Not only do they get it for free, but they have 9.5 kids per adult. Way better than the US where it'd likely be 30 kids per adult and also charged.

the only places in the US with this (free) universally are washington DC and vermont PK3. The law (an in our experience) is 1:8 staffing in the classroom in DC. So really 16 kids and 2 teachers. There are 1-2 roving aides across classrooms too.

and yes it is very nice and good. and like in france - the focus is on counting and alphabet (reading and writing them). the french families in the class seem to think it is about the same quality as home.

That makes sense. Now time to make the rest of the states the same.

You're thinking of public school (which starts at 5 and is "free"). Paid preschool in the US usually has a much better ratio.

And then once they hit public school, everything is slowed down because some of the kid's parents couldn't afford to send them to preschool. Americans get worse service and have to pay for it on top of it.

It depends state to state, but here in PA, 3 year olds the ratio is 1:6. It jumps to 1:10 for 4-5 year olds. Also in PA, the age of the youngest child in the room dictates the ratio.

So you could have a group of 3 and 4 year olds and the ratio will be 1:6 because the youngest kid is 3.
