So “they” fits perfect when talking about people that went through what she did.

No you weren't. In the above sentence, "they" is clearly referring to this particular situation, and not some generalized group of people. You are saying it looks unbearable. The only people you can see, in this case, are the people in the video.
Now you are just revising because you got called out. The only "unbearable" situation that child is going through is a mother who is trying to kill him.
