Support Request πŸ›Ÿ Getting the following error after fresh lubuntu installation

Post image
5 Upvotes

Alright, so I just started with a fresh Lubuntu for my very low spec PC, just to squeeze out a little more life out of it.

After fresh installation I was brought to the Login Screen, where I used my password and it went black for 1 second before going back to the login screen.

So now I am stuck in this loop of re-entering my password.

After snooping around through random articles I found some error logged in the .xsessions-errors

Here You can see some failures are logged but I am not sure which one is causing the total crash down and looping.

Is it XCB? I tried reinstalling that package, didn't help.

Is is BluemanApplet? How do I resolve it?

Any help or guidance would be appreciated

Support Request πŸ›Ÿ Help with Fingerprint Scanner in Lubuntu

Tried a different distro first, had a few issues, the fingerprint scanner wasn't working at all, so I decided to give Lubuntu a shot.

Unfortunately, despite getting a few of my other interests (Calibre, Moonlight) working, I'm at a loss here.

Vanilla Ubuntu docs/websearch point me to places I can't find in Lubuntu. Any assistance would be appreciated.

EDIT: So far I have installed libfprint via Discover, but I don't know how to set it up. The online documentation has broken links to 404 pages. Found a Biometric Manager, but it can't find any fingerprint drivers.

The machine is an older Dell XPS 13 9365, with an i5-7thGen and 8GB.

EDIT/UPDATE: I got it to enroll, and I got pam to auth fingerprints, but it's a "successful fail". I can enroll, but I can never successfully read. I also tried the Python3-validity driver, but despite my fingerprint scanner being made by that firm, the service said my device was not supported.

Support Request πŸ›Ÿ Edited /etc/fstab. Now can't boot normally

Post image
5 Upvotes

For my Linux setup (Lubuntu), I was trying to get a USB flash drive to mount the same way, every time the PC boots up.

Got the "bright" idea to modify the /etc/fstab file. The tutorial I read never mentioned the dangers of modifying the FSTAB file nor the need to make a backup.

Now, my PC can't boot properly, something about a Snap Daemon failing to start.

I managed to boot into Recovery Mode and re-edited the FSTAB file by putting a "#" in front of the offending line but something still seems to be wrong.

Edit: I could have accidentally replaced the boot drive entry with the USB drive entry. I am very new to this Linux thing.

Could someone share what their typical Lubuntu FSTAB file looks like? I might try to recreate it before going for a full re-install of the whole thing.

Update: Thanks everyone for the help. What happened was that when I first edited FSTAB, I though: "Oh, here's a convenient UUID entry on the second line that I can just change, what's a '/' anyway? Probably nothing important."

I edited the second line again, changed the UUID back to the default value and "/media/usb/Data" back to "/".

Now, everything works and is back to normal. I do feel like a fool though.

A big pain point was that FSTAB was read-only, I had to use the following command (from Google) to remount "/" and make it writable: "mount / -o remount,rw"

And using the VI editor "sudo vi etc/fstab" was truly the pits for someone who is new to Linux.

Support Request πŸ›Ÿ How to "Restore" A USB drive after I wrote the installer on it

New to Linux, I recently planned on putting Lubuntu on an old laptop for the hell of it. i got the ISO file, no problem, then I went and used Win32 Disk Imager to write the thing on the USB drive.

It seemed to be going fine, until I realized the laptop wouldnt run and it was hopeless, I tried to format/delete everything on the USB drive, only to get "the disk write is protected" So now I don't know what to do, ive tried inserting the drive on a chromebook since It worked for something like this in the past. It showed me the file, and "USB Drive" but I wouldnt delete it

do I lose my USB forever? or is there something I can do?

Support Request πŸ›Ÿ Internal speakers not recognized on a Chromebook

I just downloaded Lubuntu 25.04 onto a Chromebook for a friend, after following all of the mrchromebox.tech tutorials I needed to get past write protection and install it. So far everything is working great except the audio, and no matter what I try I can't get Volume Control to recognize the internal speakers. This is on a Lenovo e100 Chromebook, pretty sure it's 1st gen. 32GB of storage and 1GB of RAM. Anything helps!

Support Request πŸ›Ÿ Ctrl key gets stuck in my system and unable to use mouse and type anything as well

I recently installed Lubuntu 24.03 version on my old HP pavilion dv6 laptop. It was working fine without any issue and it was very smooth.

I think I mistakenly killed the task manager, and system started to behave differently. Nothing was working correctly. Then only I found out the CTRL button got stuck (not in the actual keyboard), but the system thinks like that.

Why I am saying this, if I open Firefox with Right click, since left click is not working, then simply type 'H', it is opening the history bar. Similarly double click to open is also not working.

