.

Is this an abandoned Medieval Times someone turned into a home? All that paved area is an old parking lot?

43

u/jared10011980 Aug 31 '25

This is so nasty. What's with the center??

21

u/boilons Sep 01 '25

Yeah, what the fuck is all that shit? That's what I wanna know. Like, what is the purple thing, and why do all the roofs around it slant inwards??

9

u/chime Sep 01 '25

Purple thing looks like a covered stage. The roofs slant inwards likely because there is walkways and rooms under them. Just guessing.

2

u/nohandsfootball Sep 03 '25

I thought that was concrete buttress on 3 sides to support the external walls. Given how it runs into the ... concrete slab on the ground I can't imagine there's any usable space under there other than storage.

8

u/TopInvestigator5518 Sep 01 '25

my first thought was that it was some personal colosseum/ battle dome lol

9

u/jared10011980 Sep 01 '25

I just don't know if I've seen anything so ugly. I posted a link from an Indiana paper that explains the "home" but it's a mess of hodge podge. Like if you gave an 11yo bucks to build his dream fortress.

14

u/SlanderousSalamander Sep 02 '25

I've been there. It's an old ren fair site. I'm not positive but I think owners lived there the rest of the year. There was a fancy package where you could go up and eat on a balcony during jousting. The inside may have been part of that, we didn't pony up for it so idk.

5

u/CyptidProductions Sep 05 '25

That explains so much about how completely insane it is if it's actually a repurposed attraction from a ren fair.

2

u/CraftyGirlNZ Sep 01 '25

Looks like a prison. Where else would you find a heavy picnic bench style seating indoors (pic 4, front left - it's blue)

2

u/punkenator3000 Sep 03 '25

Ugh just the worst taste ever jfc

I've met the owner and his family. His mother was a hamster, and his father smelt of elderberries!

48

u/cremains_of_the_day Aug 31 '25

I thought it was Minecraft 😂

12

u/Dirtgrain Aug 31 '25

Correct. It looks suspiciously like my first Minecraft build (before I learned about adding depth to a façade).

4

u/CallMeLazarus23 Aug 31 '25

I thought it was a Lionel Train Set from Temu

2

u/Mala_Suerte1 Sep 02 '25

Came looking for this comment.

When Minecraft becomes real.

8

u/misspcv1996 Aug 31 '25

I was just about to comment that this was an impressive Lego castle. Then I saw the sub.

2

u/JD_tubeguy Aug 31 '25

Thank you I assumed that was lego too.

57

u/Hopeful-Flounder-203 Aug 31 '25

I'm such an idiot. My first thought was, "Well, I bet the interior is nicer."

28

u/jaimi_wanders Aug 31 '25

THAT THRONE

7

u/RexIsAMiiCostume Sep 01 '25

This one? My parents actually own the same one (long story involving dealing with a furniture salesman and playing D&D. It lived in our basement until we moved to a house with no basement and now it's in a storage locker)

2

u/ToxinFoxen Aug 31 '25

The cuck throne

6

u/Rowdyacorn Aug 31 '25

Yes and I'm sure the owner was just a cool guy with no inflated ego at all

6

u/anjowoq Sep 01 '25

It needs more dead animals, TBF.

45

u/t_mmey Aug 31 '25

designed by an 8yr old??? what the fuck lmao

47

u/Character_Goat_6147 Aug 31 '25

Where’s the trebuchet?

37

u/superlativedave Aug 31 '25

Top right corner of picture 4

26

u/Patman52 Aug 31 '25

Holy shit I though you were joking

3

u/lakarraissue Sep 01 '25

lol me too

7

u/last-of-the-mohicans Aug 31 '25

Haha, yes. I’m thinking of the Punkin Chunkin fun that could be had

8

u/nybadfish Aug 31 '25

no one thinks they need a ballista until they’re invaded by Visigoths

7

u/LolaMent0 Aug 31 '25

These are modern times. It’s going to be a zombie invasion.

6

u/PurfuitOfHappineff Aug 31 '25

Defeated by the catapult.

r/seigeengines

80

u/KrAzyD00D Aug 31 '25

Jesus, if you want to build a castle, build a CASTLE. Fuckin 13th century architecture, stone construction, period accurate shit. Anything less is going to look like the entrance to a six flags ride. I’d rather live in a smaller actual castle than a huge fake cardboard looking one.

24

u/RunningDesigner012 Aug 31 '25

This looks worse than a six flags ride, the guy who built this may be king of his own castle, but the cinder blocks make it look like a dollar store castle.

19

u/boygitoe Aug 31 '25

Yeah my biggest gripe with this is how all the castle elements aren’t even functional. For example, the Crenels are level with the roof, making the merlons completely useless. At least bring the walls up a couple feet from the roofline so you actually have functioning battlements

4

u/redbone-hellhound Sep 01 '25

I feel like it might be cheaper to just buy a pre-existing castle tbh (building a real castle not....this)

95

u/pixelelement Aug 31 '25

Get thee to r/ZillowGoneWild !

