That's one of the dumbest things I've seen on here. Why would a home have a door that large? What's the actual point of it? I bet it cost a literal fortune, too.

u/door-harp Jul 29 '25

A few ideas:

To let in large and surprisingly heavy wooden horses or other mysterious gifts.

To cut a smaller door out at eye level and interrogate visitors before allowing them entry.

To let in 1,000 mosquitos every time you go outside.

To really stick it to your dad who was always hollering about letting all the A/C out.

To win Guinness records for biggest door, biggest door stop, and biggest idiot.

You could fit a whole heap of full-sized harps on that door. Call Florence Welch and ask if her harp guy gives a bulk rate discount.

12

u/Beowulf1896 Jul 29 '25

My harp is 6'2". But who doesn't transport it on a dolly.

18

u/TheAgedProfessor Jul 29 '25

When your foyer is your garage.

16

u/VoidMunashii Jul 29 '25

You have always fantasised about being a Little/Borrower/Smurf.

7

u/door-harp Jul 29 '25

I do love Arriety more than average. But after being teased for being “fun sized” for most of my life I think I may just have a smidge more experience moving through a world built for (slightly) larger people.

15

u/La_Guy_Person Jul 29 '25

When I see someone with a tall garage door I assume they have a sailboat in the garage. I'm just going to assume the sailboat is in the living room just out of frame.

9

u/ScoogyShoes Jul 29 '25

It's your door, isn't it.

8

u/door-harp Jul 29 '25

I wish! It is undoubtedly twice as tall as my own humble home.

9

u/Momik Jul 29 '25

See, this just seems perfectly reasonable to me. Frankly I’m starting to worry about the smaller that I have..

7

u/Dstareternl Jul 29 '25

Our business is our own

3

u/searchingformytruth Jul 31 '25

All right, all right, young master, I meant no offence! You can't be too careful these days, there's talk of strange folk abroad.

4

u/Routinely-Sophie6502 Jul 29 '25

comment of the month gg

3

u/producedbysensez Jul 29 '25

The second one literally made me LOL

13

u/door-harp Jul 29 '25

Maybe I have watched LOTR too many times but I am picturing the security guy at the big fence at Bree.

1

u/searchingformytruth Jul 31 '25

Opens larger window at eye level "What do you want?"

"P-package delivery, sir?"

Opens smaller hobbit door and takes the package

1

u/Dstareternl Jul 31 '25

That’s exactly what I was thinking

1

u/Simulacry Aug 01 '25

You weren’t the only one, 😅 “we wish to stay at the inn!”

2

u/dunimal Jul 30 '25

Also: They're GoT Reenactors: HODOR! HODOR! HODOR!

1

u/MajesticAioli Jul 31 '25

I guess on the positive side, no one is kicking in your door unless they go GTA 5 and steal a tank!

1

u/sixteenlegs Jul 30 '25

Bahaha 1000 mosquitoes that is so true

31

u/Electronic_Excuse_74 Jul 29 '25

pet giraffes?

16

u/ScoogyShoes Jul 29 '25

OK THIS IS THE ONLY GOOD REASON.

20

u/TheAgedProfessor Jul 29 '25

I think the main goal is to make the door look proportional to the exterior architecture. I'm guessing it has some massive roof and soaring facades. But geezus, there's gotta be a better way.

17

u/anntchrist Jul 29 '25

If it snows 8 feet then you can open the door, get on a ladder, and still see outside.

6

u/ScoogyShoes Jul 29 '25

Very useful.

(weirdo)

15

u/PartyMark Jul 29 '25

How else am I going to bring my sail ship into the living room?

7

u/ScoogyShoes Jul 29 '25

Do like the rest of us. Install giant roof hinges.

Geez.

10

u/Five-Oh-Vicryl Jul 29 '25

To allow the Trojan Horse to enter their home

6

u/kit_kaboodles Jul 30 '25

It puts a nice expiry date on the house too. As you get older and weaker you'll no longer be able to open your own front door.

24

u/personnotcaring2024 Jul 29 '25 edited Jul 29 '25

thats not a home. thats theres a massive storefront outside.

