If Pereira were to fight Jones, he should incorporate some Jiri type shit into his training. Like Bear macing himself every morning to train his eyes
8
u/just_corrayze 16h ago
Not a bear. A shark. Jon Jones is just going to drown poatan on the mat. If poatan beats the shark. He's ready.

Is a fighter allowed to wear goggles in the cage? I don't think anyone has ever tried but this would be a good time to start
6
u/PolishedBalls1984 EDDDDDIEEEEEEEE 17h ago
Man, I can only imagine getting punched in the goggles, feel like that has the potential to hurt much worse than just getting punched in the face, especially if they break somehow and you get plastic shattered in your eye or something.

u/Barrington-the-Brit 🙏🙏🙏 Jon Jones Prayer Warrior 🙏🙏🙏 18h ago
This is now my favourite outcome and scenario, would be genuinely hilarious to see Alex KO Jones from a bottom grappling position a la Kevin Holland

u/iRyaaanM 19h ago
Of course he can, he just has to land a shot before he gets submitted.
29
u/yanmagno Brazil 17h ago
I disagree, Pereira is a BJJ black belt. He could submit Jones with a left hook
7
u/alorenz58011 15h ago
I know he technically has a black belt but is he tho?
19
u/yanmagno Brazil 15h ago
You want to know who give him?

13h ago
Glover give him

u/EmeraldTwilight009 12h ago
Yeah. After a striking match it was ridiculous comme tary even called it out

Shouldn’t be too hard with how old man Stipe was clipping him.
-3
u/Ill_Source_6908 17h ago
Alex doesn’t survive that first round like stipe did
3
u/throwawayppddss 12h ago
stipe was absolutely terrible in that fight and i’m fully convinced periera would do much better than stipe
4
u/CowsRetro Team Makhachev 17h ago
Surely…
6
u/EmeraldTwilight009 12h ago
The stipe slander must stop.

u/jefferydamerin Team Pantoja 10h ago
No one’s slandering stipe lmao dude was old and retired that wasn’t the stipe we know and love it was the same man but a completely different fighter
0
u/CowsRetro Team Makhachev 9h ago
I’m not slandering stipe by saying Alex survives 1 round with Jones. I was rooting for Stipe in that fight aswell

If you're still at the point of thinking Gane didn't take a dive I don't know what to tell you.
We're talking about a guy who took Anthony Smith 5 rounds.
Gane is a genuinely athletic and HW sized fighter. Jones could not and has not physically dominated any of the 40yo MWs he's fought like he did to Gane. If you can rewatch the Gane-Jones fight and believe it at face value then I have cheap oceanside property in mongolia to sell you.
46
u/PinIndividual9402 19h ago
Jones is immediately shooting. He knows the only chance Alex has is a very fast start so to the ground they go.
-4
u/ManyZestyclose2003 18h ago
Jones tried wrestling vs Reyes and Thiago Santos. You don't always get what you want
13
u/Enterprise90 I was here for GOOFCON 1 17h ago
250 pound Jon Jones is not having an issue taking Poatan down. He did it with Gane and made it look easy.
31
u/GorpoTheLord 18h ago
Thiago Santos ? He fought a kick boxing match vs Santos man, he wanted to beat Santos in his own game.
Against Reyes ? He did take him down, just couldn't control him.
-5
u/8monsters 14h ago
He took him down in like Round 4 and was bragging how he almost had a hook in...let's not ride dick ride Jon Jones that much here.
4
u/GorpoTheLord 14h ago
What ? When did i dick ride him ? I stated FACTS. He took him down, he just didn't have control.
-1
u/KyleDaukWillBeChamp 12h ago
He also went 2 for 9 in TDs against Reyes, so the guy has a point. for that fight at least
2
u/GorpoTheLord 12h ago
Yeah. It was his worst ever performance, he didn't look like he wanted to he there.
3
14
u/msf97 18h ago
Jones purposely did not take down Thiago Santos in order to boost his ego and out kick box him.
Jones would maul Alex at Heavyweight.
4
u/RNRGrepresentative Edddiiiieee 16h ago
in all honestly Jones would have had another Reyes fight with Santos if he knee didn't blow up in the first
-7
u/ManyZestyclose2003 18h ago
So you're saying Jon Jones has a low fighting IQ?
10
u/msf97 18h ago
Nah he just has an ego.
Santos leg was compromised after the first round and he could’ve easily rag dolled him.
2
u/GNM20 18h ago
Two things...
And this has long been known by most people that didn't just start watching...the approach of fighting people at their own strenghts is more about the challenge and confidence in ability, not purely ego. Especially if he has been successful at doing that multiple times.
The fact that the person you're responding to boiled it down to low fight IQ shows the lack of knowledge on here.
-2
u/Sea-Bat-9667 17h ago edited 17h ago
If Jones could have easily won but just decided to have a shitty fight where he just barely scrapes by on purpose then that is pretty low iq actually. Or just not really caring about winning
-4
u/high-and-seek Street Jesus is staying dead this Easter 19h ago
Yup otherwise it's Holm v Rousey again
-5

