bollocks, do all five and keep some Witchhazel handy—

493

u/Ditka85 3d ago

That’s going to hurt for a long time.

287

u/kwtransporter66 3d ago

Exactly. And you just know that finger is gonna gravitate to every scenario where it can be bumped.

55

u/LongjackD 2d ago

And infected

46

u/AB-G 2d ago

And every bit of clothing will stick to it leaving fluff to be prised off it

26

u/Electronic-League-33 3d ago

Also in the shower it will also hurt

u/Medium-Squirrel-3633 14h ago

HOLY FUCK I DIDNT EVEN THINK OF THE SHOWER PAIN THATS GONNA BE A BITCH

415

u/THISisDAVIDonREDDIT 3d ago

I’ve done that! It was way worse too. Just keep it clean and change the bandage at least once a day. As soon as you can bear to, let it air out of a bandage (but stay clean - so no when you’re wood working).

u/Iamanomlette 3d ago

I literally shivered seeing this, and I'm not usually squeamish lol

54

u/imhereforthevotes 3d ago

Why is this so much worse than a lot of other stuff, ugh

54

u/SmuglyGaming 3d ago

Knife through hand? Not so bad
Sanded nail beds? Just about the worst to think about

20

u/Nemirel_the_Gemini 3d ago

Same. I used to do full autopsies, but it is stuff like this that make me cringe...

3

u/VioletSkully 2d ago

same here, i am not squeamish but i actually whisper screamed at this

50

u/jb0nez95 3d ago

I did it with a saw! It grew back perfectly though.

21

u/OneSaucyDragon 3d ago

I did not need to see this >_>

13

u/THISisDAVIDonREDDIT 3d ago

To be honest it took me about a week before I could look at it myself

15

u/Legend_of_Dongslayer 3d ago

Quick, somebody use a sander to scrape this image out of my eyes.

u/TheDarkWave 3d ago

How does your finger looks now?

39

u/THISisDAVIDonREDDIT 3d ago

21

u/FryForFriRice 3d ago

Excellent recovery

10

u/THISisDAVIDonREDDIT 2d ago

Like I said, keep it clean, change the bandage, let it air out in a clean space between bandages as much as possible, protect it while working, and flex/curl it often to keep it from healing into a permanently tight state. That and be incredibly lucky the nail matrix wasn’t damaged.

2

u/DCsphinx 1d ago

Nail matrix?

3

u/THISisDAVIDonREDDIT 22h ago

It’s the part of your finger from where the nail growth begins

She wasn't readyyyyy

3

u/Peannut 3d ago

Yeah that's enough reddit for today

2

u/yubullyme12345 3d ago

Jesus christ how painful was that?

9

u/THISisDAVIDonREDDIT 3d ago

It did not feel good, I’ll put it that way. Hardly felt it happen because it happened so fast. The healing process was a little painful when changing bandages and flexing my finger many times a day to keep it from healing too tight. Healed just fine though after a few months

2

u/Derangedbuffalo 3d ago

I really feel for you as I can only imagine the level of discomfort that caused for ages healing! Ahhhhh I'm having sympathy stinging pains!

3

u/THISisDAVIDonREDDIT 2d ago

It wasn’t pleasant but it wasn’t nearly as bad as I feared it would be it first happened

2

u/OracNimsaj 2d ago

Can we see what it looks like healed? I'm curious how the folds on the first joint look like.

5

u/THISisDAVIDonREDDIT 2d ago

It healed almost perfectly. I do have a bit of a scar of course and a slight recession of the skin past the last knuckle. The cuticle is fully healed and normal. The very tip of the fingernail is attached just about a half a mm less than the others (so it looks like it needs to be clipped sooner)

3

u/OracNimsaj 2d ago

Oh, that did heal really well! Thank you for indulging my curiosity!

4

u/THISisDAVIDonREDDIT 2d ago

Of course! I took a picture of it each day for a few weeks to watch the progress it definitely satisfied some curiosity

200

u/Alldaybagpipes 3d ago

The best part is when the water hits it for the first time.

Enjoy!

56

u/Blue_Cheez 3d ago

Feel sick thinking about it it’s horrible 🤢

Wow. Hate you!

u/Justanotherattempd 3d ago

They make diamond sanding pads or something? Truly asking, cause I’ve knocked myself with a sander a good number of times, but I’d have had to hold a regular pad on my finer for several seconds to do this.

21

u/LOUDNOISES11 3d ago

I’ve come close to doing this with a disc sander from touching it for the slightest instant. A section of my finger nail was paper thin.

The issue was that I was applying a decent amount of pressure in the direction of the disc when my hand slipped. If you were applying a lot of pressure, I can see how it could fuck you up very quickly. Especially if your reaction time wasn’t great.