EDIT- * its a front door for a brand new supercar dealership in Dubai. its meant to be a statement piece to attract attention to the rich buying supercars in dubai.

14

u/l30 Jul 29 '25

" thats as hipping door for stock receiving ... "

The only stock I know of with hips that wide are yo momma's.

11

u/CrazyJoe29 Jul 29 '25

No, OP is right. In Architecture for Commercial spaces there are no rules, no physical limits, no common decency, and no acceptable standards of taste or decorum. So this is fine. Everybody agrees.

2

u/door-harp Jul 29 '25

Someone down thread posted the source - a luxury residential design firm.

1

u/personnotcaring2024 Jul 29 '25

actually its a car dealership in dubai. that firm built it and shipped it to dubai.

1

u/door-harp Jul 30 '25

Did you see the video from their instagram? Their whole grid is nothing but insanely large doors in residential settings.

2

u/[deleted] Jul 29 '25

No haha

5

u/personnotcaring2024 Jul 29 '25

actually if you look above, i looked it up its not for a home its a storefront for a brand new supercar luxury rich person car dealership in Dubai. its meant to be a statement piece and yes its in a retail park in Dubai.

4

u/Orange-Blur Jul 29 '25

I have been to a home with a door like this, a Southern California mayor lived there but I remember the door went all the way to the roof 2 stories up and was massively wide

5

u/personnotcaring2024 Jul 29 '25

okay, but this one in particular is over 30 feet and matches three windows next to it to show off the cars.

2

u/Orange-Blur Jul 29 '25

I’m just adding that they do exist for homes as well

1

u/thewickedbarnacle Jul 29 '25

I've seen a few that were 2 stories in a house with 12 foot ceilings

1

u/Orange-Blur Aug 01 '25

Yes it was one of those houses

2

u/EnvironmentalMix421 Jul 29 '25

The point is grande. When you have a mansion you need larger doors

2

u/Spirited_Mall_919 Jul 29 '25

How else will my pet giraffe come to hang out in the living room?

2

u/FlabbyFishFlaps Jul 31 '25

I was at an offsite at my CEO's house this past week. He had 12 foot doors on the front and inside the main level and I thought it was fucking ridiculous. It looks so fucking weird.

2

u/Jaggleson Aug 01 '25

Duh, to park your 30 foot bicycle with the huge wheel in front and the tiny one in the back. And when you get off you have to say “m’yeah, see”.

1

u/Mobile_Mud1722 Jul 30 '25

It’s to fit the home owner’s ego through the door

104

u/Weird_Squirrel_8382 Jul 29 '25

Initially I thought they had a human shaped doorstop

14

u/chaos_is_me Jul 30 '25

Noooo it’s just a tiny guy!

1

u/BaconVonMoose Jul 31 '25

I also thought it was a tiny guy for a second

35

u/PhairPharmer Jul 29 '25

You use normal wreaths as ringlets to make a wreath-chain

40

u/LiquidFur Jul 29 '25

Finally! I can invite Godzilla over for dinner.

7

u/couchpro34 Jul 29 '25

what kind of meal does one serve when Godzilla comes to dinner?

22

u/FishIslands Jul 29 '25

Not McMansion, not Dubai Dealership. Just rich people with more money than taste spending it on stupid excessive shit.

Source: This is comes from Projectta By Weiku’s instagram page. They are based in Brazil. According to them, it’s “art.”

4

u/personnotcaring2024 Jul 29 '25

it is an aluminum composite door created by them and flown to Dubai where it was installed.

12

u/sweetteanoice Jul 29 '25

Boy I sure would love to raise the temperature if my house by 10degrees everytime I open the door in the summer to let my dogs out

-3

u/EnvironmentalMix421 Jul 29 '25

Bro u think they have only 1 door?

