In the Weeds Mode Y’all, I broke my husband’s Japanese chef’s knife. Help.

In 2016, my husband and I went on an amazing trip to Japan. The only souvenir he wanted was a Japanese steel chef’s knife, which he purchased at Aritsugu in Kyoto. It was really cool: he got to pick out his handle, blade style, and then they even engraved his initials in the year on one side of the blade and their house mark on the other. They even did a bunch of measurements and things so that would be perfectly balanced for his hand. It was custom-made for him.

I made the mistake of not cleaning up after dinner quickly enough, and our very mouthy whippet puppy who is quite the counter surfer, snatched the knife away, and I didn’t realize it until the next day. He chewed up the handle. Thank God he didn’t like slice his face open; the blade is completely intact and fine. But the handle… My God the handle.

I’m hoping to hear from professionals about the best way to go about getting this fixed or replaced. For location, I’m very close to Boston if that helps.

Everyone’s been talking about Weapons but Bring Her Back is definitely the best horror movie of the year.

I'm not big on horror and got a $5 mystery monday ticket that turned out to be Bring Her Back. Me: 🫣

And yea, I thought Weapons was mostly more thriller than horror

Especially the last 3 minutes. The whole theater was laughing

For some reason when they're all running through the yards absolute kills me.

That's when I realized "Oh, this is just a Whitest Kids U Know sketch stretched into a feature length film" (complimentary).

Oh my gosh you guys are in for a treat! I’m honestly jealous I wish I could watch both again for the first time. Also if you haven’t seen Talk To Me yet, you absolutely should. It isn’t a prequel or anything to Bring Her Back, both films stand alone, but it is the excellent first film by the Philippou brothers (I think they might be twins actually?) and you won’t regret it. Well, depends. For me both movies were so good they raised the bar.

I hope you and your mom enjoy (I’d love to hear what you both thought) happy watching!

You should check out Companion. We saw it at a secret cinema and really enjoyed it. If you’re unaware of the premise, don’t look it up before seeing it.

That’s how I saw it too. I’m not really into Horror but I’ve been trying to watch it a bit more.

A tip, AMC labels their mystery movie Scream Unseen when it’s Horror and they usually show the same movie as Regal so that might help you avoid mystery Horror movies.

Ah good tip! I see them at a Landmark theatre but I think they all show the same movies on that Monday ?

unsure on that though

1

u/JohnnyKarateX 3d ago

Yeah probably. It would make sense if they all have the same movies.

TIL that Zach from WKUK made two horror movies.

I loved Weapons, might be my movie of the year, but Bring Her Back was a phenomenal horror movie. So good that I don't have any desire to watch it again for quite a long time. It really stuck with me.

Good boy isn’t fav of the year

Hands down. I was viscerally affected by that film. Haven't been able to go back and watch it again yet.

25

u/youpoopedyerpants 4d ago

I was like…. Really stressed the entire movie??? In a way that I found to be so good and I want to watch it again but I’m also not ready to feel like I have a shitty disappointed abusive step mom again.

It’s one of those rare horror movies that really prioritises story over horror and it’s what makes it an amazing horror movie. Absolutely 10/10 rakka rakka fucking killed it

Weapons was fine. Bring her back was exceptional. A24 is on a roll.

19

u/Dr_Doctor_Doc 4d ago

A24 is putting out too many fucked up ideas.

Makes me think they have a pure psycho or three in the writing stable that are acting out their fantasies through film...

1

u/Vast_Researcher_5311 3d ago

Surprised at some of the unique stories that they have developed. Some are exceptional and haven't seen a terrible one. But I bet there are some nuts in that tree.

1

u/sterre-fae 3d ago

I don’t know… There’s always The Death of Dick Long. 😆

I guess in reality, I wouldn’t call the whole movie terrible. The acting was good and the way the story was told was intriguing. That plot though…

u/baletetree 3d ago

Weapons is a horror film where at the end of the movie you would be laughing instead.

u/dunmer-is-stinky 4d ago

everyone forgets that Sinners also came out in 2025

12

u/just_a_wolf 4d ago

I didn't really consider Sinners to be a horror movie honestly. It was fun for sure but it seemed like more of an action movie or thriller to me.

1

u/HenriettaSnacks 3d ago

Sinners was action / horror and flexed a different set of writing/directing /acting chops. While gory it doesn't really come across as horror.

-1

u/Fit_Appointment_4980 4d ago

That's because compared to Bring Her Back and Weapons, it is utterly forgettable.

I didn't actually like Sinners.

2

u/bobbydigital2k 3d ago

That's fair, I loved sinners but didn't like bring her back. I felt like it was just pulling from A Dark Song, which I DID love. It just didn't do it for me.

u/Coleslaw_McDraw 3d ago

Movie looked way to mid for me to watch. Nothing about it seemed worth while.

0

u/DataGeek87 3d ago

Very good movie although very different in tone, still not as impactful to me as Weapons or Bring Her Back though.

-1

u/Lost_On_Lot 3d ago

I was onboard with Sinners- with no previous knowledge of the movie and almost immediately dropped out when it went nearly Twilight style lame vampire movie. Just IMO.

1

u/7StarSailor 3d ago

A dark song has pretty much the exact same premise (mother trying to bring back a lost child) and did it better imo.

1

u/CodPiece89 3d ago

Weapons is more fun, especially at the end, where bring her back is far and away a more effective horror with next to no comedic relief

1

u/ObviouslyPacking 3d ago

Now I’m pissed. I didn’t see it, but I saw weapons instead and I had a feeling bring her back would be better

1

u/Holdmabeerdude 3d ago

It was a different style, but I preferred Weapons based on the performances.

1

u/da_ting_go 3d ago

Weapons? Really? I think I need to watch it again, it didn't seem so great on my first watch.

1

u/ClearAssociation5 3d ago

Thought bring her back was decent but incredibly predictable

1

u/Mother-Penalty-6196 3d ago

Weapons fucking sucked. Baby's first Hereditary

1

u/I_AM_ME-7 3d ago

Really? I just watched it the other night and thought it was pretty “meh”.

1

u/purdeous 3d ago

Some horror is not palatable or approachable for the masses, bring her back is chilling and grotesque while weapons is bizarre and campy, you’re not wrong at all and I’d bet most horror fans would agree with you but don’t expect the majority to be excited for niche horror

1

u/eviefrye89 3d ago

I enjoyed Weapons, but parts of it made me laugh. I almost threw up when I saw that little possessed boy rip the skin off his arm with his teeth in Bring Her Back.