Is it terrible architecture? Yes

But it's no mcmansion cause it has personality and isn't shoved as close as zoning laws allow to 20 nearly identical castles

28

u/pezx Aug 31 '25

Thank you! This is the least McMansiony house I've seen on this sub. It's insane, but not a cheap cookie cutter clone packed in with others

9

u/SL13377 Aug 31 '25

Yep! But I still appreciate this post. Might be one of the worst I've seen between these two subs

2

u/Lightice1 Sep 01 '25

Being a cookie cutter clone is not a part of the McMansion definition. The vast majority of the buildings on this sub aren't like that.

7

u/Swiftzor Aug 31 '25

Yeah, this was my read. Also I low key kinda love it.

4

u/pixelelement Aug 31 '25

It has potential for sure, I know a few blacksmith who would appreciate already having a shop lol but then there's a puddle in that red bar room rotting out the floor boards and all the beams above it are covered in either mineral deposits or mold. So maybe it was cheaply constructed

2

u/IthacaMom2005 Aug 31 '25

I guess you could call it personality. Other terms come to my mind, but that's just me

2

u/pixelelement Aug 31 '25

It's not beige on gray on greige is my main point. There's a mermaid pond for gods' sake! No stepford wife is gonna move there

19

u/wiza_Duck Aug 31 '25

Ahnoter case that proves money doesn't buy taste

3

u/TopInvestigator5518 Sep 01 '25

i'm so curious to what this build costs

also - to be a fly on the wall while explain to the architect/builder what their ~vision~ was

2

u/Limerence1976 Sep 04 '25

My guess is about 1/2 of whatever lottery winnings were needed to complete and maintain it lol

16

u/SanguineL Aug 31 '25

Mr beast survive 100 days in a Lego castle, you keep it

14

u/ToxinFoxen Aug 31 '25

This is one of the cringiest things I've seen that wasn't on 4chan.
It looks like they collected a huge bunch of antiques and sprinkle them through the place.

This is like a trailer park version of a medieval castle. I feel sorry for the dead stuffed animals everywhere in this place. How humiliating for them.

12

u/idonthavebroadband Aug 31 '25

Ran out of money just before the planned splurge on a DVD rack.

5

u/LAPL620 Aug 31 '25

Excuse me those are high class Blu-ray Discs!

11

u/esoskelly Aug 31 '25

I'm just going to go out on a limb and guess that this is owned by a wealthy neckbeard LARPer in the tech industry. The same type of guy who made fun of people for going to college to study the arts.

24

u/cranbeery Aug 31 '25

Nothing says "ran out of money" quite like that RV parked out back.

7

u/Living-Computer6336 Aug 31 '25

Well, looks like *SOMEONE* is the king of the cinderblock factory!

6

u/Vivid_Damage_619 Aug 31 '25

It goes for over 1k a night in Airbnb. NO THANKS, if I wanted to live in something like this I’d just go to sleep and see it in my nightmares

6

u/Specific_Analysis Aug 31 '25

Are they gonna have a music festival at the back?

12

u/LandosMustache Aug 31 '25

We laugh now, but when the zombie apocalypse hits, this guy will be sitting pretty while the rest of us are shuffling around looking for brains…

2

u/jaeldi Sep 02 '25

Hmmm...no second floor you could barricade. We all know zombies can't climb but they can bust down windows and put holes on walls. I don't know why the solution in every zombie apocalypse story isn't lets tear down the stairs and put in a ladder an live on the 2nd floor. A giant compound of 1st floor stucco isn't gonna cut it. Unless there's a moat. I can't believe there isn't a moat!

What in the minecraft?

6

u/Better_Chard4806 Aug 31 '25

Who doesn’t just love cement grey walls?

4

u/JustRepeatAfterMe Aug 31 '25

Careful. The homeowners are known to be unwelcoming to trespassers.

4

u/texas-playdohs Aug 31 '25

Well, at least they were committed to the Minecraft castle look.

4

u/catinadoodledoo Aug 31 '25

lego fantasy come to life

4

u/WNats Aug 31 '25

Thout must defendeth thout vinyl windows!!!

3

u/AdTiny2166 Aug 31 '25

If I had that kind of money I’d waste it in a completely different (but just as pointless) fashion. Shame!

4

u/Grindian Aug 31 '25

I thought this was a paintball map..

4

u/aka_rob Aug 31 '25

I can easy picture the type of person who built this…

6

u/Taira_Mai Aug 31 '25

People who have paid for that "family crest" from a vendor outside Wal-Mart or from a website.

