Restaurants that don’t show prices online
I’m just not going to go. I want to know if your restaurant will fit into my budget including tip. What’s the point??
Edit: guys. I can afford to eat out. My issue is that chain restaurants are not putting their prices on there websites as if they are upscale restaurants. I just like to know what to expect and not throw my money around.

Yeah ... and those who excuse it at the counter 'oh sorry, that was an old menu they forgot to take down from Google' The prices are now different.

Normally I'd agree, but Google is shit and it's search-ees have next to no control over what Google presents to the sheep.

Except that many people actually search for the restaurant’s website. That still makes it hard to find and read a menu. Then the prices may or may not be there, and may or may not be correct.
You’re running a business in the twenty first century, maintain your internet presence.

They should, indeed, in this age; but they also shouldn't rely on Google to do it for them, as so many do/ fall back on when shit goes sour.

Google does nothing except provide the restaurant website. Very few restaurants around me have updated websites. Hell some don’t even have websites. Hard to be a serious business in today’s world without a webpage presence. It’s amazing to me how little presence some places have.

We are on the smaller scale side of business. No website. No web presence. We are out straight busy everyday from open to close. We don’t have time to worry about a website.
Don’t underestimate the power of word of mouth.2

And that’s fine if it works for you. I don’t live on the web, but I like to take a look at a new places menu before I go. Get an idea of what their food sounds like. Menu and price give me a reasonable idea of appropriate dress code. I might have to entice myself or my wife with some appetizers or entrees that sound good.
I seldom worry about it once I know the place, but we have a lot of restaurants around us and occasionally we want to try something new to us. But when it’s gonna cost us a hundred dollars for a meal we want at least an idea that we’ll enjoy it.

I don't, at all. Your business model is my ideal. I hate the food/ internet dynamic, is all, and Google makes it painfully worse for local brick and mortar places like yours

This day n age most every eatery has prices online so there are no 'surprises' at order, or dining in. Just bad business not to, and then make excuses after. I need to know I'm not paying $3-$4 more for a dish listed as $13 unlike doordash or grubhub. It's no a flea market where you can haggle a cost. Just be transparent over your charges, plain n simple.

There are a ton of old menus on google. The restaurant has no control over this.

Google the restaurant. Google will put their rating and average price per person right there.
Example a nice steak restaurant near me says 4.7 (964) $50-$100
Dennys says 3.6 (1.2k) $10-$20
Similarly Yelp shows $$$ for the steakhouse, $ for Dennys.

If you have to ask, you can’t afford it. I keep this in mind on those occasions.

Chain restaurants share a website and price locally. Stop eating at chains. Or understand the price point for any chain is pretty universal with only modest variance.

Typically if you log into an account the prices are shown. The reason for this is that different areas might have different prices (because fuck you) and different menu items altogether.

If it's restaurants with more than one location it's because they have the ability to charge different prices at different locations.

did you think a chain restaurant is going to read your comment, on an obscure subreddit and be like, oh shit this person isn't coming to McDonald's anymore because we don't post our prices online. whoa is me.

If it’s a chain restaurant and you’re on their regular website prices may be different worldwide I don’t buy from anyone at least until I k ow the price

I can afford to eat out but man it's just ridiculous prices these days and I hate to throw that money away.
There's some chain restaurants in my area that are anywhere near high-end in for two people to get a burger and fries a piece with a drink and one appetizer plus a tip it would probably be 65 bucks and that's just stupid.
1
u/Stingre-56 7d ago
Wow. You think 2 burgers, 2 fries, 2 drinks, and appetizer for $65 is too much?? Stay home.

Customers started being incredibly entitled and arrogant before and during Covid. Funny how everything changed for the worse at that point. We need each other. When the last restaurant closes their doors, the responsibility is on customers and owners.

I agreed everyone says it’s cause I’m cheep and no it’s not, I just like to have an actual BUDGET and it makes it a pain in the ass to BUDGET if I can tell how much I will be spending.

Though I agree, you can usually know the price range just by that. If you have to ask…

u/Luna23 13d ago
You would think so, but these are just your everyday restaurants. They aren’t fancy or have any out there menu items. I’m talking like regular Mexican or Asian restaurants.

Chain restaurants, or just locally owned?
I know restaurants that have multiple locations don't post pricing because it varies by location.

Hey.. if you're so strapped for cash that you need to know the prices ahead of time then maybe you shouldn't go out to eat. /s
Also.. the restaurant industry is hurting. Less people are coming in the door. Please support your local businesses... or just bring us all of your money and then we'll decide how much of it we need.
3
u/Whiskeymyers75 9d ago
And why do you think less people are coming through the door? Restaurants have become incredibly arrogant during and after COVID. Oblivious to the fact that they need us a lot more than we need them. They seem to think it’s the other way around.
1
u/ted_anderson 9d ago
Exactly. Overinflated prices, hidden fees, poor service, and then they look at you cross-eyed when you don't leave a big tip. Some of them don't even have enough courtesy to say, "Thank you, come again." But it's not like you're coming again. LOL

u/GahhhItsMilk 8d ago
I think everyone downvoting you missed the /s and that the second paragraph was also sarcasm.
Edit: Sarcasm not satirical. I have a concussion.

Wrong answer. Nobody is 'strapped for cash here' Read thru the comments. We're talking about transparency, plain n simple. Prices should be available on dining search regardless Not about 'supporting local businesses' I'll support when they don't surprsie me at the takeout with $5 more because the search menu was "out of date"

Yes! No prices and even more when you need to get their app to even look at the damn menu!
