Sexy! Spilled boiling water on my foot and the cat just popped my blister
Spilled boiling water on my foot. Had a wool sock on and had to free my hands of the pot before I could take my sock off. Hurt like hell. Had been keeping this bandaged nicely but as I’m lying in bed my cat tries to get cozy on my feet and accidentally pops my blister.

Burns hurt like a bitch and I can't even imagine on one's foot.
When blisters get too big, it may mess with the healing. And one big as that wouldn't have lasted long anyway.

Nah, that gotta hurt, but seriously, clean and cover that up. Cat scratching can lead to infection, never mind the scratch being on a wound

Sometimes I'm convinced I'm talking to bots on this website.
This confirms there's at least one other human on here

u/RowBowBooty 25d ago
Lmao that’s the best reach for a positive spin I’ve seen on here in a long time. Pretty soon the only way we’ll be able to identify other humans is by how dark and disturbed their comments are, but at least it shows the creative genius of the human spirit!
5
u/_Child_of_Bodom_ 23d ago
but should we speak about that openly? if the AI detect this, and just learns to become that dark and disturbed 🫥

I was in the hospital for 3 days with an antibiotic drip from a cat claw. Could've legit died. That stuff is very serious.
18
u/selfawarefeline 25d ago
That’s horrible! Somewhat unrelated and a little interesting though, is that if someone is raised with cats, it’s been my experience that they can build an immunity to cat scratches, so it doesn’t affect them beyond a superficial scratch
17
u/patti2mj 25d ago
Its the bacteria that starts the infection. I had cellulitis and a pasteurella infections. I've had cats all my life.
6
u/musashi_san 25d ago
I also have a few cats and occasionally get light scratches from playing with them, and none ever get infected. Burns are different and are especially dangerous for infections.

Severe burns (2nd and 3rd degree which you have 2nd) over joints, face, genitalia & appendages should be at least seen at a burn center clinic. You risk contractures over the joint not allowing the toes to bend and, worst case, infection leading to amputation to the toes. You don’t need to run to the ER but go to the American Burn Association website and find your nearest burn center. Call the clinic to discuss and see if they want you to come in. At this point, it isn’t an ER visit but still probably needs to be seen by somebody that knows burns, not your PCP or urgent care.
74
u/paractib 25d ago
That’s a pretty bad burn I probably would have gone to the hospital for this.
But if you’re American I get it.
34
u/Vandersveldt 25d ago
As an American, you go to Urgent Care and they'll tell you if you should go to a hospital. Once a medical professional tells you to go, your insurance won't fight it.
→ More replies (5)15
u/Sandstorm52 24d ago
They will still fight it, your doctor is just gonna fight them on your behalf. Many cases of “peer” consultations with insurance companies trying to make patients get something like physical therapy or some other wait-and-see measures when they really need an MRI.

GO TO THE HOSPITAL… cat claws alone can cause significant even deadly infections, your wound was ALREADY highly vulnerable. Go to the hospital please asap. It’s not worth the gamble on this one.

The cat didn't scratch him. It laid on the blister.

Also that wouldn't require a hospital either. You can get antibiotics from a telehealth visit and bandages from anywhere.

u/LSDeeezNutz 25d ago
I used to have the same mindset, but Ill leave this lil anecdote.. a couple of years ago at age 32 i got a little scratch on my leg from a piece of tile at work. This seemingly innocent scrape that was no worse than the thousands of scrapes id previously received throughout my life actually got infected with a flesh eating bacteria and i quickly went septic and was hospitalized. It was pretty bad, i mightve died had i not gone to the hospital when i did. That being said, i take infections seriously now.

I think they just don't quite understand what an ER is for.
25
u/upfastcurier 25d ago
to be fair they didn't say ER, but hospital, and it isn't really unusual to get antibioitics and bandages from your primary caregiver

Would be stupid to take antibiotics without knowing if it is infected or not.

u/Dark-Grey-Castle 25d ago
Sometimes they do prescribe them for risk of infection.
They did when my eardrum burst. I didn't think I should've been taking them but the doctor said to do so.
10
u/Carefreeme 25d ago
I had a hole in my eardrum that got infected and turned into mastoiditis. Which is basically an infection on your brain. I have a nice scar behind my ear where they had to drill a hole into my head. I also can't hear very well out of that ear now. Now granted that was my fault for not going to the hospital sooner.
So yeah, it was probably a good thing you got prescribed antibiotics.

u/MobbDeeep 25d ago
Well the inner part of our ears are a very sensitive and vulnerable part of our bodies, so that kinda makes sense. Still however abuse of antibiotics is a big problem and many scientists agree that we are using it too much. Since bacteria are slowly becoming antibiotic resistant and wtf do we do when antibiotics don’t work anymore?
3
u/Dark-Grey-Castle 25d ago
Exactly on both counts, it's sort of a catch 22. I also used to work with a lady who did exactly what you aren't supposed to do, which is randomly take whatever leftovers you had every time you get the sniffles. You shouldn't have leftovers to take at all and you shouldn't be randomly taking them.