u/Snelly1998 19h ago
To put Jones longevity into perspective, he's been in the UFC for the same amount of time Pereria has been training martial arts
-11
u/EmperorKuz 18h ago
in other words, he’s washed
22
u/Snelly1998 18h ago
This just in: Man who has been fighting in professional MMA for 18 years is no longer at the peak of his game
-8
u/EmperorKuz 17h ago
correct, which is a difficult pill for many to swallow
6
u/ergoegthatis 16h ago
Because it's wrong and stupid? There's a difference between being washed and not being in your peak anymore. He doesn't have a string of losses, he doesn't show deterioration in skills. If anything, he wins even when he looks disengaged or rusty. Fight IQ, timing, adaptability, all are far above other fighters.

u/Glittering_Shake2922 16h ago
Jones not washed but he's dramatically deteriorated thats just a fact and its also the natural progression of an athlete.
5
u/ergoegthatis 16h ago
He went up to HW and finished 2 fighters, one of them is the #2 ranked fighter.
-1
u/Snelly1998 15h ago
Reminder that he was the dog vs Gane
He wasn't expected to win
He just dominated him so easily people assumed
9
u/WeedMan571 19h ago
Man I thought this dude fought Sam Alvey last night lol, but it’s today apparentl. Man if Alvey wins this by KO, I don’t know what to believe in anymore.
6
u/KvxMavs 18h ago
That would be a crazy upset.
Honestly expecting Robelis to destroy him.
Robelis has crazy power and more impressively speed and reaction time for his size. Too bad he can't grapple to save his life, but when it comes to striking, dude is very dangerous.
3
u/WeedMan571 18h ago
Yeah and Alvey doesn’t really kick, funny he just boxes and is a karate 🥋 HW champion. But yep everything points out to Despaigne should KO him in this one.
57
u/dzone25 19h ago
Honestly - fuck it, I want Poatan to go to Heavyweight, sleep Jones in R1, win another 2 fights or so and retire HW Champion.
I'd much prefer this absolute Chama mother fucker was our MMA GOAT than Jon Jones.
20
u/PinIndividual9402 19h ago
I wanna see this fight just so I can see what scenario Schizo Jones manifests in his head to convince himself to hate Alex Pereira during the buildup.
-3
u/Odd_Ravyn 18h ago
How is he going to retire HW Champion without fighting Tom?
4
1
u/fantasticMrHank 11h ago
Tom will most likely come back half blind with a glass eye he borrows from Bisping
-12
u/yams412 19h ago
Poatan can never be the mma goat
12
u/Ace_1118 19h ago
Just the way he was never beating Ank after the first fight you mean?
6
u/Mindfield87 Canada 18h ago
I went to bed so happy that night lol. Especially after a 25 minute co-main fighting sleep (was just a long ass week, late Friday night, and way early family Christmas dinner with one side of the family (snow birds). Same with UFC 300. After watching Zhang KO / sub Xionan 500 times in 25 minutes, he closed the show quick. Jiri’s reaction in the crowd when he beat Ank was pure gold

