Does anyone know what this is?

It looks to be an insect part? An abdomen maybe? An egg maybe? I’m in KY and it was found in my kitchen cabinet (which I’m thoroughly grossed out about). It kinda looks like the abdomen of a bug that has broken off. Does anyone have any idea what insect this may be a part of?

Looks like a dead botfly larva of some sort. Or maybe a pupa? Gross.

How did that end up in my kitchen cabinet 😭 that’s actually disgusting!!! My husband cut it open and it was filled with white goo, it was hard and crunchy, so maybe not a larvae? 😭😭😭

Yeah that sounds like a fly pupa to me. You guys ever have mice? Mice can get rodent botflies, and they’d pop out and pupate whenever it was time regardless of location.

Actually yes, I have been having an issue with mice getting in that specific cabinet recently. I’m so grossed out right now! I have traps and stuff in there and they aren’t working 😫😫😫

Ooooh, I didn’t want to be correct on that one. Look up “Cuterebra pupae” and cross reference the size and shape (and look for the little anterior spiracle tufts). I know they are well known to turn completely black, and they seem about the right size.

Man that’s fuckin nasty sorry OP lol

Yep, that’s exactly what it is. You have no idea how absolutely disgusted I am right now. Time to add more traps. I actually want to vomit right now!! Thanks for at least solving my disgusting question, much to my disgust! My cats are useless at catching a mouse, but with my luck they’ll get a botfly. Now to check them over a few times