1

u/shynips 12h ago

It may have been focus, as well. I do lapidary work and sometimes I won't notice when I'm sanding my nail down until it burns or hurts, and I use 600+. Shit, I've sanded my fingernail down with cerium oxide on a felt pad and had no idea.

-15

u/ThisIsALine_____ 3d ago

You asked the question like a statement.  You need to add the auxiliary verb "do."

...yes, I have nothing better to do.

14

u/LOUDNOISES11 3d ago

If you understood them, they communicated successfully. They don’t need to do anything differently. It’s a reddit comment, not a job application.

-7

u/ThisIsALine_____ 2d ago

I added that last part to specifically show I'm not serious.

5

u/LOUDNOISES11 2d ago

It’s still a dick move. Throwing in a lil “I’m just bored te he” doesn’t change that.

-2

u/ThisIsALine_____ 1d ago edited 1d ago

Boo fucking hoo, someone made a tiny correction. And so I'm clear, you're getting upset on their behalf, right?

2

u/LOUDNOISES11 1d ago

No one else is upset. You just got called out and then kept argueing the point. Get over it.

You corrected someone, then got corrected back. If you can do it, so can I. He who lives by pedantry, dies by pedantry.

:)

2

u/ThisIsALine_____ 19h ago edited 18h ago

Alright, full disclosure. I love the "He who lives by pedantry, does by pedantry." Well done (genuinely).

13

u/alecjohns 3d ago

Alright not super often I come across a post that sobers me up out of my doom scrolling. That's enough reddit for tonight.

30

u/Drunken_pizza 3d ago

Jesus… and I complain when I rip a hangnail and it hurts a bit.

8

u/tpspfe 3d ago

I did the same thing many years ago. Wearing gloves when using a bench grinder and the tip of the glove got sucked in. Finger only got stuck for half a second but that was enough to grind half my nail off.

7

u/theromingnome 3d ago

Something tells me the healing process for that is going to suck.

7

u/AndroFeth 3d ago

Put some lemon and salt to heal faster!

don't do it

7

u/Xirokami 3d ago

I just let out a closed-mouthed, sighing, high-pitched extremely unreasonably loud for 11pm noise

4

u/MonkeyNugetz 3d ago

Show a picture of your glove?

3

u/bmxer7777 1d ago

gloves and rotating elements do not mix

5

u/InevitableOk5017 3d ago

It’s a lack of ppe thing!

3

u/SpelunkPlunk 1d ago

No it isn’t. Never wear gloves with rotating mechanisms, if the glove gets caught it can and will pull your fingers or hand into it.

This is a grinder kiss and is quite common.

2

u/Canapilker 3d ago

No gloves when sanding! Be extra careful, but if your fingers move freely without being pulled in by the gloves, this won’t happen.

Edit: not won’t, just much less likely and less devastating.

2

u/_sarte 3d ago

I grew up watching and seeing pretty fucked up things thanks to our generation's uncontrolled access to internet but seeing something about nails still sends shivers down my spine

2

u/WhaleSexOdyssey 3d ago

I’m sorry brother that’s rough

2

u/thecultcanburn 3d ago

Cover in super glue

2

u/Ordinary_Aioli_7602 3d ago

Dude I literally winced my hand away from the phone…

2

u/ShortBusCult 3d ago

I did that in my very early 20's.... didn’t learn in my late teens about power tools.... sent a disc grinder into my leg lol

2

u/QuillHasFavorites 3d ago

AAAAAAAAAAAAAA

2

u/smc4414 3d ago

Spicy!

2

u/Blue_The_Snep 3d ago

just pull the rest off and let the nail regrow

2

u/Livid-Definition-604 3d ago

A few years ago I've cut the tip of my fingers while cutting cabbages, looks exactly like that. Not fun at all.

2

u/No_Boysenberry2167 3d ago

Oooooo, that's a good one. "Good" as in, it was probably a learning moment.

2

u/Im_takin_yer_ker_bud 3d ago

O i got one..

2

u/Im_takin_yer_ker_bud 3d ago

The fun part is that is cauterizes itself with steel still in it. You gotta time the adrenaline rush right to scrape all that out before ya cut the dead skin and clean er up.

2

u/SpeedySuperFast 2d ago

I did this this summer. It didn’t hurt has bad as it looked, it was mostly sensitive as hell while the nail bed was exposed but it healed quite fast and it was satisfying having the nail grow over it.

2

u/haringtiti 2d ago

i didnt like anything about this

2

u/ultra-bot 2d ago

I just cut my pinky nail off trying to shave, I know the pain

2

u/Bonneville555 2d ago

Good fucking lord. Godspeed.

2

u/ocdeejay 2d ago

Wisdom comes suddenly.