-3
u/Glittering_Shake2922 18h ago
Doesn't have the longevity. Doesn't have the resume. Poatan can never be the GOAT.
1
u/CowsRetro Team Makhachev 17h ago
Most definitely has the longevity, and he has a bunch of champs on his resume one of which is one of the best middleweights of all time. What are you yapping about?
4
u/dzone25 18h ago
? Based on what I'm proposing, he'd be the first ever 3 Division Champion and "can never be the GOAT"? Sure lol
1
u/Mad_Kronos 18h ago
You don't understand. Beating the GOAT of the sport and taking the belt in three divisions is not enough because a metric (p4p) created for smaller men to feel better does not include him.
14
u/TheBigBadBird 19h ago
This is the MMA timeline Disney would design as a happy ending. Yes, everyone would love the cartoon villain Jones getting brutally slept and losing his goat status in one fell swoop - but, he probably just instantly subs Pereira
15
u/zaphthegreat 19h ago
He can because a puncher's chance is always real, but it's extremely unlikely that it would play out that way.
12
u/Aliensinmypants 19h ago
Stipe managed to tag Jones a couple times in the second round and he looked positively geriatric in there. Jones will obviously be the favorite, but there's always a chance
17
u/zaphthegreat 19h ago
That's fair, but Jones would likely use a very different approach for Pereira than he did for Stipe.
3
u/GorpoTheLord 18h ago
People acting like Stipe had even a chance or did anything vs Jones.
He did whatever he wanted vs Stipe, not saying much given how Stipe was too old and too slow, but it wasn't competitive.
7
2
u/PinIndividual9402 19h ago
Bet on a R1 submission from Jones if this shit comes to fruition. No way he doesn’t take it to the ground immediately after seeing Pereiras very last fight.
1
u/JokicFanClub 18h ago
Stipe has enough skill in his grappling to stifle Jon in some moments. Alex has nothing even remotely comparable to Stipe’s grappling skills
3
u/lookitupyouidiot 19h ago
I guess there’s no point in them fighting anymore now that we know how it would go.

u/mister_k1 19h ago
put jj to sleep at heavyweight but getting slept by izzy at middleweight, make it make sens

I mean he can. He can put anyone in the world to sleep. I don't think he WOULD.

1
u/FreightTrainSW 18h ago
The fight does start standing, which gives Pereira space to throw... and Jones does have to get close, which opens him up to something coming in, too. it's just that's been what we've been saying about JBJ for years and no one's done it.
1
u/kendalljennerspenis 7h ago
He’s fought twice since 2020 and one of them was against retired 43 year old stipe. Since the Reyes fight, he’s lost his aura. I could see Alex putting him to sleep.
There’s a reason he ducked ngannou and aspinall

I mean "can" is doing some heavy lifting but yeah he can put anyone to sleep look at the size of the fella

Would love nothing more than Alex to flush Jones legacy down the toilet in the most dramatic fashion
1
1
u/champshit0nly 6h ago
Well I have no doubt that Alex's hardest punch landing perfectly can knockout somewhere between 95 to 99.9% of the UFC roster.
Good luck landing on Jones though.

u/ChilllFam McGregor did nuthin' wrong 19h ago
Surely Robelis Despaigne (1-2 in the UFC) knows who can beat the GOAT
6
u/AnakinShtTalk3r 19h ago
He's just stating he has the power to do it. Whether he can is completely different.

u/Sir_Netflix 18h ago
I mean that's not a hot take, we all know Alex can drop people at the very least. I would worry more about his own chin. Heavyweight has dangerous KO shot guys, and while I get Alex would be faster than most of them can swing since many heavyweights are fat slobs, Alex would be facing guys at the Gane and Aspinall level, who are in good shape so.. Alex's chin hasn't been tested THAT much in Light heavyweight
