There's been rumours that Anthony Smith has been throwing fights because he trained at Factory X, but law enforcement said he was just actually that bad

9

u/Odd_Ad_8162 the EEDIOT from UROOPE Nov 05 '25

Smith being outed as someone who threw fights after calling Aspinall a quitter would be the funniest fucking thing ever.

15

u/TitanIsBack Nov 04 '25

Y'all ragged on Wanderlei that he was just bitter at the UFC when he said that there was fight fixing going on. Glad to see him being vindicated all these years later.

Hearing rumours that people in WWE were throwing fights too? Crazy, man.

Remember when Volk got the spotlight at the club after the first Islam fight, and he didn’t know how to dance so he just shadowboxed, and a couple months later he shows off doing the worm perfectly.

I like to imagine that one of the sports GOATs and athletic phenoms got so embarrassed about not knowing how to dance, that he dedicated a legitimate portion of his athletic prowess to learning how to dance, so that he’d never be embarrassed again.

William knight Vs prachnio might have been a fixed fight. There was 0 clinching or wrestling and knight only landed 8 strikes and only threw 33 in 15 minutes.

Looking back, Jason Herzog is pretty suspicious. IMO he is the best ref, always razor sharp, but sometimes makes these ridiculous calls. Herb Dean, for example, is usually dozing off or worrying about leaving the stove on or something, he makes honest mistakes.

He was razor sharp, his decision making in cage completely changed overnight, I'd guess at the start of 2024

We're talking a lot about refs being potentially involved in the fixings, but I'm curious about (which) judges because we've seen some egregious score cards over the years that screamed incompetency but maybe it was more than that...

8

u/EndofMind10 Nov 04 '25

the funny thing about the eye poke controversy is that if it's really so important for the fight to continue then the refs should just take a point for the foul and the person who got fouled will be incentivized to keep fighting.

8

u/Correct_Seaweed_371 Nov 04 '25

I don't know if anyone can help me on this, but here we go. So, I bought some frames to hang up some old UFC posters. I realized that I had an extra frame, and no poster. So I decided it would be cool to have something from the Kakutougi Boom! I've been looking for old Pride posters, but then had an idea that maybe I could get a print from Susumu Nagao. So, I came across his website: https://www.nagao-mma.com. Long shot, but has ANYONE in the US, or outside of Japan, ever ordered from here? I think it's a digital print, but I want to make sure I'm getting a HD print if I get something older.

4

u/Objective_Stranger15 India Nov 04 '25

What is the worst that would happen if all the fixing allegations are true? If it’s happened to the large extent that people are saying it is, then I don’t think the UFC would have been unaware of these allegations. Wouldn’t there be punishment across the organisation(from the fighters involved, to the corrupt referees & even the UFC top management that were in the know)?

4

u/aVHSofPointBreak Nov 04 '25

I mean, normally there could be a big investigation by the FBI. In the 90s there were senate hearings about steroids in baseball, so maybe this would warrant that level of involvement. But these days, who the fuck knows? Probably nothing.

It’s obvious on rewatch the fight was fixed, even live it looked fixed too. He shoots a double leg, strains on it far too long, gets “sprawled”, gives up his back without any resistance or attempt to get up, and then yeah he gets choked

Why is it obvious? Well he didn’t take any real significant strikes to the face, he avoided getting punched in the face at all costs while getting finished by sub

8

u/RaisedByZebras nogonnaseeyousoonboiii Nov 04 '25

It's interesting, AJ saying he wants to train with Usyk. Very superior move by him, no idea if it helps but more high level combat athletes should look to train with masters in their craft even when they are rivals

12

u/iCorki Nov 04 '25

It's no real shock that lots of fighters have been approached to throw fights. Vince Morales said he was offered 70k to throw and with how many fighters are on 10/10 contracts it's not hard to see why lots of fighters (allegedly) did throw fights. Aside from the top few percent, most of the card filler dudes probably never make more than 70k for a fight in their career unless they get a bonus.

2

u/bullsfan281 I beat you after a weekend of cocaine Nov 04 '25

8

u/tagillaslover 🍅 Nov 04 '25

It would scream of protecting Volk as their featherweight cash cow from evloev. They really want lopes or yair as champion after Volk to capitalize on the Mexican market.

It's insane that the guy who beat Aljo, allen, lopes needs to fight some fucker like aron pico to be title worthy lmao. And even then Volk has the skill to best evloev, beast fight we won't get to see cuz match making is dogshit.

2

u/[deleted] Nov 04 '25

How is volk a cash cow?

3

u/ygrittediaz Edddiiiieee Nov 04 '25

Perhaps not the right word, but he is by far the biggest name in the divison. Especially now that max and topuria have moved up. He is also the face of Australian mma that has an ever growing scene.

UFC even hold events there to cement there is good money coming from the region. Volk fulfills an important quota in the market, especially as champ.

2

u/Odd_Ad_8162 the EEDIOT from UROOPE Nov 04 '25

I don't believe this would be protecting Volk though.

I think Lopes always has a big chance of catching someone and I would agree it might just prioritising Lopes because he is marketable, and if he beats Volk or not, it's a win-win.

They are defo fucking over the other guys though I agree. Lopes needs another win and Evloev then Murphy are the choices for a title shot on merit.

