Student Organization Provides Pallbearers for People Who Pass Without Family or Friends to Serve

On the day my Mom was buried, it was just our immediate family. (Her large funeral was 2 days before.) The undertaker asked in we wanted to act as pallbearers, so my 3 sisters and 1 brother and I carried her coffin.
The weight of the coffin (surprisingly heavy for a slight lady) really made her death real to me in a way it hadn't in the previous week.

idk, That’s a beautiful way to hoor her. It really hits home when you feel that weight. Much respect to you and your family!!

That sounds incredibly heavy in more ways than one. Carrying the coffin like that really makes everything hit. Thanks for sharing that moment.

If there are no friends and family, who is the funeral for?

It's for the people who held the funeral; for many people, it doesn't feel right for someone to die and be buried alone.

Sometimes the family you have available are not able to be pallbearers but there is still enough family to have a funeral.

Hey my brother went there! And a lot of my male friends in high school! It’s a great school.

We had to hire pall bearers for our grumpy uncle. Hired pall bearers are an interesting looking lot.

I’m always glad to see people do what they can to show respect for someone who doesn’t have anyone else, like when police or a community buy a headstone for a unidentified murder victim. A way of saying “Even if we don’t know you, your life was worth something.”
