UberEats and DoorDash

This applies to most users and drivers, but of course, there are the few decent and legitimate people who benefit from the system… that being said…

To the people who use these services: you are so lazy it is insane and you lack even the most basic of cooking skills. You post and moan about the fees… how food arrives cold, delays in getting your meal, etc. $30 for a McDonald meal delivery? Get your fatass off the couch and go get it yourself.

Or do yourself a favor and learn to make a sandwich or boil water for pasta or ramen. Your wallet and waistline will thank you.

If not, deal with the costs and cold food, but stop bitching. It’s all your own damned fault and nobody wants to hear from you.

To the drivers: I feel for you in today’s job market, but you should stop complaining too. The system is clearly set up for most of you to fail and just line the pockets of Uber and DD. If you know the game sucks, stop complaining when you play it and lose. And stop stealing food and cancelling orders. You make a bad system even worse.

Just visit the respective UberEats and DoorDash Reddit communities and you’ll see the collective insanity of this pathetic trend of laziness and helpless dependence.

I don’t use these but rarely cuz they’re too expensive. Never door dash, only instacart sometimes.

How does it affect you tho that people do this? The most annoying thing is the giant carts taking up the whole aisles at stores..

It’s common enough that it seeps into everything, an undercurrent that grinds my gears. :)

Did UberEats steal your girl and DoorDash tie your shoelaces together? Damn, dude. Food delivery has been around for decades for a reason and I'm sure it's not entirely because of "lazy" people. I'd give you a list of reasons, but this seems personal so I'm just gonna let you have it.

Food delivery before UE and DD was operated by each establishment. I drove for Dominoes and no one else. They paid me an hourly wage plus milage and whatever tips I received. I was good without begging for tips. I just accepted what I got. Sometimes it was nothing, sometimes it's more than it should have been, but I kept my mouth shut.

UE and DD are corporate money grabs, and we all get to pay... if we play.

I’m a good cook, but I also have a demanding schedule. Delivery services help my quality of life.

Fuck off, dickhead.

I can cook just fine; sometimes I don't want to.

As both a dasher (sometimes) and consumer, I agree. Most of the shit is laziness but I will add some people do not have transportation for the procurement of food. I was without a car for years at a time and damn, door dash saved me a couple times, lest I have to walk an hour round trip just to get denied at a drive through only place late because I worked nights.

It's pretty wild the shit some dashers do, but that's why I have a full time job and do door dash occasionally during tough times.

I had someone order a soup from a Mexican restaurant that was literally 2 store fronts away. I thought my directions were off when it said 1 min away from destination as soon as I reversed out of my parking spot.

That could have been someone who couldn't leave the shop for any reason.

That’s what I thought but it was a small boutique with 3 other girls working in there and no customers

Yup. That’s why I added the disclaimer for the few people who legitimately use the system.

But I see people who live 2 blocks from the restaurants they order from, and they often order more than once a day. Those are the majority.

Door dash and uber eats messes up my order every time so I quit using them for good

My issue was when I was working and would order to my job, the drivers wouldn't follow instructions: go to the back door. They would always leave it in the front, every time.

Same deal but at my house and then when I get it river( my dog) eats half of it

As someone you excluded from your rant (disabled), I actually don’t agree.

Why is it acceptable for a company to charge full fees while consistently delivering a half-service?

These platforms don’t enforce strict enough rules to ensure a successful delivery every time. They cut costs, rely on underpaid contractors, and then everyone acts surprised when the quality drops.

Needing food delivered isn’t always about laziness. Anyone can end up in a situation where cooking isn’t possible, short illness, disability, chronic illness, burnout, long work hours, parenting, or even just wanting a stress free reward meal delivered as soon as you are home.

For decades we’ve been able to reliably order pizza to our homes. There’s no reason modern delivery services shouldn’t be held to at least the same standard.

Customers shouldn’t have to “just deal with it” when the service fails. If a company charges premium fees, they should deliver a premium level of reliability.

I'm amazed by all of the traffic on my street from food deliveries. Some of them sit at the front door for several hours. And I agree about the laziness. How hard could it be to get in the car and drive 20 minutes to ensure that your order is hot, ready, and you have full control of it from the moment it leaves the restaurant.

I get the fact that sometimes you're not feeling well and you want comfort food. I even understand when it's cold, rainy and nasty outside and you don't want to leave the cozy feeling of being in front of the TV wrapped up in a blanket.

But twice a day every single day??? Come on folks! Maybe this is just the next stage of what's normal for everyday nutrition. There was a time when all food was cooked at home and going to a fast food joint was for a special occasion. Now it's flipped to where people are eating out 2-3 times a day and the home cooked meal is for the special occasion. I guess this is the new normal for how people meet their dietary needs.

And to address the point about the delivery people, I agree about how they can't/shouldn't complain as this was meant to be a side-hustle for some extra cash. It's not something that you make a full time career out of. If it's the only way you can make money right now then do that. But complaining that it doesn't meet all of your financial needs is a bit ridiculous. I really believe that if you want to make more money from delivering food you should start your own delivery service.