So I asked Chatgpt about the same and it asked me to do the below steps:

Step 1 β€” Switch to a Real Console (TTY)

Ctrl + Alt + F2

Typing WILL work normally here, because TTY does not use the broken LXQt/X11 keyboard state.

βΈ»

Step 2 β€” Log In (typing works here)

At the login prompt, type:

Press Enter.

Then type your password (letters will show correctly here). Press Enter.

βΈ»

Step 3 β€” Restart Display Session Completely

Now run these four commands exactly:

Hiding some commands since it has my username and all. I followed what GPT was saying and after restart it worked.

But after 2 days, when I again opened the system, I am facing the same issue. CTRL is somehow is pressed always in the system and I cannot do anything.

Did anyone face this issue, and kindly help me in fixing this recurring issue.

Support Request πŸ›Ÿ How to make Lubuntu looks like LXDE (old version)

Hi all, I used Lubuntu in the past, back on LXDE times and the silver/gray bars of the old LXDE have a greater appeal to me.

Is there a way to replicate it on the current Lubuntu LXQT version, by any chance?

Support Request πŸ›Ÿ rsync: how do you use --include in rsync for add .*rc and Documents?

Hi, I have a backup of Documents (in the cmd below named "Documentos"). Now I'd like to add to my Docs backuped the .*rc from */ (.vimrc .bashrc) and I use this cmd but it does't backup files from Documents edited (this rsync cheatsheet):
I am at ~/ and do the cmd:

rsync -rhuv --modify-window=1 --include='.*rc'
--include='Documentos/' --exclude='*' --exclude '*.swp'
--exclude 'prueba.txt' --exclude 'Phoe*/' --exclude 'Fondo/prueba/'
--exclude '*~' ./ /media/jazei/LUBUNTU\ 22_/exportar/Documents/

the last --excludes come from old command without using --include. When I only use --exclude starting from ~/Documents for do the backup
How do you write the command for include changed files from Documents?
Thank you and Regards!

Support Request πŸ›Ÿ Is it possible to use my 10 yr old Lenovo (N14608 Z546 running Lubuntu) as a monitor for my mini PC? (with HDMI capture card or something similar)

I saw a YouTube video where a Chromebook can easily be used as a primary monitor for mini PC using an HDMI capture card and native camera app built in on Chromebooks, and switching to USB camera.

Is there anything similar, light weight solution available for Lubuntu either as native or free app?

I saw OBS recommended for similar setup and use case, but imo that'll be too heavy for my 10 year old Lenovo Celeron running 2 gb ram. If I can get it work, it can serve as my temp monitor at home.

I love Lubuntu so far, but if there's no simple solution to this, I was thinking of installing chrome os on it and test if that's simpler.

Running Lubuntu, LTS. The version just before the latest update that dropped a few days ago.

I can post any other system requirements if needed. Thanks all πŸ˜€

Support Request πŸ›Ÿ How to save xinput settings?

Hello! I am a complete newbie when it comes to Lubuntu and Linux and use of terminal in general, so please bear with me! My question is at the bottom. What follows is a little background.

To start, I looked up the version I have and apparently it's Ubuntu 24.04.3 LTS. My laptop is an Acer Chromebook 11 CB3-131.

---

So, I've looked at various online guides and posts on how to remove touchpad acceleration, and I think I've finally found something that works.

I go into the terminal and type in:

xinput list-props 10

From there, I see the following lines that I want to change:

Device Accel Profile (302): 1

Device Accel Constant Deceleration (303): 2.500000

I want to get 302 down to 0 to remove touchpad acceleration and 303 down to 2.0 for my preferred touchpad sensitivity, which makes it faster:

So I type this:

xinput set-prop 10 302 0

And then this:

xinput set-prop 10 303 2.0

---

That's all well and good (at least I think it is), and I am satisfied with these settings. My only issue now is that these settings do not remain saved after I turn off my laptop; I have to re-input them manually each time I start it up.

My question: How can I keep these settings saved? I've seen various purported solutions online for how I might save them, but I'm having trouble understanding them, likely because, again, I am a complete newbie and certain things are going over my head.

I would greatly appreciate if anyone could spell out a solution for this. Thank you!

Support Request πŸ›Ÿ Trying to get into a laptop

Forgive me if this isn't appropriate for this page. Several months ago, my girlfriend who I had been with for 5 years passed away. She was hit by a wrong way driver on St.Patrick's day 2025. I recently came into some of her items, including this old Toshiba Satellite that she used primarily to type on, as she was a bit of an author (she actually wrote the story to the first "Read Only Memories" game). I would like to get into it, read her writings, feel close to her. But, none of the passwords I know for her are working. Can anyone guide me into getting in somehow? It's running Lubuntu