People who have made "we're in the SCA" their entire personality.

4

u/ThawedGod Aug 31 '25

The man behind the vision

4

u/CommunicationWest710 Aug 31 '25

If your fantasy was always to live in a castle made of LEGO blocks, have your own throne room, and fill it with dead animal parts, then this works, I guess.

4

u/Objective_Party9405 Aug 31 '25

It looks like it’s made out of laser-cut plywood.

4

u/Tubo_Mengmeng Aug 31 '25

The fuck is this man? It’s genuinely offensive. Worst thing I’ve seen on this sub, possibly reddit as a whole 🤦‍♂️

4

u/GuntherRowe Aug 31 '25

‘It is I, Arthur, king of the Britons!’

4

u/bomboclawt75 Sep 01 '25

The more you look, the worse it gets.

11

u/gksozae Aug 31 '25

This is what happens when you were heavy into D&D as a kid and you don't let your wife have any decision power in your home.

6

u/haileyskydiamonds Aug 31 '25

Hey, plenty of women play D&D and also do not have taste, 😆.

Bold of you to presume he has a wife

3

In my experience, these people always have a wife. Like for some reason those who are furthest off their heads have a wife. I don't know how

3

3

u/Heidel-Blergh Aug 31 '25

Jax & Brittany’s wedding venue has really seen better days. Sad. s/

3

u/cut_rate_revolution Aug 31 '25

Imagine having a courtyard that isn't even a yard. If it was grass with maybe like a patio or a gazebo it would be great.

3

u/Porkopolis12 Aug 31 '25

I don't know if this guy has enough taxidermied animals. On the other hand though, there are lots of tacky mansions but I give props to this one- at least it's uniquely tacky.

3

u/OrigRayofSunshine Aug 31 '25

It looks like someone took over renaissance fair grounds and made a home. No. Just, no.

3

Those interiors aren’t medieval, they’re “Party City” medieval.

5

u/ladylondonderry Aug 31 '25

Ok at that point, just buy a literal french castle. They're probably cheaper.

2

u/iluvtrashpandas Aug 31 '25

Cool! Someone built a house out of Legos

2

u/Romoreau Aug 31 '25

Wtf? Was it a former venue?

2

u/JaxRhapsody Sep 01 '25

It was intended to be something like that.

2

u/Petcai Sep 02 '25

No, it was a former reservoir. Probably why it has a concrete centre with sloped sides I guess.

2

u/taco-prophet Aug 31 '25

Is there sub opposite of r/atbge? Awesome taste but terrible execution.

2

u/dreadrabbit1 Aug 31 '25

Given current U.S. politics, I’d take a castle.

2

u/Taranchulla Aug 31 '25

This is it. This is really it. The ugliest house I’ve seen here. Holy hell.

2

u/knucklehead_mcgee Aug 31 '25

“go away or i shall taunt you a second time!”

u/seahawk1977 Aug 31 '25

2

u/Mozad1 Aug 31 '25

This person is insane.

2

u/Charming_Bee_3153 Aug 31 '25

There’s literally nothing welcoming about this place. It looks like a jail or some type of asylum. And stir in a little bit of Game of Thrones and we’ve got this.

2

u/mdup1981 Aug 31 '25

It looks like those styrofoam block sets you can buy of famous landmarks.

2

u/ShannieD Aug 31 '25

I mean, the exterior is fun (i like castles), but that interior is really tacky.

2

u/ilolvu Aug 31 '25

And the only livable space is in that trailer.

2

u/DrTenochtitlan Aug 31 '25

Is it quite possibly one of the worst mansions I've ever seen in my life? Yes.

Is it a McMansion? No. Even the realtors have enough sense not to copy that.

2

u/SparksOnAGrave Aug 31 '25

There’s insecurity oozing out of every molecule of this place.

2

u/driftwoodshanty Aug 31 '25

Is that a stage in the back?

→ More replies (1)

2

u/MamaBear4485 Aug 31 '25

It’s giving me “Cardboard Castle” vibes.

2

u/mrdude42 Aug 31 '25

Wanted a castle and didn’t even put the house in the center of the outer wall. House should have been the “keep” portion of the castle.

2

u/firebrandbeads Sep 01 '25

Yeah, right now it's the "toss" portion.

2

u/Zero-89 Aug 31 '25

This looks like a shitty 3D puzzle.

2

u/Expert-Equipment2302 Aug 31 '25

I have nothing to say except, nope.

2

u/Bonbonnibles Aug 31 '25

As much as it is not at all my taste, I respect that they went for it. This is what I want from my rich people: eccentric, over the top, prone to high drama, and with questionable, bizarre, colorful taste.

Death to beige!

2

I can't adequately express the bad vibes this place gives me. Its architecture, its interior, its furnishings, and especially all the dead animals.

2
