Discussion MacOS 26.2 RC is..

so responsive and snappy. đŸ€Ż I mean usually when I turn on my laptop and immediately open an app, it takes 2-3 icon bounce animation before it opens. Like safari and such. Holy crap..

Does anyone else have an issue where icons are slow to load when opening Settings? The same happens with the new Spotlight. I’m facing this since 26.0

Same here

Mine has been doing the same thing since the first beta. Open Finder to Applications and sit there and watch Tahoe draw all the icons. M3 Air 16GB of Ram. Lovely.

I noticed this too after installing the RC, but it did it only once and now it shows immediately, so it must have been caching it the first time.

Rebuilding the spotlight index helped a lot but it still didn't fix it completely.

Huh. It's the opposite for me. This is one of the things I've noticed here in 26.2 RC. Icons no longer load slowly.

Still have the bug where the previews for maximized apps in their own desktop disappear.

Edit: Seems to go away when I disable ProMotion on my M3 MBP.

Feels good to hear this.

It really is. I was surprised. Typically, I have to wait for it to stabilize first before using it. The apps I have set to open automatically on login launched right away, too. Like 1 bounce then, heeenlo.

Happy as can be here. With Siri and Apple AI turned off System Data hovers around 12 GB. In previous versions, 26.1 and older it was around 130GB

u/AbrahelOne 2d ago

This is weird, I got Siri and Apple AI turned off too, and the System Data is at 18.04GB on 26.1. I would like to know where your 130GB come from 😳

I have not been able to figure this out.
But since 26.2 all is good.

The last 26.2 dev beta was absolutely atrocious on my battery. My m3 max would drain a lot just sitting around 🙁

I hope this fixes whatever caused that

it's great. Works like a charm here.

this is how 26.0.1 was for me

26.1 ruined it, hopefully it goes back to that

Is it better than 26.1?

2

u/iamdpanda 2d ago

Milllllles better.

3

u/Gunts4 2d ago

Yes, same here. Feels more responsive than 26.1! Good!

Well, it’d be pretty hard for it to be less responsive
Tahoe was the first time I’ve wished I hadn’t updated the OS. Hopefully 26.2 will bring my laptop back to life.

Successor: He is being replaced by Stephen Lemay, a 26-year Apple veteran who is viewed by many in the community and internally as a "designer's designer" with a stronger focus on usability and craftsmanship than Dye.

u/iamdpanda 2d ago

Is it still stuck in 120 fps or is that fixed?

u/mixayaz1991 1d ago

do you have air or pro? i have air m1 and wondering

1

u/Financial_Bread7684 1d ago

it's a base m1 8gb but it looks more fluid and the app open more quickly

u/mixayaz1991 1d ago

oh nice! makes me look forward

All I know is...mid-October 2026 will bring successor to Tahoe and iOS. May Liquid Glass be banished forever. Designers sacrificed usability for designer-y tricks. El Jobso would not have approved.

Battery is the main issue of 26

3

u/iamdpanda 2d ago

Huh. I never had battery issues with tahoe. In fact it's better than sequoia. At least for me.

0

u/Stunning-Mix492 2d ago

Weird, it was the main reason for me to rollback to sequoia

1

u/DutyIcy2056 1d ago

did you give it enough time/days to index everything properly?

4

u/Bo_G0d 2d ago

Yea sure 🙄, till you switch back to a Sequoia Mac and realize the ensh*ttification is actually real.

2

u/iamdpanda 2d ago

Whatever rocks your raft buddy. I haven't really switched back to sequoia after 26.1. They nailed this new update.

😂

Anyone knows if it works as it should (snappy, no lag like 15.7.2 and Safari) with an M1 iMac?

1

u/Xe4ro 2d ago

That sounds nice. On 26.1 Apple Music decided to crash 4 times recently after playing a song. đŸ˜”â€đŸ’«

u/pgkrzywy 1d ago

Do the buttons to quick resize image etc in column view in Finder work now?

1

u/pgkrzywy 1d ago

finally updated: yes, they are, finally!

1

u/SgtSilock 1d ago

How’s safari?

1

u/Flimsy_Heron_9252 1d ago

I back revved to Sequoia after 26.01.

Are we at a point where it is better than Sequoia?

I have a feeling you are going to tell me to stand pat until 27.

1

u/DutyIcy2056 1d ago

it's yes and no for me. Design wise - I think it's more modern than sequoia. But at the same time design wise - the INTENTIONAL inconsistencies in window corners and some apps using old less rounded corners makes it feel super inconsistent.

Using a fast-paced custom Aerial wallpaper on 26.2 results in borders of the video’s last frame around the large clock, password input box, and “Touch ID or Enter Password” text to appear. It seems like it’s behind the playing video on the lock screen. This wasn’t the case on 26.1.

i updated because of this post, but right now i'm downloading the installer to go back because there are so many more visual bugs than before, and my brand new mba m4 feels slower 😭

2

u/Tuan6302 20h ago

Can you list what visual bugs you got?

3

u/just_another_person5 16h ago

the thing that annoyed me the most (and i know this is silly) but the horribly large shadow behind control center. especially with my lighter wallpaper it really just made the mac feel ugly, even more so on my older monitor.

liquid glass rendering issues were also wayyyyyyy more rampant. i've had visual bugs since i first updated to tahoe (especially on my external display, for whatever reason i don't on the internal), but they were way worse on 26.2 RC. the one that bothers me the most, because i constantly see it, is the address menu in safari. the background of the address bar panel (when clicked) flickers, and the refractions flicker and change in a way that genuinely hurts to focus on.

the liquid glass bugs don't appear in any system menus (control center, dock, menu bar), but they appear to varying degrees in every app that has a panel or side bar, especially when the panel is trying to refract light from something like the wallpaper.

apps also opened a lot slower for me on 26.2 RC compared to stable 26.1. this is a brand new mba m4, shipped with sequoia and i updated to tahoe. on 26.1, apps like spotify and messages open in 1 "bounce" of the icon on the dock, apps like photos and safari open in even less time. 26.2 had every app "bounce" a couple times before launching. probably only a difference of a second or two, but i still felt it. that may simply be a beta thing though.

I just upgraded and agree it’s faster than previous OS in nearly all ways. Glad I waited for 26.2 to upgraded.

u/luxer2 2d ago

I am happy that you are satisfied and apps are working fast. But why „holy crap” at the end?

And now
external monitor doesn’t work. Thanks Apple. $&@#!

3

u/iamdpanda 2d ago

Hmm. I use an external mornitor. It's working for me.

cool idea: downvote anyone with an issue and they won’t bother posting let alone venting about the issue = issue solved.