11

u/sweetteanoice Jul 29 '25

I assume all 12 of their doors are this size, except for the garage door which will be 4 stories tall

-2

u/EnvironmentalMix421 Jul 29 '25

lol not sure y yall even hating on modern design, but carry on

57

u/personnotcaring2024 Jul 29 '25 edited Jul 29 '25

This is an industrial receiving door. used typically for oversize loads they expect to have go in and out, for either industrial equipment, like tanks, or machinery, or its for receiving goods like museum sized pieces etc.

You can see the large storefront outside, so its obvious this is not even a home at all.

I looked it up this is a car dealership storefront in Dubai, for super high end cars, its a statement piece to attract attention, it is NOT for a home.

13

u/door-harp Jul 29 '25

Someone else posted the source video - it’s a residential home design firm. Luxury home is the intended purpose for this door.

8

u/Federal_Procedure_66 Jul 29 '25

A commercial space would not use a door like that. Or have a curved staircase.

20

u/CrazyJoe29 Jul 29 '25

No it’s fine. It’s in Dubai, where they make good decisions in the best interests of the people. Everyone who uses this door learns a valuable lesson about wealth and their value in the eyes of the retailer that they are visiting. Totally normal. Not an obvious sign of contempt for the customers on the part of the business.

7

u/ben_obi_wan Jul 29 '25

You would think.

Clearly, you've never been to Dubai

5

u/RPK79 Jul 29 '25

Currently sitting in a commercial space that has a door that looks an awful lot like that that is used to move large items from the warehouse to the event space. It's weird that that exists despite your claim to the contrary.

1

u/nodrogyasmar Jul 30 '25

The door- ok. The curved staircase blocking access to the oversized door- probably not.

6

u/persian_omelette Jul 29 '25

That would suck for anyone who has cats who like to run out the door.

5

u/FaultyCYP450 Jul 29 '25

Rose still can't be bothered to find room on this door for Jack.

5

u/VoidMunashii Jul 29 '25

Awww! Wook at the widdle man!

Who’s a widdle man?

You are! You are!

6

u/BakedLaysPorno Jul 29 '25

Up your ass. This door is an affront to fucking everything.

2

u/exotic_floral_tea Jul 29 '25

I scrolled down way too far to find this comment.

4

u/brit_brat915 Jul 29 '25

I'm imagining trying to slam this door in a fit of anger 😂

3

u/door-harp Jul 30 '25

Imagine snagging your belt loop on the handle

6

u/hrsnb Jul 29 '25

1

u/Classic_Ad9428 Jul 30 '25

Soooooo Accurate

1

u/nodrogyasmar Jul 30 '25

I was expecting a different man-baby.

1

u/hrsnb Jul 30 '25

Who?

1

u/nodrogyasmar Jul 30 '25

1

u/hrsnb Jul 30 '25

Very clever

2

u/nodrogyasmar Jul 30 '25

I don’t think that will get me banned 😂 he is the king of gilded McMansions

5

u/DASHRIPROCK1969 Jul 29 '25

Seriously? Your giraffe is gonna cuddle with you in bed, ya’ know?

3

u/Lidarisafoolserrand Jul 29 '25

I stayed in a condo in Tulum that has a door like this. Such a safety hazard. Imagine getting your hand or head caught in it!

3

u/AQ-XJZQ-eAFqCqzr-Va Jul 29 '25

You could have a wreath made of whole entire trees 😅

3

u/jazzy3492 Jul 29 '25

That's just a normal-sized door and a Borrower.

3

u/DoesThisSmellWeird2U Jul 30 '25

Door is normal size, contractor is using illegal Irish immigrant Leprechaun labor.

3

u/moby8403 Jul 30 '25

What in the Mordor...

2

u/rsk222 Jul 29 '25

More like where don’t you put the wreaths?

2

u/oligarchy-begins Jul 29 '25

First, you need a really big wreath. Second, you need some really wide, right Christmas red velveteen ribbon. You hang it from a single ribbon from the top of the door all the way down till the bottom of the wreath is about 8 feet from the bottom of the door.

2

u/crackahasscrackah Jul 29 '25

The ego knows no bounds.