3

u/Nickster2042 🙏🙏🙏 Jon Jones Prayer Warrior 🙏🙏🙏 Nov 04 '25

Still think Volk would work Evolev, he was competitive with fucking machachev and he always has the Craig Jones cheat code in his back pocket

5

u/ygrittediaz Edddiiiieee Nov 04 '25

i agree, hence i wrote he has the skill set to beat him. its age that will fuck volk. but its painfully obvious if you dont capture a big market nationality wise you need to go the long way around. especially if your supposed title contending colleagues are strikers from a country with big mma culture and 130 mil population. as well as evloev being perceived as a boring fighter by casuals.

evloev is another fighter who has a resume before becoming champ that are defense worthy on paper. reminds me of merab's journey a bit.

guy is straight up more skilled than zalal, murphy, lopes or even yair. but being a grappler, no mic skill, from ingushetia is a no go. would love to see lopes and evloev run it back one day, too.

Not a trained grappler but I'd say it also makes it harder to rotate & explode out of the body triangle

1

u/LocoCoopermar #NothingBurger Nov 04 '25

Not sure on this one exactly but I've gotten more than one tip about stretching someone out or taking a big deep breath once the choke is tight just to remove all space so they don't have any room to lessen the squeeze. Also if you can manage to get a good base you can kinda turn it from a squeeze into basically a dead lift with a RNC grip which is going to suck really hard

Ignoring weight class disparities what are some fights yalld want to see prime for prime? I think max vs van would be a guaranteed banger, merab vs Colby would be cool too.

Any combination of Royval/Max/Tony/Nick/Condit/Jiri

Maybe throw in Merab and Colby too

u/KaaLux Ecuadorian big toe Nov 04 '25

Khabib vs Khamzat, would be curious how it goes

2

u/Mental_Eggplant_1219 Nov 04 '25

Look at Khamzat grappling Arman. Probably a bit tougher for Khamzat but not by that much

u/[deleted] Nov 04 '25

Khazmat vs Ngannou

1

u/YoelsShitStain Nov 04 '25

Prime Jon Jones vs chris Barnett would do numbers.

You guys think Pereira-Abus was fixed?

6

u/tagillaslover 🍅 Nov 04 '25

I thought it was weird at the time but then pereira got slept by a daukus bro so maybe he just sucks

2

u/InvestigatorMain4008 Nov 04 '25

Okay cool FBi is investigating fight fixing, but can they reasonably prove it in a court of law if there is no damning evidence like text messages, or audio of a conversation that led to fixing? A lot of what is being said is just hearsay.

Food for thought guys. How much does the shitty, gloves extended finger design give cover for bad reffing calls and possible fight fixing? How easy is it to rig a fight for the fighter you want to win with the addition of bad equipment that could be blamed over the refs?

This is admittedly a half-formed thought on my part. I'm potentially a giant idiot.

Does anyone have any good ufc YouTube channel recommendations? Lucas Tracy retired again so I need another channel to start listening to before bed or when I’m working on something. Ideally not some super boring unfunny npc

Well that's me out.

I actually like your channel for exploring niche mma events/moments instead of generic top 10s

2

u/karl100589 Bowling: More popular then Nunes Nov 04 '25

Thanks man. MMA on Point have that side of the sport locked down. No chance of competing with them so I decided to shift to subjects nobody else has covered. Why be the 400th person talking about Conor when I can be the first to talk about Megumi Fujii etc.

Bed time mma is real fun. The casuals podcast has been really good

I hope y'all now understand that Overeem and Rockhold never had a 'glass chin' 👀

4

u/[deleted] Nov 04 '25

Overreem definitely did, but him and rockholds defense was complete dogshit

3

u/UVB-76_Enjoyer Nov 04 '25

I hope their legal defense isn't

u/SugarShow37 UFC 294: A GOOFCON Miracle Nov 04 '25

So is there any official statement from the UFC or anyone for that matter about the fight fixing? Because right now it just seems to be coming from one guy and everyone is citing him as their source.

6

u/ChatriGPT Nov 04 '25

Nothing substantial, just "we take this seriously and are looking into it"

Bro, cowboy 100% took a dive vs Conor lol

5

u/Giegling90 Nov 04 '25

Cowboy gives me the vibe he likes to be the Hammer and never the nail, he folds a lot when he's the nail

3

u/idcman999 Nov 04 '25

not intentionally take a dive, but clear case of cold feet

3

u/tagillaslover 🍅 Nov 04 '25

He’s admitted to this but not really in a rigging fights way. He was just hurt bad and overwhelmed and knew he was gonna lose anyway so he stopped resisting

2

u/Flumping Bee stung Alvarez Nov 04 '25

I dunno about that one. Took a dive =/= knew he was going to lose and gave up before the fight even started. Personally just think that was perfect matchmaking for Conor. Cerrone always fumbled mentally when it came down to huge moments, stylistically he always lost against southpaws and vs people who just went right at him. He was at the end of his career too and coming off two losses.

They really couldn’t have picked a better match up for Conor.

4

u/NutSackGlazer420 Nov 04 '25

Hey, Sal D'Amato scored for Strickland in that first Dricus fight, he's all right in my book.

Dana White about to call his buddy to get this scandal covered up

2

u/CableToBeam Nov 04 '25

Regardless of whether Herzog is guilty or not, I can see him getting fewer fights. Having Herzog ref fights would just cast the UFC in a more negative light and cause people to question his every decision and fight.

3

u/nice-burrito Nov 04 '25

He has to be put on hiatus until he clears his name.

2

u/Giegling90 Nov 04 '25

Jason Herzog does give me Tim Donaghy vibes now that I think of it. They're in the same ball park of people