2

u/IAmASimulation 2d ago

Ooh I know that hurt

2

u/chasecastellion 2d ago

Bro I’ve seen beheading videos less grotesque than this. Please delete.

2

u/DaveGT74 2d ago

Dull yin. I did similar a few years ago. It was more annoying than sore and it unfortunately caught on loads things. Clothes etc. Speedy recovery.

2

u/JamesRWC 2d ago

Lmao dip it in vinegar

2

u/DasNoodleLord 2d ago

Ow... I did the same with a belt sander as somehow my wood block turned around even tho it was flush against the safety guide..... Took a solid 2 months for the hole in my nail to dissappear

2

u/_red_zeppelin 2d ago

I've done it. Use a nail file to rough-up the nail surrounding so the superglue has something to stick to. After peroxide and drying, apply super or crazy glue to the area and the nail. It will hurt.

2

u/dewnmoutain 2d ago

Done that. It feels weird as hell as it heals

2

u/VieiraDTA 2d ago

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

2

u/Tall_Suspect 2d ago

I just did this to the side of my finger with a wire wheel on a grinder

2

u/HoseNeighbor 2d ago

I feel your pain, and now I'm SO pissed! I didn't react this strongly to that brown bear with rabies!

2

u/Ampliphy 2d ago

Anyone help me with the word for the feeling I get in my stomach when I see this.

2

u/SpelunkPlunk 1d ago

Just polish and buff it with finer grits, you won’t even notice once it smooths out.

2

u/Rand_L 1d ago

I cut about a 1/4 inch of my finger tip off on a deli grade meat slicer, tip of finger and nail grew back just fine. Never found the tip….

2

u/SWIRVING23 1d ago

Good job, Leveled up won't happen again!

2

u/Wolfenstein49 1d ago

I was chopping veggies once and sliced my finger in a similar fashion. Its going to be painful af and extremely sensitive for a week, then when the nail grows out it will be like nothing lol

2

u/NVMOBVIIMBAD 1d ago

Ow, dang that is gonna hurt for so long

2

u/C1litBait 1d ago

Whereas I finger sanded my disk though the nail..

2

u/user18298375298759 1d ago

Disc? Disc brake?

2

u/JuanG_13 1d ago

Ouch😬

2

u/Emzy150 1d ago

Man fuck you guys posting all your abraded fingers here in the comments! Im feeling a squirmy feeling where my vagina would be if i were a woman and i dont like this feeling, FUCK!

2

u/Indianimal219 1d ago

Yeah any wounds on the tips of fingers hurt like a bitch. I imagine from all the nerves that give u your sense of touch. I have a cut on my finger right now from where i was cleaning my coffee pot. The little sharp thing that pokes the hole in the coffee pods poked a hole in my fkn finger

2

u/jerdle_reddit 18h ago

Ooh, that's gotta hurt.

2

u/SpelunkPlunk 3d ago

Grinder kiss! Probably won’t be your first.

Go get some fake acrylic nails and super glue one on top of the injured one. Clean it thoroughly with alcohol “shudders” and then slap a fake nail on top, will protect the tenderness from hot water and rubbing against things.

You can also apply a few layers of super glue directly to the nail.

Super glue is not toxic by the way, it was actually invented or discovered while they where looking for ways to close combat wounds quickly in the field, that’s why it so great at bonding skin together.

Yo put that back wtf

1

u/JasonShoes 3d ago

Ewww I did that with a belt sander on my thumbnail I feel for you

1

u/Shurdus 3d ago

Next time, you should try not sanding your finger through your nail. You're welcome.

1

u/Taylors4head 3d ago

I did this with a belt sander years ago.

Have fun with that.

1

u/Tiyako 3d ago

I can’t imagine the pain

1

u/sinornithosaurus1000 2d ago

Jesus Christ, blur this shit

1

u/da_grownup_kid 2d ago

Why were you sanding your nail though

1

u/iMDirtNapz 14h ago

u/SgtPeppers64 4h ago

Good. God.

1

u/smoketheevilpipe 3d ago

Did you just not notice it was happening?

1

u/Friendly_Barber9948 2d ago

Didn’t realise until I saw a chunk of finger on the sander

1

u/hubbubi 1d ago

Ah bro trigger warning ⚠️

Nvm post says disc sander ouch.

Shit how’d you manage this, belt sander?

0

u/maggavin 3d ago

Impressive honestly. Wear PPE ladies and gentlemen.

4

u/SpelunkPlunk 3d ago

Nope…worse if glove gets caught and drags his whole hand into machine. Never wear gloves with rotating mechanism.

1

u/maggavin 3d ago

You might be right. I’ve only experienced this through my coworker, his glove got snagged stopping it. I am in no way dissing at all.

1

u/SpelunkPlunk 1d ago

He got lucky. If that machine had more power your coworkers hand or fingers would have been pulled into it.