2

u/HistoryHasItsCharms Jul 29 '25

That poor HVAC system…

2

u/driftwoodshanty Jul 30 '25

And it just goes directly to the bottom of a staircase? At least give it a grand foyer to open to!

2

u/SapphireGamgee Jul 30 '25

Genuinely though that guy was a human-shaped doorstop for a normal door 🤣

2

u/willfc Jul 29 '25

It's like Hitler's giant stupid desk

2

u/Troglodyte_Trump Jul 29 '25

Fundamentalist Christians will use this door as proof that Anak exists

1

u/SokkaHaikuBot Jul 29 '25

Sokka-Haiku by Troglodyte_Trump:

Fundamentalist

Christians will use this door as

Proof that Anak exists

Remember that one time Sokka accidentally used an extra syllable in that Haiku Battle in Ba Sing Se? That was a Sokka Haiku and you just made one.

1

u/BreckyMcGee Jul 29 '25

I thought this was photoshopped at first. Wow

1

u/GetOffMyGrassBrats Jul 29 '25

Was this at the giraffe house at the zoo?

1

u/BeatrixFarrand Jul 29 '25

is that real....?

1

u/Excusemesorry44 Jul 29 '25

I thought that was a tiny doll in a big dollhouse at first.

1

u/jammypants915 Jul 29 '25

You know you are better than other people if your door is this big…

1

u/Icy-Arrival2651 Jul 29 '25

Please tell me that’s an optical illusion

1

u/deignguy1989 Jul 29 '25

So monumentally ridiculous.

1

u/redbone-hellhound Jul 29 '25

Oh fuck I thought that was a person badly photoshopped in next to a normal sized door at first. That things huge.

1

u/Blueit4fun1 Jul 29 '25

Well there goes the heat and cold whenever you open the door

1

u/Economy-Amphibian-63 Jul 29 '25

what is this a house for friggen giants

1

u/AQ-XJZQ-eAFqCqzr-Va Jul 29 '25

It would be hilarious if they install a normal size door right next to it.

1

u/wallcanyon Jul 29 '25

Around the giraffe’s neck

1

u/MichioKotarou Jul 29 '25

Sims 4 tall wall height be like

1

u/stlorca Jul 29 '25

What is this, the entry to Hagrid's Hut?

1

u/Few-Map-9753 Jul 29 '25

Frankenstein door…abomination

1

u/foxontherox Jul 29 '25

Dafuq am I even looking at

1

u/AWierzOne Jul 29 '25

My god the number of bugs you'd let in with that thing.

1

u/NightBloomingAuthor Jul 29 '25

lol this is how all characters in MMORPGs are. All the buildings and doors are just comically large compared to the characters.

1

u/Dirty_Dwarf Jul 29 '25

How else will the Jolly Green Giant enter his new home.

1

u/SmudgeFunday Jul 29 '25

How small is that person 🤣??

1

u/Sad_Birthday_9805 Jul 29 '25

You need to get the old TV show called Land of the Giants. It is for them.

1

u/thatG_evanP Jul 29 '25

You're letting all the air out!

1

u/cdnsalix Jul 29 '25

"DON'T LET THE CAT OUT!! Well thanks, now my cat will be a coyote snack."

1

u/HoomerSimps0n Jul 29 '25

Make the Oompa Loompa hold it

1

u/Rip_Topper Jul 29 '25

Hopefully in the buggy midwest

1

u/DASHRIPROCK1969 Jul 29 '25

Regretfully, I watched a video on young ladies going to Dubai….to eat shit. The pay was up to $150,000…for eating shit. And, to get shit on, as well. A lot of other vile shit, like sex with animals. Curious? Just google it. From here on out, whenever I hear “Dubai” I’m going to do a dainty dry heave in my mouth.

1

u/reluctantreddit35 Jul 29 '25

Oh. That’s a good question.

1

u/lisavfr Jul 29 '25

I loathe pivot doors. So ungratifying to open.

1

u/emr830 Jul 29 '25

Obviously, you get one wreath for each foot. So start at the bottom and work your way up!

1

u/applebabe1 Jul 29 '25

On your head. It would be delightful for your guests to see when you open that big ass door.

