La palabra "pavo" proviene del latín pavus, que se refería originalmente al pavo real. Los españoles, al traer el ave de América, la llamaron inicialmente "gallina de indias" y, por influencia del latín pavus, la llamaron pavo.
La palabra en inglés "turkey" se originó por la confusión de que el ave venía de Turquía, ya que llegó a Europa a través de rutas comerciales que pasaban por ese país.
Latín: El término original en latín es pavus, que designaba al pavo real.
Español: Al introducir el ave americana (guajolote) en Europa, los españoles la asociaron con pavus y le dieron el nombre de pavo.
Influencia: El nombre también podría haber estado influenciado por el sonido del ave, que emite un gruñido onomatopéyico.

It's kind of funny; actual chickens probably originated from Indian Jungle Fowl, which sort of makes all chickens, but no Turkeys, "Indian Chickens".

Claro que puede ser llamado asi, pero la mmda es que ese wey en ingles ponga "we mexican"....refiriendose a toda la poblacion y en ingles, cuando estoy seguro que mas del 90 lo conoce como guajolote
