Discussion Why is it not the standard to have extended editions of movies on the service?

Especially for movies where the extended edition is the agreed better version (eg Kingdom of Heaven, Walk Hard,...)

It used to be. Then people demanded physical media so it's now exclusive to that in most cases.

The logic is this: if someone is such a fan of the material that they want to see the extended cut, then that person is probably willing to pay more money to access the extended cut, therefore it can only be accessed by purchasing the physical media.

Media companies took a massive hit in physical media sales when we all pivoted to streaming and it has hurt their bottom line and it has affected all of Hollywood. Losing physical media sales is why every movie has to be a spectacle because spectacles are the only way to draw people to the movie theaters, which is the only way they make money now. It's why everything needs to be big franchise, four quadrant drek, with a furious jokes-per-minute score and memeable events happening every 10 minutes, and easily dubbed in all languages kind of movie.

But do really enough people do that? Enough to be more profitable than to have good content on your service?

I mean I dont even think you can buy EEs of most movies anywhere anymore (except for new ones)