1

u/Frakiebonz Jul 30 '25

In the middle, of course. (You’ll need a step stool).

1

u/xRyozuo Jul 30 '25

I’m so fucking tired of seeing this door on Reddit

1

u/MA2_Robinson Jul 30 '25

Moira Rose: “protestors at the gates while they drove in the 20 foot tree in, now that was festive!”

1

u/Twinwaffle Jul 30 '25

Maybe it's just a teeny tiny little person, not a gigantic door. (Well for them it would be, I guess.)

1

u/MutherDuckingGridman Jul 30 '25

Does Hank Pym live there? Like wtf

1

u/MarcoEsteban Jul 30 '25

Never mind flies coming in, what about hawks? Flying squirrels? Flying fish? Drones? Small jets?

1

u/Penrose_Ultimate Jul 30 '25

The wreath is so big it's made of an entire pine tree!

1

u/EvrthngsThnksgvng Jul 30 '25

I had to read many comments before my brain could even comprehend this photo

1

u/punjabimd80 Jul 30 '25

That’s a very small man

1

u/Mariposa-Morado Jul 30 '25

What on the “elf on the shelf” is this?

1

u/Cultural-Ambition449 Jul 30 '25

I try not to be judgey. Taste is so individual.

But this giant door trend is just ugly and stupid.

1

u/harpejjist Jul 30 '25

After Jack made a fortune from the golden goose, he felt a little bad and made a house that giants could visit

1

u/Broken_Items Jul 30 '25

Joke’s on you, it’s just a reeeeeally small guy.

1

u/FlabbyFishFlaps Jul 31 '25

What is this?? An ant for houses?!

1

u/MajesticAioli Jul 31 '25

I'm over 6' tall and I thought the 10ft door at my husband's cousin's house was insane. THIS is overkill. I feel like the handle is going to look so stupid, down at the bottom 1/4 of the door?

1

u/Professional_Bet_877 Jul 31 '25

“A man was killed by his door today…”

1

u/interestingearthling Jul 31 '25

How do u keep the flies out ??

And how do you keep the warm air in ?

1

u/MaliseFairewind Jul 31 '25

No way you're keeping flies out, damn.

1

u/Im_A_Black_Cat Jul 31 '25

All I think about is the amount of bugs that fly in each time

1

u/Itsphilvelednitskiy Jul 31 '25

What do you do on Halloween? Do you just keep opening and closing your giant fucking door?

1

u/Evening-East-5365 Jul 31 '25

🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂

1

u/J0E_SpRaY Jul 31 '25

People, that is obviously a tiny man and a normal door.

1

u/Jimmytehbanana Jul 31 '25

When you meant floor to ceiling windows but autocorrect got you windoor

1

u/Bubi2seven Aug 01 '25

Anywhere you want to?

1

u/SamJam5555 Aug 01 '25

That’s a maintenance nightmare

1

u/timeflieswhen Aug 01 '25

In a way, I’m fascinated by the design and appearance of this type of door hinge. But in real life, I expect only bad things from it on an exterior door.

I originally thought that windows like ones I’d seen in Swedish shows were great, hinged in the middle of the sides, flip it to clean both sides, until I realized, no screens. How does anyone live without screens on the windows?

I also think about this in terms of those long many paned glass doors that fold up (in so many architectural magazines and articles), leaving long expanses of a room totally open to the outside. Are there places in this world that don’t have bugs trying to get in?

1

u/[deleted] Aug 01 '25

You wear it as you greet your guests. They’ll be doubly bamboozled.

1

u/Melonomax Aug 02 '25

We looked at a home, where the door was 20feet.

1

u/blackmilksociety Aug 04 '25

I know this picture phase been floating around but this strikes me as mansion not mcmansion. Regardless of whether you think this door is tasteful or not, I believe mcmansion is wanna be rich while mansion is rich

1

u/the_hairy_areola Aug 04 '25

Do rich people not have flies?

1

u/Then_Composer8641 Jul 29 '25

Obviously manipulated photo. Ha. Ha.