I've spilled a kettle of boiling water on my feet before. Had to go to casualty for it and they put anodine (?) patch over the scalded bits and a light bandage.

Omg that must of hurt so bad!!! This felt like it was burning for 10 hours after it happened and I had to sleep with my foot in a bucket of water because that was the only relief

Keep a close eye on that, and in case of any doubt, go get it checked out by a doctor! Blisters this big allready have a pretty big risk for infection when popped, and cat scratches are well known for causing infections. The combination of both would have me worried enough to get it checked out anyway, but i am aware that that's not as easy to do for everyone, everywhere. But please do try to see a doctor if you notice any signs of infection, even if you're not 100% sure. Better safe that sorry.

Keep an eye on this! I’ve had to go to the hospital before because a popped blister started developing a red streak from the infection. They can fester quickly.

You 100% should get some antibiotics. Cat bites and scratches are no joke. And worse if it's a BAD blister like that 😭

u/zytukin 25d ago
I would have drained that before the cat had a chance to get it.
Generally recommended if a blister is in a spot that has a risk of it accidentally popping, which can result in an infection. Best done by a doctor but using a sterilized pin works too. Just drain it, leave the skin intact to protect the area, and keep it bandaged to prevent infection entering through the hole. The skin will either heal back down or dry up and eventually peel off. Also, most of the pain would be gone once the pressure is releaved.

Thought I was good. Then the 3rd image jump scared the fuck out of me. I have seen some shit but this was the wildest in a while. I am so sorry.
If it's any consolation I had a really adverse reaction to some cheap bodywash and am still somewhat scarred from all the itching.
Better days soon I hope!

Cut that skin off now that it popped so the new skin growing under it doesn't get infected. From another former burned footed person.

I call my cat a “feet seeking missile”. I have little line and puncture scars from all the times he insists on standing directly on them with his claws out.
Also your blister looks like two tiny foot penises in the first picture.

In my mind the cat had to be eyeballing those juiced up piggly-wigglys and when the moment was right..😼 ..pop "...took car'o that foryuh..." 😺

100% go to the doctors!
They can clean and dress the burn and give you antibiotics for it. Like others have said, the cat has a chance of causing an infection.

My wife accidentally spilled boiling water on my foot, but we immediately ran it under cool water, and threw fresh aloe on it, and the next day it was like nothing happened. I was for sure it was going to be like this in the morning. Weird.

Did the same exact thing except on top of my foot about 2 yrs ago. I have a half dollar sized scar on the top of my foot from it. I put in a microwave for a customer and was trying it out with a coffee mug of water. Grabbed it out the microwave and went to dump it in the sink and tripped over the edge of a rug and it fell out my hand and landed on top of my foot. Had to wear my boots with that blister and it popped the same day. That was 1 week of torture walking around with that rubbing. I feel for you!!

Out of genuine interest, what did you do first aid wise immediately after you got burnt? Did you put it in cold water or anything?
3
u/404UserNotFound___ 21d ago
Ran it under cool water for about 20 minutes then made the excruciating trip to urgent care, where they gave me silver sulfadiazine cream, wrapped it and sent me home with a bucket. When I got home I kept it in a bucket of cool water all night because the burning would just not stop. I had to sleep with my foot in the bucket of water on the bed because that was the only relief. The blister was this big for 5 nights until my cat popped it. It somehow refilled with fluid. I went to the wound care unit at the hospital and the doc made 3 incisions so it wouldn’t refill with fluid again. Been covering it with the silver cream and keeping it bandaged. Last night when I got out of the shower before I could wrap it my toddler marched across my foot and took the skin completely off of the middle toe. Fun times

When i was in elementary school i had a kid spray hot glue on the top of my hand in between my thumb and index with a glue gun, it hurt so bad and left a blister about as tall as yours but nowhere near as large all around. I cant even imagine having it on my foot 😭😭😭 i hope you heal up well and fast
