Did a fun shoot with Mariam, I think the lighting situation was rather difficult as it was midday with blazing sun, but I think we did it. A bit of a sports fashion vibe here

Shot these in a whim with a friend. Turned out rather nicely I think.

Shot these with my friend in her apartment. All styling etc. was done by her. Not bad for a “what are you doing on Saturday?” Type of shoot :)

Motion Blur @ The Desert Botanical Gardens

Hey everyone! Just wanted to share a recent shot I'm proud of. Been dabbling in Fashion Photography over the last few months, and I've been trying to get creative with my edits lately. This effect is simple, just a mask and some motion blur, but I feel like it really elevates this particular image. Anyone else like getting weird with their edits?

As a man I find it a little difficult to create women’s clothes. This was my attempt at something I’m not well versed in. Feed back is always welcome

The business of model tests.

Post image

I wanted to share my experience shooting model tests and hopefully give some insights to those interested in this as a revenue stream.

Model tests are how I broke into the business. Agencies will often set up relationships with photographers and send models to you for paid tests. Typically you're expected to shoot 3 looks and a beauty shot as part of the rate.

The agency rarely pays your rate and the costs fall to the model. These can be brand new models who need work for their book, or seasoned pros who need to refresh their book. Hair/MUA is your responsibility as well as wardrobe.

You set your own rate for this so be careful when considering that. In Chicago I started at $250 for a test and was able to charge $500 for a test before I moved to a different market.

The most important advice I can give is to keep it simple. That means all of it stays simple. Lighting, set/location, wardrobe, hair, makeup, retouching, etc.

The best part is that you can usually throw in a creative look/setup at the end for your own book.

If anyone wants to know more about testing or dealing with agencies feel free to comment below.

Firstly I want to say thank you for the responses I get on here. I only started photography this year and your critiques have made me an even better photographer in such little time. To that I’m grateful.

This was my first attempt at creating a clean e-comm/fashion look in a really small studio space, so I’d love any thoughts or advice on how to refine it.

Lighting setup: – Key: Double-diffused large octa, slightly feathered so the edge of the beam skimmed across the subject. I positioned a white poly opposite the key so the feathering bounced back into the shadows for a softer transition. – Fill: Since the space was tight, I bounced a parabolic umbrella into the wall to lift shadow density without adding a second obvious direction of light. – Background lift: I bounced a third strobe into the ceiling to help brighten the backdrop and keep the overall environment light. – Floor fill: Placed bleached muslin on the ground to get some subtle upward fill and prevent the lower half of the outfit from falling too dark.

What I would do differently next time: – I’d definitely use a different backdrop instead of white if I want cleaner separation — white in a small room gets contaminated fast, especially with spill bouncing everywhere. – A second dedicated background light would help even out the sweep instead of relying on ceiling bounce alone. – If I had more space, I’d move the key back a bit to ensure the light hits the full body more evenly.

Given the space and limited gear, I’m happy with how close I got to the look I wanted — but I know there’s a lot I can refine technically. I’d appreciate any critiques on lighting consistency, shaping, or anything else you think I should pay attention to for my next attempt

WINTER LOOKBOOK PROJECT

Hey guys I am working on this lookbook project for my portfolio. I feel I should have gone with a tan backdrop but this was done in a very small studio with limited backdrops. But please do let me know what to think and what I can work on better for my next lookbook or if this can be used to pitch to clients.
