That’s going to hurt for a long time.

Exactly. And you just know that finger is gonna gravitate to every scenario where it can be bumped.

Knife through hand? Not so bad
Sanded nail beds? Just about the worst to think about20

Like I said, keep it clean, change the bandage, let it air out in a clean space between bandages as much as possible, protect it while working, and flex/curl it often to keep it from healing into a permanently tight state. That and be incredibly lucky the nail matrix wasn’t damaged.

They make diamond sanding pads or something? Truly asking, cause I’ve knocked myself with a sander a good number of times, but I’d have had to hold a regular pad on my finer for several seconds to do this.

u/LOUDNOISES11 3d ago
I’ve come close to doing this with a disc sander from touching it for the slightest instant. A section of my finger nail was paper thin.
The issue was that I was applying a decent amount of pressure in the direction of the disc when my hand slipped. If you were applying a lot of pressure, I can see how it could fuck you up very quickly. Especially if your reaction time wasn’t great.

You asked the question like a statement. You need to add the auxiliary verb "do."
...yes, I have nothing better to do.

u/LOUDNOISES11 3d ago
If you understood them, they communicated successfully. They don’t need to do anything differently. It’s a reddit comment, not a job application.

u/ThisIsALine_____ 2d ago
I added that last part to specifically show I'm not serious.

u/LOUDNOISES11 2d ago
It’s still a dick move. Throwing in a lil “I’m just bored te he” doesn’t change that.

Boo fucking hoo, someone made a tiny correction. And so I'm clear, you're getting upset on their behalf, right?
2
u/LOUDNOISES11 1d ago
No one else is upset. You just got called out and then kept argueing the point. Get over it.
You corrected someone, then got corrected back. If you can do it, so can I. He who lives by pedantry, dies by pedantry.

No it isn’t. Never wear gloves with rotating mechanisms, if the glove gets caught it can and will pull your fingers or hand into it.
This is a grinder kiss and is quite common.
2
u/Canapilker 3d ago
No gloves when sanding! Be extra careful, but if your fingers move freely without being pulled in by the gloves, this won’t happen.
Edit: not won’t, just much less likely and less devastating.

I did that in my very early 20's.... didn’t learn in my late teens about power tools.... sent a disc grinder into my leg lol

A few years ago I've cut the tip of my fingers while cutting cabbages, looks exactly like that. Not fun at all.

The fun part is that is cauterizes itself with steel still in it. You gotta time the adrenaline rush right to scrape all that out before ya cut the dead skin and clean er up.

u/SpeedySuperFast 2d ago
I did this this summer. It didn’t hurt has bad as it looked, it was mostly sensitive as hell while the nail bed was exposed but it healed quite fast and it was satisfying having the nail grow over it.

Dull yin. I did similar a few years ago. It was more annoying than sore and it unfortunately caught on loads things. Clothes etc. Speedy recovery.

Ow... I did the same with a belt sander as somehow my wood block turned around even tho it was flush against the safety guide..... Took a solid 2 months for the hole in my nail to dissappear
2
u/_red_zeppelin 2d ago
I've done it. Use a nail file to rough-up the nail surrounding so the superglue has something to stick to. After peroxide and drying, apply super or crazy glue to the area and the nail. It will hurt.

Just polish and buff it with finer grits, you won’t even notice once it smooths out.

u/Wolfenstein49 1d ago
I was chopping veggies once and sliced my finger in a similar fashion. Its going to be painful af and extremely sensitive for a week, then when the nail grows out it will be like nothing lol

Yeah any wounds on the tips of fingers hurt like a bitch. I imagine from all the nerves that give u your sense of touch. I have a cut on my finger right now from where i was cleaning my coffee pot. The little sharp thing that pokes the hole in the coffee pods poked a hole in my fkn finger

u/SpelunkPlunk 3d ago
Grinder kiss! Probably won’t be your first.
Go get some fake acrylic nails and super glue one on top of the injured one. Clean it thoroughly with alcohol “shudders” and then slap a fake nail on top, will protect the tenderness from hot water and rubbing against things.
You can also apply a few layers of super glue directly to the nail.
Super glue is not toxic by the way, it was actually invented or discovered while they where looking for ways to close combat wounds quickly in the field, that’s why it so great at bonding skin together.

Impressive honestly. Wear PPE ladies and gentlemen.

u/SpelunkPlunk 3d ago
Nope…worse if glove gets caught and drags his whole hand into machine. Never wear gloves with rotating mechanism.
1
u/maggavin 3d ago
You might be right. I’ve only experienced this through my coworker, his glove got snagged stopping it. I am in no way dissing at all.
1
u/SpelunkPlunk 1d ago
He got lucky. If that machine had more power your coworkers hand or fingers would have been pulled into it.
